THE KEY PHILOSOPHY BEHIND OUR SERVICE

s I was peering through the holidays in February, I was surprised to learn that U.S. Figure Skating has its own holiday: National Get Up Day, as part of a campaign to encourage skaters everywhere to be fearless from the risk of falling.

I’m fortunate to say that I’ve overseen hundreds of projects of every size, and that doesn’t come without an occasional oversight or mistake. However, I have a firm philosophy that once I give you a price for a project, that’s all you’ll have to pay. If the lighting equipment is more

expensive than I anticipated, I won’t call you about a price change. If we unexpectedly need an extra tree or more paving material, we’ll cover it. If we made a mistake that’ll take two days to fix, we’ll fix it.

As a business owner, that’s both very inspirational and very relatable! And especially after a year like 2020, we may all need a certain boldness to take 2021 by the horns and live our lives to the fullest within our circumstances — which is hard to do when we feel fear.

THOUGH WE HAVE TO CHARGE FOR OUR SERVICES TO MAKE A LIVING, OUR TOP PRIORITY IS TO DO HIGH QUALITY, HONEST WORK, NOT JUST TO MAKE A PROFIT. SINCERITY IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT TO US.

I believe that correcting my mistakes — getting back up from my falls, so to speak — with grace is not only part of being a good business owner, but also of being a good person. At the end of the day, I want to treat people like I treat members of my family.

I acknowledge that this might seem easy for me to say, as I’ve been very blessed this year. We’ve been able to continue to operate and stay distanced even when other places were shut down. However, I know how easy it is to say to ourselves, “I’ll never be able to get through this.” By “easy,” I don’t mean this is pleasant to admit, but it’s easy to submit to. Maybe it’s hard to get back up while we still feel the wounds of falling down. But why give up our mindset to feeling helpless? Do we ever have a good reason?

I know our projects require a significant money and time investment. But once you’re in our

circle, we want to make you as happy as possible, so we go the extra mile wherever we can. Though we have to charge for our services to make a living, our top priority is to do high quality, honest work, not just to make a profit. Sincerity is incredibly important to us.

This year, it feels more important than ever to find new reasons to get back up from our falls and overcome our bad habits or feelings from the pandemic so we can enjoy what we have. In many ways, this is a big part of my philosophy and what I believe makes BLG Environmental the premium service we are today.

How ‘The Tim Ferriss Show’ Is Inspiring Millions INTERVIEWS YOU’LL HEAR THE MOST IN-DEPTH CELEBRITY

Imagine having a long conversation with your favorite world-class performer — like Jerry Seinfeld — and going in depth about their processes, mindsets, and daily routines that led to their lifelong success. If you want to learn how some of the world’s prolific careers came to be, then you’ll love Tim Ferriss’ podcast, “The Tim Ferriss Show.”

Ferriss is a man with lots of reasons for his acclaim in the business world. In 2007, he became famous for his New York Times bestselling book “The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich.” Both the concept and book were incredibly innovative, suggesting a life plan where you’d work far more efficiently so you could spend less time working, maybe even just four hours a week — a big jump away from the “deferred life plan” (as Ferriss called it), which is retirement after working many hours for years.

Why fill your life with work hours until you retire? What about living life right now?

Even today, the four-hour workweek concept still lives and inspires. It’s a big part of Ferriss’ philosophy and what helps drive the inspirational aspects of his show and blog.

As a puppy, it’s your responsibility to cause top-quality mischief. I should know: I’ve been a working professional for the past year. I know there’s a lot of demand for my expertise on this matter, but I’ve told major news outlets, “No way Jose.” This knowledge is exclusively for my newsletter friends. I know what you’re thinking. If you’re a really good boy like me, why would you risk giving up that title? Why cause mischief and stir the pot? Because you have puppy eyes, obviously ! HOW TO CAUSE MISCHIEF TEDDY’S PAW-SPECTIVE

It’s basically your license to cause trouble. As soon as you get pulled over by the cops — aka, mom and dad — just show them your puppy eyes. They’ll usually let you off with a warning, unless you get really crazy, like eating a whole cake. Man, imagine eating a whole cake ...

Anyway, back to mischief-making. The key to good shenanigans is simple: It gets peoples’ attention. If you’re making

mischief that’s intended to be hidden forever, well, that’s just committing a crime. Or hiding your favorite bone! But those tips are for another day, and both are different from shenanigans! Here’s an example of some mischief-making I love: Our home has a bunch of tiny humans who always take off their shoes when they play outside or kick the ball around — which is a crucial mistake on their part. Their shoes are the perfect size to grab and run away with, which forces both the little and big humans to chase me! It’s awesome. I love hiding them in my classic go-to spots in the bamboo and bushes. But, if I feel really up to no good, I’ll hide one so good in the backyard that it’ll take DAYS until my dad digs it up while gardening. It’s hilarious. I wish I could show you his face!

As much fun as I have, in the end, it’s all out of love. I know my family knows this too. So don’t be afraid to have some fun once in a while! See you next time, friends!

Why Valentine’s Day Is the Ultimate Card Holiday

T his may be the first year in a long time that kids don’t pass out Valentine’s Day cards at school. Going into the new year, the seasonal section of most stores is lined with cards featuring fun characters from superheroes to unicorns. Handing out cards is now a well-loved tradition, but have you ever wondered how Valentine’s Day became one of the biggest card-giving holidays of the year? Like many holiday traditions, the convention of handing out Valentine’s Day cards goes back centuries. During the 1700s, it became fashionable to trade Valentine’s Day cards with a short poem

or verse. The popularity of swapping cards only increased throughout the 1800s. Sometimes, people would go as far as to paint or draw spring- like images on the cards. They were much more elaborate than what we typically see today, though they were still usually very small. But where did those folks get the idea? People of that era were likely inspired by stories that go back even further. There are legends that the originator of this holiday tradition was Saint Valentine himself. One story says that on the night before he was set to be executed, Valentine wrote a small letter to a jailer’s daughter. He ended the note with “Your Valentine.”

It’s unknown whether that story is true, but to 18th century Europeans and Americans, it was inspiring! So inspiring, in fact, that the entire Valentine’s Day industry began to gain traction. A guidebook called “The Young Man’s Valentine” was published in 1797 to help suitors garner the attention of their love interests through the written word. Eventually, books aimed at women were also published, including “The Lady’s Own Valentine Writer,” which served much the same goal. These publications, along with young people writing notes to one another every February, have made Valentine’s Day cards an ingrained tradition, and now people can’t get enough of them!
