I CAN’T SPRING- CLEAN THIS! The Tale of the World’s Messiest Baby

2022 MAR

My wife, Marah, is a bit of a neat freak. She hates clutter. Whenever she feels like we’re

single toy out of it and throw them around the room. I swear he enjoys that more than playing with the toys!

The toy tornadoes are nothing compared to the other baby messes, though. I’ll never forget the disaster that hit us during my very first Father’s Day weekend. That weekend, Marah, Bennett, and I traveled to Lexington, North Carolina, to visit her family on their farm. (Bennett loves watching the cows, and we like visiting the restaurants — especially Bull City Ciderworks.) At one point, Marah’s family and I wanted to go out to eat but pretty much everything was closed. We ended up at the Biscuitville drive-thru and parked in a nearby grocery store parking lot to chow down. There were six of us in the car (Marah, me, Bennett, and Marah’s mom, dad, and sister), and we unwrapped our food, talking and laughing the whole time. I was just digging into my breakfast when I heard it: a strange noise from Bennett’s car seat. Marah and I looked at each other — she’d heard it, too. Without speaking, we decided that whatever accident was happening couldn’t be that bad, and we’d deal with it after finishing our food. Oh man, was that a mistake! By the time I’d crumpled up my wrapper and walked around the car to see Bennett in the back seat, the poor guy’s diaper was so big that it was nearly up to his waist! The carseat was a mess, he was a mess … It was terrible. As soon as everyone else in the car smelled the problem, her dad jumped out and stayed about 30 feet away while her mom, her sister, Marah, and myself were all cleaning him up. It felt like I was trapped in a bad comedy. Just as Marah and I were finishing up our deep clean, it started pouring rain! We were all in the rain, even her dad who was still 30 feet away. Our bad luck just wouldn’t quit. We hopped back into the car soaking wet, smelly, and totally grossed out. It was so ridiculous that we had to laugh. If you have kids, I’m sure you can relate to this story — and it probably only gets worse from here. Still, considering all of the joy Bennett brings us along with the messes, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

accumulating too many knickknacks and stray papers, she goes on a rampage cleaning and giving away everything within reach. When she gets in one of those moods, I try to stay clear of her warpath.

“I’d better be careful,” I joked last time she had the

decluttering look in her eye. “If I don’t watch myself, I’m going to end up on the street with all of our other stuff!”

Thanks to Marah, I never really have to worry about spring-cleaning, but there’s someone else in my life who makes plenty of messes year-round: baby Bennett. When he was born, my dad built him a multilevel toy bin with spots for small toys, bookshelves, and displaying his little wagon and red tricycle. Bennett loves that toy bin. His favorite thing to do is take every

Good luck with your spring-cleaning!

4 Health Benefits of Spring-Cleaning IT’S MORE THAN JUST TIDYING UP

SELL Y A NEW THE

Patients with back pain, hip pain, knee pain, and sciatica struggle with all kinds of daily tasks, but especially with falling asleep at night. One thing chiropractors often suggest to side sleepers is tucking a pillow between their knees. This is a great idea to elevate the leg and reduce pressure, but as you know, it doesn’t work for everyone.

Sunday, March 20, is the first day of spring — which means it’s time for some spring-cleaning. Did you know that cleaning is not just about tidying up a physical space? It’s also about improving overall well-being. Here’s how organization and cleanliness can help you in more ways than you might expect. SPRING-CLEANING REDUCES STRESS AND DEPRESSION. Tidiness and mental health are actually connected. Studies have found that having a clean home is directly correlated to happiness and your ability to focus. Anxiety can spike when laundry is piling up, items are strewn everywhere, and papers get

You’ve heard the complaints: Their pillow is too big, it’s too small, it slips out of place, they need two pillows … the issues go on and on. Fortunately, we’ve discovered a product that will ease even the pickiest side sleeper’s pain: The Original Wonder Disc. The Wonder Disc is a unique self-centering support pillow in the perfect size and shape to slide between a patient’s bent knees while they sleep. It’s a short cylinder made from molded foam, and there’s a dip in the center of the disc to comfortably hold the knee. The design supports the patient’s lower back and legs without putting pressure on them, so they achieve proper spinal alignment and don’t cut off blood flow while they sleep.

scattered on various surfaces within the home. Clearing the clutter is a great way to boost your mood and increase those feel-good hormones.

IT PREVENTS ILLNESSES. Doorknobs, refrigerator handles, light switches, countertops, and remote controls are all things we touch many times a day. Cleaning anything that’s used often is one way to reduce the spread of germs. By keeping household surfaces clean, we help thwart the spread of viruses and illnesses. SPRING-CLEANING HELPS YOU BREATHE BETTER. Spring often brings pollen that triggers allergies for many. But pollen isn’t the only thing to blame when people have difficulty breathing. When dust and pet dander build up in your home, your respiratory system is greatly affected too. Deep-cleaning your air filters and vents can make breathing effortless — and it’s truly amazing how this can improve your well-being.

