Charles Taine OF BLESSED MEMORY
Charles Taine was born on January 10, 1913 in Vienna, Austria. When he came to America, he lived in New York and served as an officer in the United States Army during World War II. Afterwards, he attended Columbia Law School where he graduated in the top 10% of his class. Charles was then hand-picked to work at the law firm of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan in Manhattan. Charles was married to a woman,
Frances, who was also extremely accomplished. During a time when women didn’t have the right to vote, Frances attended college and became a physician, a family practitioner. She also wrote poetry. The Taines moved to Miami and Charles continued working at the same law firm. He had first contacted the Greater Miami Jewish Federation when his wife became ill with Alzheimer’s and was no longer able to care for her by himself. Charles and Frances then moved into Douglas Gardens at Miami Jewish
Home and Hospital; he lived in the Irving Cypen Tower and she was in the Toppel Building. Grateful for the care they received, Charles became a Founder. Charitably inclined, he was also a Founder at Mount Sinai Medical Center, and a Forever Pacesetter for the Greater Miami Jewish Federation by making a minimum legacy commitment of $200,000.
The most important thing to say about Charles was how loyal he was to his wife. Frances was the love of his life and she, unfortunately, passed away two weeks before their 50th wedding anniversary. Although he had Parkinson’s, he would spend all day with her at the nursing home and got back to his apartment when she went to sleep. He devoted all of his time researching her disease. He was
stubborn in nature and would not take no for an answer. He strived for perfection in everything he did and would expect the same in return. He would do anything for you if you were his friend. Although Charles passed away in 2004, he will always be remembered as a wonderful caregiver, friend and philanthropist who generously supported Jewish causes during his lifetime and beyond.
