(continued from outside) Words like: coronavirus, quarantine, vaccine, mandates, and masks come to mind. For me, the word that continues to pop up is grateful. Don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait to get back to “normal” just as much as the next person. However, when reflecting back on the last eight months there are just so many positive things to be thankful for. Personally, we have had more family dinners, more family game nights and generally more time spent together as a family. Invariably whenever I speak to someone about our family and they themselves have grown children they describe how much they cherished their time with the kids when the kids were younger. Dominic turned 6 this year, Cora turned 4 and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome another member to our family in January. Being forced to slow down, prioritize and not take this time for granted has been a real gift. Beyond our personal lives, many businesses have needed to adapt and/or alter how they operate. From telehealth, temperatures, masks, scheduling changes, to altering clinical set up to ensure social distancing, our team at Choice has worked incredibly hard and continued to place patient care at the forefront since March. Erin and I have always felt extremely
fortunate and grateful for our amazing team but that has never held more true than this year. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, we have the best “jobs” in the world. Every single day we get the opportunity to meet extraordinary members of our community and play a part in helping them to move well to get back to living life. We don’t exist without each and every one of our amazing Choice PT community members and for that we are very, very grateful. Thank you for entrusting us with your Physical Therapy needs, and thank you for spreading the word about Choice PT to your friends and family members that are in pain or just looking to get rid of those pesky aches and pains. As we get ready for Thanksgiving, take a couple minutes to focus on the positive things around you. It will likely be the least physical exercise prescription you’ll receive but you may be surprised at how good it can make you feel.
Happy Thanksgiving, have a great month! Joe

IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH BY STRENGTHENING YOUR CORE
How is your posture? Posture is an important part of everyday life that many of us tend not to focus on – Do you slouch in your desk chair, or slump at your computer while you do work? When you stand for prolonged periods of time, do you notice your stomach sticking out a bit?
These are all signs of core muscle weakness that can affect your posture and cause pain in your back or neck.
Your core muscles help you do a lot – from sitting, to walking, to doing a large number of physical activities. If your core muscles are weak, you may unknowingly be causing some damage to your body. Contact Choice Physical Therapy today to figure out how we can help you strengthen your core muscles and improve your overall health. What exactly are the core muscles? When most people think of core muscles, they immediately think of the abdominals. However, the core is made up of much more than that! In fact, your core muscles include your abdominal, lower back, pelvic, and gluteus muscles. The group of muscles that make up your core help with stabilizing your body, constructing your posture, and allowing your skeleton to move properly. When any of the muscles within that group become weak, your body experiences an instability that makes it difficult for your body to function properly. As a result, you end up compensating by straining different areas of the body, most commonly the back and neck muscles. As a result, this leads to undesirable consequences, such as poor posture, fatigue, inflammation, or pain.
How can I strengthen my core muscles? When you are experiencing pain, sometimes it is necessary to seek the assistance of a trained professional in the field of human movement. At Choice Physical Therapy, our licensed physical therapists will conduct a physical evaluation to determine where the pain is rooted and what muscles must be strengthened in order to correct it. Whether you are feeling pain in your back, neck, shoulders, or legs, we will perform a thorough analysis of your posture, movement, and strength to pinpoint exactly what is causing your pain. From there, we will create an individualized treatment plan for you based on your specific needs, aimed at strengthening your core, improving your posture, and alleviating your pain. At Choice Physical Therapy our physical therapists are here to help you improve your function and relieve your pain. If you are looking to strengthen your core, relieve your pain, and improve your overall health, contact us today!

In support of National PT Day of Service (which is observed on 10/10) both of our clinics chose separate service projects to give back to our community in new innovative ways. At Campbell Ave, we were privileged to be able to partner with an amazing business in Downtown Troy, Can Stop Redemption Center and Groceries, Inc. on Washington Street. Owners Bill & Melissa have created a community outreach program where can/bottle redemption accounts are made to give back to local families in need, children in the neighborhood who may need a snack, or larger organizations like The Mary Fund for Cystic Fibrosis. Thank you to our amazing CPT community and team who collected >2,000 cans to be able to support this selfless cause.
At Speigletown, the rainy weather postponed our planned fall clean up (2 weeks in a row!) however we were able to bring JoAnn a gift basket filled with some pandemic necessities. But don’t you worry JoAnn once we have a sunny day we will get our rakes/leaf blowers ready & head back to assist with some yard work! It’s people like JoAnn and the community members we get to meet through physical therapy, that remind us every day why we do what we do.
