WHY I LOVE WHAT I DO Smal l-Town Shop, Quick Professional Service
to produce andmanufacture. I also recognized that a faster turnaround time and individual attention would provide great value tomy customers. I enjoy every part of my job—well, almost! I like to work, and I love what I do. Being there for people and helping themwith their projects gets me going in the morning. There is nothing more satisfying then burying in and tackling a job head-on with a customer. Getting out and fulfilling contractors’ needs is my absolute favorite. I love the clients I work with. They are wonderful people with an incredible sense for what they do. It’s extremely gratifying to knowwe can help them with that custompiece of trim they were looking for or to help find any solution to their roofing or pole- building project. I am literally putting a roof over someone’s head, and in turn, putting one over my family’s head. A big part of why I do what I do is my incredible family andmy four kids. I love takingmy three boys out and teaching them to fish. We have a perfect spot right outside our house where we can fish all day and night. I’mnot able to get out as much these days with business picking up, but when I do, there’s no better reward for hard work.
When I first started in the metal industry almost 15 years ago, I had no idea I’d be runningmy own roll forming and trim shop. Now that I do, I can’t imagine doing anything else. I started this business because I believe I have a product that this area of Michigan desperately needs. When the car industry crashed, buildings in this area were hit hard. Many roofs went unattended for years, causingmajor complications for business owners and contractors. I saw a great need for metal roofing because of its value to homeowners. I knew frommy time working in the industry that metal is better than traditional shingles. It’s better because it lasts longer, keeps your structure cooler in the summer, and is fire resistant. We all know it doesn’t get much better than that! With this great value, I expected there to be an abundance of options for contractors all over the area, but there wasn’t. The only real choices around were the big-box stores, which often took weeks to get contractors their items. It was obvious tome that there was a huge need for someone who could sell and produce roofing and metal trimproducts, so I startedmy own shop. I knewwhat took the bigger resale stores weeks to order and get in would only take me a matter of days

Third Prize
Second Prize
Speaking of rewards, we were incredibly excited to give away our prizes for 2017’s top three clients. For those who don’t know, every year we have an awards dinner and prizes for whomever does the most business with us. The prizes vary each year, but last year’s were especially awesome. First place was won by Miller Bro’s Roofing, second by Dutch Brothers Construction, and third by Basic Construction. Everyone who received a gift loved it, and we were thrilled to provide this for our top customers. Our clients have been amazing to work with, and they showcase our product better than anyone. They match our values of hard work and integrity, and we love working with them as often as we can. This year promises to have gifts just as great. If you want to be in the top three so you can win great prizes, you’ve got a big task ahead of you. The good news is Michigan always needs metal roofs, and we are here to provide them.

MAKE YOUR MEETINGS MATTER Tips to Get the Most out of Your Time
ALLOW EXCEPTIONS There’s no surer way to make an attendee anxious than pulling them away from an important task. Nobody should skip out on a meeting simply because they don’t want to go. If, however, their time could be more wisely spent, you shouldn’t force them to attend. Prioritize who needs to be at the meeting and whose time could be better used elsewhere. START WITH BIG IDEAS A meeting should be a forum for hashing out concerns and tackling big-picture concepts. If you’re listing off a slew of granular changes, those aren’t the ingredients for a productive meeting. Information like that can be disseminated in other forms. As you discuss a larger concern, details relating to it will arise during your discussion. Ask yourself if the meeting has a larger topic that merits discussion. ENGAGE YOUR PARTICIPANTS A meeting should be just that. If you’re not expecting collaboration, don’t call it a meeting. Tell your staff you’re giving a presentation and they’ll come ready to take notes. But if you want to actually have a meeting, every participant should come ready and willing to engage with the ideas on the table. Central Michigan Roofing, we usually have your product ready for pickup in 24–48 hours. We know that you wait as long as possible to order metal roofing because of how measurements might change during the building process. We do all of our work locally in-shop or a delivery on- site so you can have exactly what you require for your project when you need it. Whether you need metal, trims, accessories, door tracking, underlayments, single- bubble insulation, or roofing components, we have it all. Also, we now have all gutter components, gutter coil, and a lot more! No matter how big or small your project, our service is here for you. Metal is by far the best material for roofing in Michigan. In summertime, they make buildings cooler by reflecting light; meanwhile, during winter, they shed snow easily. Skip the hassle of slow turnaround times from the big-box stores and let Central Michigan Roofing be the go- to place for all your roofing needs. Stop by our shop or give us a call today.
Ask yourself, “What are the biggest time wasters in my office?” If your workplace is like most, it’s a safe guess that social media and meetings are on your list. Maybe there’s a way you can eliminate social media from your office or, at least, curtail its use. However, meetings are an essential part of effective workplace communication. The question, then, isn’t how to get rid of meetings, but rather how to make themmore efficient. With that in mind, here are a few tips for getting the most out of your meetings. HAVE A GAME PLAN If you don’t have a reason for a meeting, don’t have a meeting. Weekly meetings can be a great way to catch your staff up on the latest news and issues at the office, but there’s no need to make them the same length of time every week. You should never feel like you need to fill a certain number of minutes. Instead, get to the heart of what you’re talking about, allow the staff to ask questions, and then get back to work.
24–48 HOUR TURNAROUND TIME
A Central Michigan Roofing Standard
Odds are, if you’ve ever ordered metal roofing supplies, you’ve come across some painful turnaround times. We’ve had plenty of customers come into our shop looking for answers after another resale store left them empty-handed. Many big-box stores don’t do their work in-house, nor do they have the materials on hand. Almost all of their metal is ordered from elsewhere, and this can leave customers waiting two, three, or even four weeks to get their custom work finished. A delay in delivery could bring your entire project to a halt. You don’t want your project to slow down, and neither do we. That’s why, when you walk in the door of

