Southern Province Persevering through the Pandemic

Despite the effect of COVID-19 on the country, inspiring service in the public interest has remained at the forefront of chapters within the Southern Province. Chapters have continued to conduct community service initiatives safely to aptly provide the needs for their communities. Members of the Pompano (FL) Beach Alumni Chapter gave away more than 800 turkeys for their Thanksgiving Turkey Drive to residents of South Florida on November 22nd at the Golden Acres Community Center in partnership with Brother Senator Perry E. Thurston, Jr. (District 33) and other dignitaries along with members of the Florida Atlantic University Chapter, the Omicron Gamma.

during the holidays. Each Angel on the tree represents the wishes and desires of a local child in the Birmingham area. Angel tags are printed for each individual and placed on Salvation Army Angel Trees at area malls and in local companies and organizations. Generous donors select Angels, purchase gifts, and return them to the Angel Tree by the given deadline on each tag. Upon their return, the gifts are taken to a Salvation Army Christmas Distribution Center for pickup by theAngel families. Through theAngel Tree program, families and children have their specific needs and wants met providing hope to these families.

The chapter also hosted Christmas in the City Toy distribution to children of Collier City on December 19th to brighten their holiday season. The brothers of Birmingham (AL) Alumni and Silhouettes supported “Christmas Angel Tree” families in the Birmingham area. This program provides an opportunity to spread joy and cheer to those less fortunate

In 2020, thanks to sponsors and the community, 3,100 children were provided with gifts to open on Christmas morning.

Fort Lauderdale (FL) Alumni Hosts Kappa League Signing Day

“The mission of The Achievement Foundation of Fort Lauderdale, Inc. is to identify and invest in opportunities that engage today’s generation of young people in leading the social, economic and educational transformation of under-served and underrepresented communities throughout the nation and global community.” The 2020 class of the Fort Lauderdale Kappa League saw its largest class of graduating Seniors, 16. Each year the Achievement Foundation gives a scholarship of $2,000 to each graduate. The funds are donated by chapter brothers, the community and of course raised from events held throughout the year. The “Artis “Jack” Hall Golf Klassic” golf tournament is the biggest event held and earns the bulk of the donations. Due to COVID-19 the annual event was forced to be canceled.

2020 Graduating Class of the Fort Lauderdale Kappa League

With resiliency, determination and staying true to the mission, through donations from the community, local businesses and chapter brother donations, the foundation and the Fort Lauderdale Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi came together to give out over $32,000 in scholarships! “It warms my heart, in these most difficult times to still be able to meet the goals of what the fraternity stands for and meeting one of its objectives…To assist in the aims and purposes of colleges and universities”. By being able to send these exceptional young men to college, various HBCU’s, Duke and other amazing universities with scholarships is fulfilling. Not only are we achieving but we are helping this next generation of leaders take their next steps” said Brother Bobby DuBose.

The Fort Lauderdale Kappa League held their annual signing day (with modified COVID-19 protocols). When it came time to award the scholarships the parents were in for a surprise. Aware of the times plus the size of the graduating class, the parents let out a loud roar of cheers and tears at the announcement of their sons receiving the full $2,000 each in scholarship money. “Being a parent with two young men in college, I understand. The parents entrust us to mentor their sons from a young age and to give those scholarships and receive that reception was the ultimate thank you!” said Brother DuBose. “Not only are we achieving but we are helping this next generation of leaders take their next steps”

promotes Reclamation Theme

The Jacksonville (FL) Alumni Chapter promotes Reclamation Theme for 2020-2021 year encouraging brothers to invite 5 brothers to all chapter activities to get plugged in and connected to the chapter. Re-Focus Take this time as this has been and continues to be a year of uncertainties, to focus on what Kappa means to you. For many of us Kappa has impacted our lives socially, professionally, and personally. Let us re-focus on our motto “Achievement in every field of human endeavor” and what better way to represent our motto than to re-focus our efforts towards the construction of the Dr. Charles B. McIntosh Community ACHIEVEMENT Center.

Re-Purpose Each and every brother was created with purpose. Some of our seasoned brothers have fulfilled their purpose and are enjoying the fruits of their labor. Some brothers are currently living in their purpose, and our younger brothers may be walking into their purpose. Let us encourage one another and remember our purpose as members of KAPsi - “Training for Leadership”.

Re-Klaim Life happens...we get busy, married, have and raise children, make a career change and before we know it, we have become more and more distant from the Fraternity. My brothers... if there is work to be done in the Fraternity at any level there is work to be done in the communities that we serve. If you or a brother you know has the desire to do so...we welcome you to be reclaimed (or reclaim a brother) to join in our community efforts, national initiatives, and that good ole Kappa Spirit right here in our Award Winning Jacksonville Alumni Chapter.
