England ski resorts offer $17 lift tickets on St. Patrick’s Day. That year, there was plenty of snow, which made for a great day on the slopes. If you think about it, your personal history is happening all around you. When the Patriots won the Super Bowl last year, I again took my daughters out of school, and we went to the victory rally. They had really paid attention during the Patriots’ historic Super Bowl comeback and felt they were a part of it. Who knows how many memories like that we will have? They were easily able to make up the work from those two missed days, but the memories will stay with them. Whenever we are near the spot where we stood for the Rolling Rally, we talk about how packed and festive it was that day. It wasn’t just me who was impressed with this speech. A friend of mine who was also at the event was so moved that he hired a reporter to interview his grandfather. It was videotaped, so his life story will be preserved forever. How cool will it be for future generations to hear his story directly from him? I hope that you’re able to create many memorable moments this March and for the many months ahead. Whether cheering on your favorite team (or a Cinderella story) during college basketball’s March Madness or having a pint for St. Paddy’s Day, enjoy the little things in life, and just have fun while we all wait for warmer weather. about history! I would have remembered hearing about that. Since that time, I started asking more questions of my own family. Just within the past month, I have learned that my father had two uncles who died during historic events. One was killed at the invasion of Pearl Harbor, and another was killed at the Battle of Dunkirk during World War II. These are interesting conversations. I never knew my family was a part of such history. I would never have asked the questions that prompted this information without hearing McCullough’s speech. Don’t just tell the good stuff, either. McCullough also said that everyone has quirky people in their family. Don’t hide them. Tell your family about them. They often make for colorful stories and can also provide important real-life lessons. I’m not sure if this is what McCullough had in mind, but shortly after hearing his speech, I pulled my daughters out of school for a weekday road trip to Bretton Woods Ski Resort in New Hampshire on March 17. Two years ago around St. Patrick’s Day, I was at a dinner event where the keynote speaker was author and historian David McCullough. He has written many books you’ve probably heard of and perhaps read. He has also won two Pulitzer Prizes, two National Book Awards, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award. The seven-part HBO miniseries on John Adams, produced by Tom Hanks, was based on his book. It is not often that a speech touches me, but this one did. Being a renowned historian, he told us how he has noticed that a lot of people’s stories don’t get shared with their family members. He said, “You are your history.” You need to share your experiences and your stories with the next generation. No one will be here forever. Don’t let your part of your family history die with you. Too often, older folks presume that the younger generation knows what they know, and that’s not the case. As he spoke, I remembered one time when my father casually mentioned that his aunt was a Titanic survivor who lived into her 80s. Talk

Heart Attack Symptoms in Women

SHORTNESS OF BREATH Sometimes your body will present symptoms well before an attack. For instance, you may experience shortness of breath during normal activities. If you notice this symptom, your doctor may run blood pressure, cholesterol, and FEELING FAINT, LIGHTHEADED, OR DIZZY Feeling like you’re going to faint or actually fainting are both warning signs of a heart attack or other cardiac issue. This is especially worrying if it happens while exercising. SUDDEN SWEATING Sudden sweating can easily be confused with night sweats or hot flashes. However, sweating that indicates a heart attack is particularly extreme, doesn’t go away, or can make it difficult to sleep.

NAUSEA OR VOMITING Often, women who experience nausea or vomiting think they have food poisoning, gastrointestinal issues, or a bug. However, these are common heart attack symptoms and should be taken very seriously. UNUSUAL FATIGUE New, unexplained fatigue may be a warning sign of a heart attack. However, fatigue can also be a symptom of many other issues, including anemia, depression, thyroid conditions, and even cancer. So even if it’s not a heart attack, it’s still important check in with your doctor. Research suggests that women often don’t recognize heart attack symptoms simply because they don’t know what they are experiencing. The best thing a woman can do is make herself aware of heart attack symptoms and get checked out immediately if there is a concern.

When people think of heart attack symptoms, they often think of stabbing chest pain. However, that’s not always how symptoms manifest, particularly in women. The following are serious symptoms that can indicate a looming heart attack. If any of these symptoms are present, consider seeking medical attention. CHEST DISCOMFORT The most common symptom is chest discomfort, including pain, tightness, squeezing, or pressure. In women, chest discomfort is more likely to feel like pressure or tightness. RADIATING PAIN Pain isn’t necessarily restricted to the center of the chest. It may be felt at the sides or even in the upper abdomen or back. It can also radiate into your shoulders, jaw, neck, or arms. Remember, anything above the waist could be related to the heart.

Paleo Asparagus Soup

Ingredients

2 tablespoons fresh tarragon, chopped

2 tablespoons butter, ghee, or coconut oil

1/2 cup coconut milk 1 teaspoon lemon zest

1.5 ounces pancetta, diced

1 onion, diced

1/4 teaspoon salt

12 ounces asparagus, cut into small pieces

Pepper to taste

2 cups chicken stock

1 teaspoon fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

5. Add the parsley, tarragon, coconut milk, lemon zest, salt, and pepper. 6. Using an immersion blender or working in batches and transferring to a blender, puree the soup. 7. Return the soup to the pot and warm thoroughly. Season with more salt and pepper if desired. Garnish with tarragon or parsley.

1. In a large pot, melt the butter, ghee, or oil. 2. Add the onion and pancetta and cook, stirring occasionally until the onion is translucent, about 6–8 minutes. 3. Add the asparagus and stir for 1 minute. 4. Add chicken stock and cover. Simmer on low for 10 minutes or until the asparagus is tender.

Dine Out Boston is here again! Formerly known as “Boston’s Restaurant Week,” it's one of two times a year that you can indulge in great food for amazing prices. Coming back for their 17th year, Dine Out Boston provides customers a chance to sample foods that they might normally not have a chance to try. It also helps the restaurants build up more of a reputation, so it’s a win-win situation! Restaurant Week was originally designed to bring out diners during the traditionally very slow weeks in August. The March weeks were added to aid the slow period after comfort food season ends and before the exterior folding doors open and outdoor seating appears. With more than 100 restaurants taking part, you don't want to miss this chance. The chefs from each restaurant will prepare a fixed-price menu for the event. The event offers three different price ranges, and the restaurant must choose one of these options before the chef begins to prep a menu for it. Prices differ depending on whether you go for lunch or dinner and which restaurant you pick. By simply participating in the first place, Dine Out Boston helps restaurants gain more acclaim. People who don’t usually come to downtown Boston on a regular basis will head to the heart of the city in order to take part in the event. You can give a try to a restaurant that would typically be out of your price range or take a chance on a place for the first time There are even many old favorites on the list.

Just because it is called Dine Out Boston does not mean it is limited to downtown. Dining spots from Cambridge as well as the suburbs to the north, west, and south of the city participate. Check one out near you. One important factor to remember is that you’ll still need to reserve a spot for the restaurant (or restaurants) you plan on visiting. The event used to run for only one week, but due to popular demand, it was extended an extra week. Be sure to grab the chance while you can! If you find that you aren’t able to go in March, there will be another Dine Out Boston fortnight this summer. There are also chances to win gift certificates to restaurants. Each participating restaurant donates a $100 gift certificate to Dine Out Boston. All of the gift certificates are then auctioned off at DOBauction.com, and the proceeds are given to a local charity. Since 2012, nearly $375,000 has been raised for local charities. Another way to win a $100 gift certificate is to enter the Dine Out Boston Photo Contest on Instagram. Simply take a picture of your food (don’t act like you’ve never done it), tag it, and share it. If your post is selected, you win!

Dine Out Boston is happening March 18–23 and 25–30. It's a great way to experience dining with friends or family. Head out and enjoy some great food!
