Screening for prostate cancer is done with a simple blood test and a physical exam.

CHEMICAL EXPOSURE

THE NATIONAL COMPREHENSIVE CANCER NETWORK (NCCN) RECOMMENDS THAT BLACK MEN AND INDIVIDUALSWITH A FAMILY HISTORY SHOULD BEGIN HAVING THESE CONVERSATIONS WITH THEIR DOCTOR AS EARLY AS AGE 40.

AFTER TESTING

If prostate cancer is suspected as a result of either the blood test or physical exam, a biopsy or further testing may be performed. If prostate cancer is confirmed, additional tests may be done to learn more about the tumor to determine treatment options.

PEER SUPPORT

ZERO Connect is a Facebook-based support group for participants to share stories, ask questions, and connect. Invite- only Facebook groups also exist for Black Men and Caregivers. The Inspire Online Support Community ( inspire.com/groups/ zero-prostate-cancer ) connects patients, families, friends, and caregivers to enhance the quality of life for all those affected by prostate cancer. MENtor is a peer support network at zerocancer.org/mentor . ZERO’s trained, volunteer MENtors have a wealth of insights to share based on their experiences. The ZERO Caregiver Connector Program at zerocancer.org/caregiver-connector matches prostate cancer caregivers with others who have been in similar situations. Us TOO Support Groups: zerocancer.org/get-support/peer- support/us-too-support-groups In-person and virtual support groups are available. Groups are also available through the Black Men’s Prostate Cancer Initiative, a program that provides prostate cancer education resources and support groups for Black men. Other groups include Veterans, Gay Men and their Partners (All LGBTQIA+ welcome), Caregivers, Spanish Language, Deaf Men, and more.
