BRISTOL AND THE WEST COUNTRY ' S BIGGEST PROPERTY EVENT
2018 AUCTION HIGHLIGHTS An interesting and challenging year leading to even more auction success…
tepping up to the rostrum for our final and largest auction of the year on the same day as the Governor of the Bank of England announced a possible 35% drop in property prices could be regarded as a daunting prospect but not for us… S
Has a clear picture of the market emerged at the end of 2018? What seems clear to us was an insatiable desire for quality instructions which sold for well above their guide prices. Other areas of the market remain somewhat unpredictable. Sensible and accurate guide prices are essential to achieve a successful, if somewhat modest sale, however, there is always the hope of that unpredictable and exciting auction bonus! Looking Forward to 2019
We are quite sure you do not wish to have any further comments from us on the dreaded ‘B’ word, other than to say, that in such times it is clear the tangible benefits of property is still a reassuring and attractive investment. Never has the phrase “An Englishman’s Home is his castle” been truer than in these
tortuously entertaining days provided by our politicians. As one of the oldest democracies in the world, in uncertain times, it is clear that the British still place their confidence in solid bricks and mortar! Reflecting on the regions property market this year a clear picture has emerged. Low interest rates and a general shortage of property led to an ebullient start to the year and whilst this exuberance had been slightly tempered in the second half of the year, the results have remained encouraging. In fact, for quality instructions at all price levels, competition remains fierce, as demonstrated in the auction saleroom where many properties handsomely exceeded their Guide Prices. Over the years it has been interesting to see how the profile of buyers has changed with more and more first time buyers and families now viewing auctions as a mainstream method of purchasing a home.

It is highly likely we will experience some highs and lows in the property market but with a shortage of property, continuing low interest rates and the public’s general desire to “just get on with it” should combine to alleviate any undesirable effects of the uncertainty of the political world. Whatever our predictions, however, Auctions offer a true reflection of the property world and the wider economy and we look forward to leading the way and working with you for another year . The Hollis Morgan charitable year…
FEBRUARY 2019
APRIL 2019
Andrew Morgan MBE reports on a memorable year of raising substantial funds for many Bristol Charities…
2018
“The Hollis Morgan Charity of 2018 was Off The Record . OTR is a mental health social movement by and for young people aged 11-25 living in Bristol and South Gloucestershire. Working with their dedicated team was an absolute pleasure and we were astounded by how many people had benefited from their valuable services. Our annual ‘Opera Picnic’ held in the church and gardens of All Saints Clifton, as usual, gave us a good opportunity to entertain our families, clients and friends and OTR were able to raise an amazing £5,000 on that occasion as guests enjoyed the hot weather, delicious supper and singing all accompanied by the liberal pouring of Fizz and wine! At the end of the year we were able to match this amount to raise the total sum to £10,000 for the year. “One of the highlights of the year was a glittering evening at Badminton school to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of St Peters Hospice. Wonderfully hosted by Joanna Lumley in a magnificent marquee, the evening was a truly emotional experience culminating in an hilarious auction with Andrew and Joanna doing a double act to raise much needed funds. A bottle of champagne signed by Joanna was sold for £2,500 which also included a passionate kiss for the lucky purchaser! This was indeed a celebration to remember! “The Secret Postcard Auction at the RWA provides the audience with a unique evening in which to test their artistic

knowledge when famous artists and local artists work comes anonymously under the hammer. This always seems to take place on a very hot evening and proves the need for the improvement of the building and the installation of air conditioning! It is such a privilege to be involved in this event as Bristol is so fortunate to have such an institution in the heart of the city and it is an evening of frenetic fun. “Many other charities were also supported and we are always pleased to make our auction services available free of charge whenever possible. In 2019 we will be supporting the Bear Wood Project, a unique initiative by Bristol Zoo.”
Our Auctions take place in the iconic All Saints Church on Pembroke Road in Clifton, near to the Downs and the Zoo.
