WASTEWATER SEWAGE TREATMENT: COLLECTOR COLUMNS

“We focus on specialist engineering and creative activities in the pursuit of effective solutions to tough challenges.”

David R Holt. CEO

BGB - WASTEWATER SEWAGE TREATMENT

BGB Engineering Ltd have been designing and manufacturing slip ring collector columns for Half-bridge rotary scrapers and Clarifiers for many years. BGB were one of the first slip ring manufacturers to design and produce a slip ring collector column compliant to WIMES directive 2.01 section 6.12.2 for rotating half bridge scrapers. BGB is now a leading supplier in the development of collector column solutions for this unique industry and work with many of the major wastewater sewage treatment specialist such as: MWH, EPS, Ham Baker Group (A&J Water Treatment), Varis, Ovivo / Jacopa, Anglian Water and many more. The BGB range of SPB (Signal/Power/ Barrel) collector columns are robust, service friendly, enclosed slip rings, designed especially for the tough working environment of a scraper bridge.

POWER & SIGNAL TRANSFER UNITS:

SPB01

The SPB packaged units have been designed to provide an ideal method of transferring power or power and signals (including multiplexing), when using precious metal plated rings for low noise applications. Our standard range of slip rings and brushgear (up to a rating of 35 amps maximum continuous load per way, 690V a/c phase rings and 400V a/c earth/ground rings) can be accommodated, and the aluminium enclosure is fully dust and weatherproofed to I.P. 65, when the mounting flange is correctly sealed.

SPB01 Available from the Online BGB Webshop

Mounting flanges can be designed to suit customers’ requirements. Special units can be offered for applications with higher power.

POWER & SIGNAL TRANSFER UNITS: WIMES DIRECTIVE 2.01 COMPLIANT

SPB03

The SPB03 collector column is compliant to WIMES directive 2.01 section 6.12.2 for rotating half bridge scrapers. The unit uses a fibreglass reinforced polyester enclosure, and is designed to provide an ideal method of transferring power or power and signals (including multiplexing), when using precious metal plated rings for low noise applications. The all-insulated fibreglass reinforced polyester enclosure is light-weight, vandal proof and fully dust and weatherproofed to I.P. 65.

The SPB range all share a very similar specification in terms of conduit entries, torque arms and flanges. Optional extras are available on all versions, these include:

> Silver rings & associated brushes per ring

> Gold rings, AG (silver) brushes

> Duty separation barriers

>Top / Double entry (including bearing)

> Anti-condensation heaters

SPB FULLYWIRED TERMINAL BOX:

Terminal Box - Top and Bottom Entry

The SPB Terminal Box is the latest WIMES compliant product to compliment the highly successful SPB range of collector column / slip ring units. Primarily used in the wastewater sewage treatment industry, the new terminal box minimises installation time and use of exterior electricians.

The Terminal Box can be supplied with: · Load Monitoring Contactor for Bridge Drive Motor - To protect overload and underload currents (coil voltage required) · Manual re-set button · SWA cable glands · Rotor side SWA cable to customer requirement (to run down the bridge) · Incremental Encoder with own DC Power source - BGB standard version is capable of up to 256 pulses per revolution. Other standard ranges are 400, 512, 800 and 1024 (others available on request). · LOR (Loss of Rotation) sensor All subject to customer requirements.

REPAIRS, REFURBISHMENTS AND REPLACEMENTS:

Before....

BGB can repair, refurbish or replace all types of collector columns. The refurbished slip ring will be returned to a similar “as new” condition, even if the collector column is physically damaged. If the unit is beyond repair, BGB can provide brand new slip rings complete with new brush gear (if damaged or functioning incorrectly) to the same spec as originally designed. Replacement brushes and other parts commonly used in repairs, such as micro switch systems, can also be supplied.

After....

BGB can perform the following tasks: · Electrically test for any faults, including flash test up to 15kV and load test to check for any build up of resistance in the slip ring. · Fully clean to remove excess carbon dust build up. · Machine rings back to correct surface finish and address any concentricity issues. · Re-apply anti-tracking varnish to maintain correct electrical ratings. · Strip, clean and rebuild .

COLLECTOR COLUMNS FOR HALF-BRIDGE SCRAPERS & CLARIFIERS:

Collector Columns / Slip Rings:

A BGB collector column / slip rings primary function is for the transfer of power & signal from stationary cables from the axis of rotation to the rotary scraper bridge. The slip ring transfers power to the scraper bridge drive motor and bridge mounted control panels to allow the scraper to travel continuously through 360 o .

The rings are usually phosphor bronze but can be silver, gold or rhodium plated. The number of rings required depends on client specification and are usually in multiples of two. Brushes are used on the rotational side of the unit, with the brush material being copper or silver graphite depending on application.

TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE

BGB Design Office:

BGB use the latest 3-dimensional solid modelling technology to design and create custom slip ring collector columns and housing to customers requirements. The Design Office liaise closely with clients technical departments to ensure units are suitable for application, affordable, easy to install and service friendly.

The SPB range of collector columns are available in a variety of combinations from 1-36 ways (rings) in standard format. More channels can be catered for via bespoke units designed to customers exact specifications. Other additional features such as encoders, terminal boxes and fibre optic rotary joints (FORJs) can also be designed into packaged assemblies.