IT KEEPS YOU MORE ACTIVE. Off the couch and on your feet! Even just running the vacuum and clearing the clutter from the dining room table will get you up and moving, which is healthy for your heart and body. This spring season, putting some elbow grease into your cleaning will benefit you in more ways than one. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself later!

YOUR PATIENTS ON W SLEEP SOLUTION: WONDER DISC!

In short, The Wonder Disc does everything a pillow between the knees is meant to do — but better!

The very first tweet went up on Twitter almost exactly 16 years ago. That one sentence didn’t spark a revolution, but social media overall definitely has! It changed the way we communicate with friends and family, how we find jobs, and especially how we shop for products and services — chiropractic care included. 3 TIPS SPECIFICALLY FOR CHIROPRACTORS

Several chiropractors we work with have already

introduced The Wonder Disc in their clinics, and they’ve had great success selling it directly to patients. One big selling point is that the disc is easy for them to demonstrate

If your clinic isn’t on social media, you’re missing out on a HUGE potential client base. We’d recommend starting with Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube. Then, use these tips to grow and engage your audience. 1. LEVERAGE YOUR FAQS. If you’re ready to post on social media but not quite sure what to post about, start by writing down a list of the most common questions patients ask you. (You can also pull up the FAQ page on your website if you have one.) Those topics are perfect post fodder, because you know your followers are curious about them! Choose one of the questions and film a video of yourself answering it as though you were talking to a patient face-to-face. Then, upload that video across your social media platforms.

in the clinic. Once patients feel how comfortable it is and understand how to use it successfully, they’re more likely to take one home. Plus, it’s affordable, and it solves a serious problem plaguing their daily lives and undermining their health. We’ve even heard from some back pain, hip pain, knee pain, and sciatica sufferers that they take The Wonder Disc with them on long car rides as a convenient travel pillow. As cliche as it sounds, the possibilities really are endless.

To learn more about The Original Wonder Disc and place an order for your clinic, visit Chiro1Source.com and search “wonder disc.”

2. MATCH YOUR CONTENT TO THE ALGORITHMS. According to YoYoFuMedia, the Instagram algorithm prioritizes posts that use its latest features — Reels and IGTV. That means if you’ve just been posting photos to Instagram, you’re missing out on potential likes and followers! Upload those FAQ videos or videos of yourself giving chiropractic tips to boost your

reach. On TikTok, the algorithm favors content created within the app. So, try creating and posting your videos there first, then putting

them on Instagram and Facebook. Don’t dismiss TikTok as “just for kids,” either. The California-based @occhiropractor has more than 400,000 followers on the platform.

HAVE A LAUGH!

3. ENGAGE YOUR PATIENTS AND STAFF. Videos of yourself giving tips are great, but content with your staff and patients will perform even better. Ask patients if they mind starring in adjustment videos, and share photos of staff antics on Facebook. The more personal you get, the stronger your relationship with your followers will be, and the more likely it is they’ll convert to patients.

2 Scientific Methods to Stop Forgetting SELF-EMPOWERING MOTIVATION IS A ‘SHORTCUT’

Why do we supplement our diets with omega-3s and do puzzle games to strengthen the health of our brains? The most important reason is to prevent memory loss. However, in order to enhance our memory and lessen the instances of forgetting both big and little things, these brain-based strategies can help!

Researchers at Nagoya University in Japan have found that mastery-approach goals (i.e., developing your own competence) enhance memory of newly learned material, whereas performance-approach goals (i.e., comparing yourself to others) can create “tenuous connections” in memory. The authors concluded the study by saying, “Motivation factors can influence inhibition and forgetting.” So, it might be time to ask yourself: What motivates you to learn new things, and how can you change your approach? NO. 2: ASK WHY. A 2016 study from the European Journal of Social Psychology found that thinking

more abstractly can actually reduce memory issues. The study examined how levels of “construal” (examination and interpretation) can affect memory, and their results suggested that “abstract thinking can eliminate retrieval-induced forgetting because of relational processing, demonstrating the roles of the levels of construal on memory inhibition.” In other words, if you know the “how” and “why” behind things you intend to remember, you’ll be more likely to remember them. If you’ve been forgetful lately, maybe it’s time to rethink how you approach new information — according to researchers, a new source of motivation or critical thinking mindset could make all the difference!

NO. 1: AIM FOR MASTERY, NOT RELATIVE PERFORMANCE.

When losing weight, some people find it helpful to stop checking Facebook or Instagram to prevent self-comparisons. Similarly, your brain forgets what’s important when you compare your performance to others.
