Sharing Some Amazing Summer Vacation Memories THE TIME FOR SUMMER ADVENTURE IS HERE

Margenia “Growing up as the youngest of six kids with 20 years between me and my oldest brother, my parents were older than my friends’ parents. One memory that stands out for me is the summer my parents took me to Dollywood. My dad gave in and rode the roller coasters with me, and that day, I realized age is just a number. We had a blast and he was such a good sport letting me drag him from ride to ride.” Katie “I love the beach! My best memories as a child were our yearly beach trips! Every year, my whole family, including aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents, would all go to Myrtle Beach for a week. We loved to go play mini golf and ride the rides at the Pavilion. Now, I love to carry on that tradition with my own family. We go to the beach every chance we get. Our new favorite place is Oak Island. I look forward to spending time with all of our family every year relaxing on the beach.” What are some of your favorite summer vacation memories? The Caring Modern Dentistry Team and I wish you a very happy, fun, relaxing, and exciting summer! Let us know what you have planned!

So, we would go to Jones Beach Club. We would borrow bikes from my aunt and ride to a local area every day to feed the swans (my grandma would start saving her old bread a few weeks before we came so we would have plenty to feed the swans). Since our family went every year, my brother and I made friends with some of the neighborhood kids, who were always fun to see. I made tons of memories which I now hold dear to my heart.” Kelsi “My parents owned a place at Belews Lake in North Carolina for many years, and some of my best summer memories were going to the lake and spending time with family and friends. “This summer I am looking forward to enjoying time by the pool with my family and going to the beach for vacation. As my girls are getting older, I cherish the memories we are making.” Tabitha “This year and for many to come, I am looking forward to making memories with my six grandkids. I have a 6-year- old, 3-year-old identical twins, and one less than a year. These four are 100% boys! Mud, dirt, worms, wrestling … you name it! Then I have the two girls, ages 12 and 9 — the fun preteen years! So many personalities and different stages in their lives. They will keep me on my toes this summer!”

As the temperatures warm up and we cruise right into summer, we all have summer vacations on our mind — after all, summer is the perfect time to head out and explore! Whether vacation means having nothing to do and all day to do it while relaxing on a beach somewhere, spending time with family and friends, or visiting and touring some of the greatest cities and destinations, it’s always a great time! As the office buzzes with great summertime vibes, the Caring Modern Dentistry team has shared a few of their favorite summer vacation memories. Not only is it fun to read about other experiences, but you may even get some great ideas for future trips! Let’s take a look! Kelly “My favorite vacation we’ve taken as a family was our trip to St. Augustine, Florida, last spring. I love history, and with St. Augustine being the oldest city in America, it was right up my alley. We enjoyed a trolley tour, drank from the fountain of youth, played on the beach, and even went to an alligator farm. We made lots of fun memories and will definitely go back!” Shelley “Since my mama is from Long Island, New York, we always spent our summer vacation at my grandma’s in NY. She only lived about 2 miles from the beach.

NO CAFFEINE NEEDED How to Beat Your Afternoon Slump

We all know the feeling: Sometime after lunch, you become sluggish, spacy, and unproductive. Many of us instinctively turn to caffeine to power through the rest of the day, but that can cause another crash, not to mention sleep problems. But don’t worry — you aren’t doomed to an aimless afternoon. We’ve compiled expert tips to perk up and carry on with your busy day. Plan your work. All of our bodies have internal rhythms, and by now, you probably know yours. Typically, people peak mid-morning or in the late afternoon. But whenever your productive heights are, plan around them. Complete the detailed, creative, or difficult work during the times when your energy is at its best, and save your “busy work” or repetitive tasks for the lulls when you feel less motivated. You’ll feel better and get more done. Consume healthy foods and lots of water. Maybe you don’t have complete control of your schedule. That’s where a healthy snack comes in. We tend to crash in the afternoon when our blood sugar drops, usually due to consuming carbohydrates. Eating vegetables, fruit, and protein or fiber-rich foods will help pick up your energy without incurring a future dip. While you’re snacking, drink

