GETTING ON TRACKWITH PHYSICAL THERAPY

Physical therapy treatments are catered toward your needs and goals! Physical therapy is generally comprised of three important phases: pain relief, strengthening, and functional integration. Some people are apprehensive toward physical therapy because they believe it will hurt them; however, the opposite is usually true. Physical therapy is aimed at pain relief and strengthening. This is achieved through several treatment services, such as ice and heat therapies, stretching, bracing, and ultrasound. An active lifestyle is also dependent upon movement. Our physical therapists will cater to your treatment plan around specific movements designed to increase your strength, flexibility, balance, and overall mobility. Your physical therapist will assist you with many of these exercises, but will also provide some simple ones that can be done at home. The end goal of physical therapy is living the life you want, free from painful limitations. That can only happen when you apply the concepts you learn from your treatments to the outside world. Our physical therapists are as dedicated as you are, and will encourage you to achieve all the goals you set forth in the beginning.

(continued from outside) The purpose of physical therapy remains the same, no matter what you are seeking its services for. Perhaps you are still suffering from the lingering pain of an injury? Perhaps you are recovering from surgery and trying to get your range of motion back? Perhaps your joints simply aren’t what they used to be, and you are looking for relief? Whatever the case may be, physical therapists are dedicated to relieving your pain and getting you back to your peak level of physical health. A physical therapist is a movement specialist, educated in analyzing mobility issues with walking, running, jumping, bending, stretching, and almost every other form of physical activity. Our physical therapists can pinpoint problem areas and create a customized treatment plan aimed at improving those areas. Through in-office sessions and at-home exercises, patients strengthen their muscles and joints, improve their balance, build endurance, and experience pain relief, all without the unwanted harmful risks of drugs or surgery.

YOU DO NOT NEED A DOCTOR’S PRESCRIPTION TO SEEK PHYSICAL THERAPY. IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA YOU HAVE DIRECT ACCESS TO PHYSICAL THERAPY.

ASPIRE TOWARD A HAPPIER & HEALTHIER LIFE TODAY

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle takes work, but once you get into the groove of it, it becomes much easier. For example, eating nutritious foods is one of the easiest ways to improve your health (although we know those sweets are hard to kick.) Physical activity is the hardest aspect to get in the habit of doing, especially if you are being held back by chronic pain. Some people try to mask their symptoms with anti-inflammatory or pain- relieving medications, while others unfortunately give up on the idea of being active altogether. Luckily, there is an alternative option: physical therapy. With the help of a physical therapist, it is possible to reclaim your pain-free, healthy lifestyle, and get back to doing the activities you love. Everyone has different needs based on the conditions of their bodies. There is no cookie-cutter approach to health and wellness, as one treatment plan may not work the same for one person as it would for another. Your physical therapist will work closely with you to evaluate your mobility, balance, range of motion, and severity of pain. Your physical goals will also be taken into account when creating your treatment plan, as well as any health risks that may be holding you back. At your initial evaluation, you may be asked to perform basic movements, such as sitting down, standing up, walking, lifting, stretching, or other motions. Once your physical therapist has a clear picture of what you need, he or she will begin constructing a treatment plan to help relieve your pain and achieve your goals. In the end, an active lifestyle is more than possible, even if you struggle with chronic pain. If you are looking to improve your health, strength,

and physical activity, look no further – Centra Rehabilitation is here to help. Schedule a consultation with one of our physical therapists today and get started on your journey toward better health and wellness!

An insurance deductible is the amount of money that you must pay before your insurance company pays for your medical services. If your deductible is met, your Physical Therapy may not cost you anything. Patients with family plans or those who have had major surgeries or have a chronic illness are especially likely to have a $0 balance remaining on their out- of-pocket expenses. This means that the cost of physical therapy could be minimal or completely covered by the patient’s insurance plan. If you are close to or have met your insurance deductible for the year, then now is the time to come in for Physical Therapy! Let us help you get a head start for 2021. Call us today to schedule an appointment with one of our physical therapists. We’ll guide you to affordable treatments that will place you one step closer to pain relief. HAVE YOU MET YOUR DEDUCTIBLE - NOW’S THE TIME TO COME FOR THERAPY

5 Ways to Stay Motivated During Your Treatment & Beyond For many people, deciding to take the route of physical therapy is a very big step. Whether your doctor has recommended it after surgery, or you’re deciding to get help for an injury or chronic pain, physical therapy can do wonders for your body -- if you stay motivated and dedicated to your treatment program!