WHY METAL ROOFING IS THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR YOU Longevity, Uti l ity, and Value
which will keep your structure as cool as a spring day. In the winter, metal roofs shed snow easier than other materials, which prevents many complications that shingle roofs encounter during the season.
Making the decision to put a new roof on your home is a major investment. When many people think of starting this process, they gravitate toward using shingles as their roofing material because they believe it to be the most cost-effective and easiest option. While this is a common thought, it’s actually not entirely true. Shingles may be the cheapest, but they definitely aren’t the most cost-effective and best way to go. Those positive qualities belong to metal, and here are three reasons why. years before they start to wear to the point of needing to be replaced. During this life-span, they often require replacement pieces and consistent changing. Metal roofs, on the other hand, are more durable and rarely need any updating after installation. A metal roof can last 50-plus years, which means the second it’s installed, your roof is set for a lifetime. UTILITY Metal roofs have much more practical applications than other roofing materials. For many shelters that don’t have air conditioning, metal roofing provides an excellent option to help keep cool in the summer. The properties of metal naturally reflect UV radiation and the heat of the sun, LONGEVITY Traditional shingles usually have a shelf life of about 15–20
VALUE Metal roofs are more desirable and
increase property value due to the high- end finishes and curb appeal they provide. Whether it’s for resale purposes or you’re just looking to maintain the value of your home, a metal roof immediately adds equity. The lack of maintenance required, durability, curb appeal, and utility savings make metal a superior choice for anyone looking to replace their roof. Because it’s a generational purchase, we want to make sure you get the best service and turnaround times possible. Contact us today and let us help with your trims or metal on your roofing or pole barn project. We’ll start ironing out your new roofing project today.

What Happened to February?
WHY IS FEBRUARY SO SHORT? And Why Is There No Ful l Moon This Month?
both January and February were missing. This is because the Romans, as an agricultural society, didn’t feel the need to track winter months. The days and weeks between December and the spring equinox were just, well, nothing. Eventually, the calendar was updated to more accurately reflect the lunar cycle. January and February were added, and the year was extended to 355 days. At the time, people believed that even numbers were unlucky, and the Roman ruler of that era, King Pompilius, was hesitant to create any more even- numbered months. But, to get everything to add up to 355, he had to leave one month stuck with unlucky number 28. And the rest is history. Over the centuries, days were added here and there, the leap year was eventually instituted by Julius Caesar, and we came to the 365-day calendar we know today. But this year, as we let Valentine’s Day pass in the dark, think back to the legacy of King Pompilius and his one unlucky month.
If you were planning a romantic, moonlit stroll sometime this month, you’d better reschedule for March. But, on the bright side, if you’re terrified of werewolves, you can rest easy for the entire month of February. Every 20 years or so, because of its 28-day length, February lands between the zeniths of the lunar cycle. February passes without a full moon, while January and March get to double up. Astronomers call this event a “black moon,” and it’s happening this year for the first time since 1999. There’s a certain irony that comes with the full moon skipping the most romantic month of the year. In fact, a black moon February ensures that the newmoon will always land right around Valentine’s Day. There’s no chance of even a waxing crescent for couples on that special night. But, how did this come to pass? February used to not exist at all. The calendar used by the ancient Romans would, at a glance, look very familiar to us. Its months had 30 and 31 days, and the year ended in December. But