some water. A 2018 study out of Yale found that even mild dehydration can negatively affect our brains’ ability to function, so don’t let your water bottle sit untouched. Get up and move. You’re not going to get over that slump by sitting in your chair. If you want to beat back fatigue, go for a walk, climb some stairs, stretch, or do some jumping jacks. Researchers have proven that exercise wakes up both your body and your mind. In fact, science says it will do a better job of rousing you than caffeine will. Best of all, it will help, not hurt, your ability to sleep at night. Finally, set yourself up for success by going to bed at a reasonable hour and getting your necessary 7–9 hours of sleep. Our attention ebbs and flows naturally, so none of us can be our best 100% of the time. But along with these other tips, staying well-rested can help you pick up the pace.

OUR PATIENTS SAY IT BEST!

“I made an appointment for a toothache. They were able to get me in the same day. The staff was wonderful, very friendly, easy to talk to, and very informative. The office and rooms were very clean! The dentist was easy going, friendly, and took time to go over my options. I am terrified of the dentist, and they eased my fears. I left there assured I had made a wise decision choosing this office. I was very impressed and will be going there for all my dental needs.”

Explore the Benefits of Invisalign — Available in Our Office! Not Your Traditional Braces According to the American Dental Association, cosmetic dentistry and having straighter teeth yield great benefits for your oral, physical, and mental health. Straighter teeth reduces your risk of developing gum irritation or disease, help to ensure that your teeth are easier to clean, reduce your risk of tooth injury, can decrease headaches and neck pain, boost your self-esteem, and prevent wear and tear on your teeth. At Caring Modern Dentistry, our cosmetic dentistry services deliver both quick and stunning results. Invisalign, a modern and more appealing approach to traditional braces, corrects overbites, underbites, crossbites, crooked teeth, misaligned teeth, and other dental complications. Rather than having a mouth full of metal braces, where the tiny pieces are attached to each individual tooth and connected with a metal wire, Invisalign is a simple set of clear plastic aligners, similar to a retainer. Invisalign trays are more attractive and subtle, plus much easier to clean. They are just as effective at straightening and aligning teeth.

We work closely with every patient, and if Invisalign is right for you, we use teeth impressions, X-rays, and photos to create a custom set of Invisalign aligners, which you will wear for a predetermined length of time, as every person requires a different treatment regimen depending on their teeth. If you are seeking a change or would like to improve the condition of your teeth, Invisalign may be right for you! Give us a call today to set up a consultation to see what Invisalign can do for you!

3 Ways to Protect Your Skin From the Sun

Always check: Did you apply (and reapply) sunscreen? Apply sunscreen, and then reapply after going in the water or a few hours later. According to the National Cancer Institute, only about 30% of women and less than 15% of men regularly apply sunscreen, which leaves them vulnerable to the sun’s harmful UV rays. The National Cancer Institute recommends using an SPF of at least 15 and reminds everyone to remember their feet if they are exposed! Seek out the shade. No matter the activity, try to limit your exposure to the sun — you’ll be cooler, too! Look for trees, pavilions, and shelters. When these options

aren’t available, create your own shade by wearing a hat and toting along an umbrella. Wear protective clothing. Whenever possible, wear long-sleeved shirts and pants. UV protective clothing is best for maximum protection. Don’t forget about your eyes — UV sunglasses are important for your eyes and the delicate skin around them. Just because sunglasses appear dark does not mean they protect against UV rays! This summer, be sure to have fun but don’t forget to protect your skin from sunburns, possible skin cancer, and early signs of aging due to damage from sun exposure! Lather up!

It’s time for fun in the sun! Whether you’re heading out to the beach or lake, catching a ballgame, hosting a barbecue, or taking a boat tour, it’s important to protect your skin to avoid sun damage. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, 1 in 5 Americans develops skin cancer by the time they are 70 years old, and every hour, two people die of skin cancer nationally. The risk of skin cancer is severe — it’s not just one sunburn. Having five or more sunburns in your lifetime can double your risk of developing skin cancer. Here are some surefire ways to avoid a pesky, painful, and potentially harmful sunburn.
