IF MONEY WERE NO OBJECT, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
I love planes and aviation. As it turns out, my son Gavin is no different! Just like he draws pictures of his landscaping “crew” and their nursery, he’ll draw pictures of planes. It probably helps that every weekend while working at the tree nursery, Gavin and I sometimes drive near the airport and see planes flying overhead. One time, while near the Orlando Sanford International Airport to grab lunch, we saw a giant plane fly very low above us. My son yelled with joy, “Look at that plane! It’s huge!” He started sharing a ton of ideas for things we’d do together in planes — the places we’d go, the adventures we’d have.
Someone asked me recently if money were no object, what dreams would I make into a reality? While I don’t have a piloting license yet, I can’t help but share in Gavin’s dreams, too. I’d love to fly a small plane with my family or, as a major golf fan, follow an entire PGA Tour across the nation. I keep a bucket list in an Evernote file, and, plane or no plane, following a PGA tour is definitely on it. It’s a pretty awesome experience because you follow the best golf courses during the best weather throughout the year, starting in the West Coast in the winter, then moving toward the East Coast in the summer. There are also new players on the course every week, so you don’t always see people. But how do we really define dreams? As a business owner, I hear that word a lot: dream. The truth is that following a PGA tour with my own private jet isn’t necessarily the “ultimate dream.” It’s certainly what I’d love to do with unlimited money and no responsibilities, but that doesn’t mean it’s the dream that keeps me motivated every single day. When it comes down to it, I’ve realized that the journey is just as important to me as the destination. It’s really my connection with family, faith, and my journey keeping me motivated
to continue moving forward. As an ambitious business owner, people can get caught up in the idea that working more means dreams become easier to attain, but that’s just not always true. Your hobbies and other goals in life have an important part to play in your happiness, too. Whether finding balance in life means giving back to a great cause (such as St. Jude Children’s Hospital, as I’ve talked about before!), spending time with loved ones, enjoying your hobbies, or a healthy blend of it all, it’s good to remember that time will always get away from you. Dreams are wonderful to have — but we can’t forget that to make the most of our dreams, enjoying the present is just as important. Otherwise, our dreams might come true, but it’ll be hard to know when or how to enjoy them. I know I’ve come a long way from my humble beginnings of mowing my neighbors’ lawns, but I think it would’ve been a much rougher journey without people in my life to show me how to enjoy the little moments, too. Don’t hesitate to lean on someone this year.
Happy New Year!

Hiya, newsletter friends! Man, oh man, you don’t even know how good I’ve had it lately. I’ve gotten a new haircut and a new bandanna. (It’s half-chewed, but don’t look at me … It was like that when I got it, right guys?) Everyone in my family is talking about what they want to do better next year, but really, I can’t think of anything I would’ve done better in 2021. I ate, I dug, I conquered. MY NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION TEDDY’S PAW-SPECTIVE
There’s pretty much nothing that I could do differently that’d make
me happier. Although a recent neighborhood event started to make me think differently — the holiday Dog-narok, aka the arrival of new puppies in town.
Now that the holidays are over, everyone’s taking puppies I’ve never seen before out for a walk, and the whole neighborhood smells different. I’ve only been around for a short while, but it feels like the humans are completely unfazed by these new puppies in town. Right when it feels like my life couldn’t have been
any better, my territory borders are constantly unresolved and highly tense, like in North and South Dakota. (I think that’s how it goes — politics are hard for a puppy.)
That’s pretty stressful stuff. But as I’ve been walking around the neighborhood more, I started to notice that these puppies didn’t really mean to intrude. While on our latest walk, I saw a new face across the street mention to her owner about how grateful she was to have found a new home. I thought that was so sweet — I was really confused over who’d tried claiming my favorite fire hydrant; I didn’t realize they were looking for homes, too. I guess these new dogs aren’t so bad. Maybe we’ll get a play date sometime. I’ve started thinking that making my New Year’s resolution to get along with these new puppies might make 2022 better than ever.
(Plus, I’ve never looked better for making new friends. Check out my sweet new threads.)

CAST products are made to withstand any type of outdoor conditions and are practically indestructible! The fixtures will weather naturally into a gorgeous patina.
BLG Environmental Services has designed and installed three distinct landscape projects at our home over the years. The owner is hands-on,
which I sincerely appreciate. He designs the work and delivers as promised. On Project No. 2, BLG installed LED lighting for us which we love! They also installed a new sprinkler system for us (on Project No. 1) and they check the system anytime they come to our home. Robert stands behind all his work and is extremely dependable. I would recommend BLG to anyone. Honest, dependable, and excellent work.” – Julia Miller
One Long-Lasting Design
There are plenty of manufacturers that offer decorative lighting attachments, but they tend to break easily and won’t last as long. CAST’s construction and design blends in naturally into any landscape. By keeping the design simple, it creates lights that will continue to perform for decades. The Good News Hear From Our Clients Take a Break! Why Do Your Ears Pop on Flights?
4
When it comes to flying on an airplane, you can avoid cramped legs by upgrading to first class or catch a view by picking the window seat. However, there’s no getting around your ears popping during takeoff and landing. Believe it or not, there is a scientific explanation behind this common annoyance. As you read this, you’re likely not on an airplane, and the air pressure on either side of your eardrums is equal. Air is currently passing right on through your eustachian tube, a narrow passage that leads from your middle ear cavity to your pharynx and allows for pressure to be equalized on each side of your eardrums. When you’re in flight on an airplane, air pressure is not equal. During both ascent and descent, your eardrums stretch to try to adapt to the changes. In order to equalize the pressure, your eustachian tube needs to open and close. When it does, your ears pop! Usually, the ear popping is irritating but nothing more. However, in rare cases, the pressure can lead to ear pain and even loss in hearing, especially if your ears don’t pop. In this case, you may need to make an effort to get your eustachian tube to open by yawning, talking, or swallowing. Sucking on a piece of candy, swallowing some water, or chewing gum may also help! One of the best AIRPLANE EARS THE SCIENCE BEHIND YOUR EARS POPPING ON FLIGHTS
things you can do is make sure you are not sleeping as the airplane takes off or lands because your eustachian tube isn’t able to open and close normally. If you commonly struggle with congestion or sore ears on flights, taking a nasal decongestant before you board may ensure that your eustachian tube is not blocked. If your hearing and ears do not return to normal shortly after the flight, be sure to schedule an appointment to see your health care professional as soon as possible.