Centra Rehabilitation is proud to offer a high level of service to all of our patients, nomatter what pain condition theymay be dealing with. We know it’s no easy task to stay motivated when you’re in pain, so we put together a list of five things we recommend you do to keep yourself engaged and dedicated to your healing journey! 1. Make a list of things you’ll be able to do without pain. Chances are, if you’re in physical therapy, it’s because you’re struggling to do things you love doing without experiencing pain. If you’re feeling discouraged during physical therapy, set goals for yourself by making a list of all the activities you’ll be able to do once you’ve advanced in your treatment. 2. Track your progress. Keeping a physical therapy progress journal can be a great way to track your progress over time. Try writing down your pain symptoms at the beginning of treatment, and track the exercises and stretches you do every day. You’ll be surprised at how far you’ve come! 3. Motivate yourself throughmusic. People listen tomusic when they work out to keep their energy levels high. Sometimes when we listen to certain kinds of music that put us in a good mood, we can accomplish more than we think. Creating a playlist to listen to specifically for your physical therapy exercise routine can give you something more to look forward to when it’s time to start stretching those muscles. 4. Find a therapy partner. Similar to the way that working out at the gym can keep you focused and excited, having a physical therapy partner can increase your motivation levels.

5. Connect with your physical therapist. At Centra Rehabilitation, we want to learn more about you than just what your pain symptoms are, and we want you to feel comfortable with us! The more connected you feel to the therapists involved in your recovery, the more motivated you’ll be to reach the physical goals they’re helping you to set for yourself. It’s time to get motivated, and stay that way! After each appointment, our goal is to always have you feeling better than you did when you arrived. Our therapists will assess your physical health and create a unique treatment plan to help you get back on your feet. If you ever become discouraged, know that we’re behind you every step of the way!

4 THINGS TO DO THIS HOLIDAY SEASON TO PREP FOR 2021

It’s that special time of year where we’re all scrambling to tie up loose ends from 2020. The holidays are coming, and that means 2021 is on its way as well. If you’re anything like me, you’re trying to make sure you have as strong of an end to this year as possible. The unfortunate truth is that this year, Christmas and the holidays are going to be very, very different from what we’re all used to. Those of us who usually have specific traditions and plans with our families may find that our plans have to be drastically altered in order to accommodate for the many changes we’ve experienced. Even though the holidays this year are bound to be out of the ordinary, there are still a handful of things you can make sure you and your family are doing to maintain your health and safety! Set yourself up for a strong start to the new year… 1. Watch your eating habits. Holiday gatherings are chock full of food, food, and more food. It can be hard to limit yourself when it comes to sweets, snacks, pies, as well as second helpings of whatever your granny puts together for dinner. Be sure to keep up with your daily medications if you’re on any as well; it can be difficult during the hustle and bustle of the holidays to stay on schedule and remember to take them. The same goes for excess drinking; it can be easy to get carried away with alcoholic beverages during the holidays. Make sure you’re consuming plenty of water to stay hydrated! 2. Get a balance screening done at Centra Rehabilitation. No one wants to be the person falling off of the eight foot ladder during the holidays. If you’re in charge of hanging up decorations and lights this year, a balance screening may be a good choice for you! This is a preventive measure that can save you a whole lot of pain and money. Having your balance checked can prevent you from a possible injury, and give you peace of mind as you get into the holiday spirit. Our experienced physical therapists at Centra Rehabilitation can address any concerns you may have regarding your balance, or dizziness you’re experiencing. 3. Monitor your mental health. Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.) and depression affects many individuals during the holidays. For some, this time of year is unenjoyable because of loneliness. Many people may associate the holidays with the loss of a family member or friend, and therefore experience a decrease in their mental health. It’s important not to isolate yourself when you’re feeling this way. Alone time is good for the soul, but if you’re feeling withdrawn, sad, depressed, angry, or any other combination of emotions as the holidays get closer, it may be a sign to speak with a counselor to have your mental health assessed. 4. End the year on a good note by getting your physical health in order! This goes hand in hand with using up your insurance benefits

before the end of the year. There is no better time than now to make those appointments and start treatment if you’re in need of it. You want to make sure you’re starting 2021 off on the best foot possible, and you can’t do that if you’re still suffering from 2020’s chronic pain. If you’ve suffered from an injury this year or are feeling pain in certain areas of your body, having an assessment done at Centra Rehabilitation could be the first step you take towards a successful new year. Our therapists will complete a thorough evaluation of your condition to determine what the underlying cause of your pain is, and create a treatment plan to address the problem head on. Call our clinic today. Contact Centra Rehabilitation to learn more about the benefits of physical therapy, and how you can take control of your health. This year has been difficult and uncertain for many of us, however, there’s no better time than the present to seek help and become more active for the new year.
