A WARM WELCOME
The warmest of welcomes from all of us at Cheltenham Racecourse as the 2019/2020 season gets underway, with £7.5 million of prize money on offer across our 16 days racing with no race in our professional season worth less than £15,000. This booklet provides you with all the information that you might need about our season ahead, including the race programme, racecourse facilities and stabling and what we offer in terms of complimentary tickets and hospitality. Should you require any further information, please do contact one of our team whose friendly faces you will see on the list of useful contacts listed opposite. Our summer maintenance programme has been busy as we aim to provide good ground for The Showcase commencing on Friday 25th October. The irrigation ring main has been replaced, the pull up area intensively drained, the parade ring turf re-laid and a new rubber walkway installed in the pre-parade ring. Following a review of this year’s Festival, changes have been made to the conditions of the National Hunt Chase to ensure the calibre of the horses and jockeys participating are fit for the challenge of this unique race, a permanent feature at Cheltenham since 1911. We have also announced the addition of a 2 1 / 2 m mares’ chase at The Festival in 2021 as part of the BHA led ongoing development of the programme for jump mares in training. Introduced at this year’s Festival, the conversion of a saddling box in the pre-parade ring to a “Trainers’ Refuge” proved very popular. It will again be in evidence this season, providing trainers with somewhere
handy to grab a quick refreshment or charge a phone during any busy card. The McCoys held in September at Cheltenham Racecourse again recognised the successes of last season, not just within the South West region but across the entire Jockey Club, with winners such as Altior, Paisley Park, and Tiger Roll on the equine front, with Ruby Walsh receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award and Noel Fehily the recipient of the Judges Award. The evening really whetted the appetite for the season to come and with the Leading Hurdler and Chaser Awards being based on number of wins, we celebrated some of the lesser known names in racing such as Dyliev, trained by Caroline Bailey and owned by the partnership of Herron, Nicholson & Proctor. Our Jockey Club Frequent Runner Scheme is still proving to be popular with Colin Tizzard top of the table for the above 40 horses in training section and Jeremy Scott winning the prize for 40 or below category. Full details can be found on page 9. With just (two weeks) to go we are ready to get started and look forward to welcoming you to Cheltenham and wish you the very best for a successful and enjoyable season to come. If you need help at anytime please call one of the team.
