TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY NATIONAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

A MESSAGE FROM TSUNAA PRESIDENT

Dear TSUNAA Family,

I can already feel the Miami heat. The countdown has started. We are days away from the 2022 National Convention. Yes, Miami, Florida here we come. I extend you an invitation to register for the 66th National Convention held June 9-13, 2022. Hosted by the FarEast Region, this year’s convention theme is, “Tiger Renaissance: Celebrating TSU Excellence of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”. This year, the Convention Planning Committee promises to provide you, as well as, all of our participating alumni with an extraordi- nary experience-one that’s enlightening as well as entertaining! The goal of the convention is to provide opportunities for alumni to network and to stay informed of TSU’s developments as well as to foster loyalty, interest and support for Tennessee State University! We also have hopes in bridging the gap by bringing inspiring and informative plenary sessions and luncheons for all age groups to enjoy.

It’s election season. Your vote is an investment. Invest wisely. You deserve a return on your investment.

It remains encouraging to see our chapters continue to offer TSU our efforts. Our passion for students continues to shine bright, as we overcome barriers to raise funds for scholarships. Chapters have continued to support students in the most beautiful and encouraging ways. I am so appreciative and proud of all who participated in the various giving challenges. We must continue to identify innovative ways to increase our membership, increase our alumni giving, and increase our impact within the undergraduate experience. The students need us as they are becoming us. Family, visit TSUNAA at www.TSUALUMNIONLINE.org to update your profile, and/or see the passionate work of our association. Activate your digital ID. Please remain mentally, emotionally, and physically well. Mask on or mask off, wear a smile.

Big Blue Blessings,

Charles H. Galbreath, Jr. 26th National President, TSUNAA

February 10, 2022

Greetings Alums and Supporters, We, the alumni of Tennessee State University, are gearing up for our 66th National Convention which will be held in beautiful, sunny Miami, Florida on June 9 -12, 2022. Tennessee State University is a public and historically black land-grant university in Nashville, Tennessee. Founded in 1912, it is the largest and only state- funded historically black university in Tennessee. It is also a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. One of the highlights of the Convention is the Commemorative Souvenir Booklet. While the booklet provides the Convention schedule of events, it also promotes the Chapters, Alums, Businesses, and Supporters of our beloved Institution. What a great way to congratulate an incoming national board member, share your business card or advertisement notice, honor an outgoing board member or share your annual chapter highlights to Alums and friends across the country. Therefore, we are requesting that each Chapter provide at least three Ads from your area to be included in the booklet. Remember, we are in the electronic age; no distance is too far to solicit business. We all know individuals that would be more than willing to support this effort; all we have to do is ask. Let’s make it happen. Attached is the Ad form which includes instructions for submission and payment. The deadline for submission is April 29, 2022. The Fareast Region is looking forward to seeing you in sunny Miami!

Sincerely, Terri Covington Terri Covington, Chair, Souvenir Journal Committee

TSUNAA has flourished through the pandemic; but also, we’ve met some extenuating circumstances. We are asking for your prayers, patience, and understanding as we conduct the 2022 Solicitation for Consti- tutional changes. Throughout our term, your volunteer executive board members have experienced close losses, endured COVID-19, undergone medical procedures, managed their professional job’s commitments, and continued to serve TSUNAA. We cannot plan/predict/prepare how such life changes and commit- ments will affect our processes and/or service. However, when our processes are hindered it is our respon- sibility to pivot effectively. The submission deadline date, February 1st listed for constitutional changes will now be April 1, 2022 due to extenuating circumstances. This will give an Interim Parliamentarian and com- mittee members adequate time to present the changes to our membership 60 days prior to the convention. Constitution Pursuant to Article X, Section 1, Amendments of the TSUNAA Constitution, “... Constitution may be amended at any regularly scheduled business meeting of the National Convention of The Association pro- vided the proposed amendment was received by the Executive Secretary in time to be sent to the finan- cial members at least thirty (30) days before the meeting date at which it is to be considered and receives three-fourths (3/4) votes of those present who are eligible to vote. “All amendments to the constitution must be submitted by the deadline of April 1st 2022, in time for the committee’s distribution to members 60 days before convention. In submitting proposals, it is important that the following format is used per Robert’s Rules of Order, Newly Revised 11th Edition (RONR):

By-Laws Pursuant to Article X, Section 1, Amendments of the TSUNAA By-Laws, “… By-laws may be amended at any regularly scheduled National business meeting of the Association, provided the proposed amendment was received by the Executive Secretary in time to be sent to financial members at least thirty (30) days before the convention date at which time it is to be considered. The amendment must receive two-third (2/3) votes of those present who are eligible to vote, or the amendment may be presented at one National Con- vention and voted upon at the next National Convention.” All amendments to the bylaws must be submitted by the deadline of April 1st, 2022, in time for the commit- tee’s distribution to members by May 1, 2022. Again, in submitting proposals, it is important that the fol- lowing format is used per RONR:I, [insert your name], move to amend/add...by striking/inserting.
