DeSoto City Lights DESOTO WELCOMES NEWLY ELECTED COUNCILMEMBERS The General ElecƟon held on Saturday, May 1 to fill Place 6 and 7 resulted in the reelecƟon of Councilmember LeƟƟa Hughes for Place 7 and the elecƟon of Crystal Chism, who will replace Councilmember Candice Quarles for Place 6.
Crystal Chism is a lifelong Texan and Dallas naƟve. In 2016, Councilmember‐elect Chism moved to DeSoto with her husband, QuenƟn. Crystal grew up in Dallas' Pleasant Grove area and later joined
the military aŌer high school. She has more than eleven years of military service, including two deployment tours to Iraq in support of OperaƟon Iraqi Freedom and OperaƟon Enduring Freedom. Crystal received her Bachelors of Business Management degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and has spent most of her career in management, process improvement, and government. Crystal has been an acƟve community leader in DeSoto the last five years. She and her husband reside in the Silver Creek Estates community.
Councilmember LeƟƟa Hughes was first elected to DeSoto's City Council in the February 2021 Special ElecƟon to serve an unexpired term for Place 7. Councilmember Hughes is originally from Ennis, Texas, where she graduated from Ennis High School and later enrolled at the University of Texas at Arlington. She also aƩended Paul Quinn College and majored in Business Management. Councilmember Hughes has been a resident of DeSoto for 18 years and is very acƟve in the Real Estate community with over 20 years of residenƟal and commercial property experience. She currently serves as the Council Liaison to the Park Development Board.

Board Mtg. ‐ virtual ‐ 9 am DESOTO DOWN PAYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM DeSoto recently rolled out a new program that provides mortgage assistance for income‐eligible, first‐Ɵme homebuyers. The DeSoto Down Payment Assistance Program can provide up to $10,000 in assistance for first‐ Ɵme homebuyers who qualify based on HUD Income Limits per household size. The amount of assistance will be dependent on the sales price and loan amount from the lender. Through this program, a financial subsidy is available in the form of closing costs and down payment assistance for DeSoto residents who purchase homes in the DeSoto city limits. USE THE GORequest APP DeSoto residents can report service requests using the City's GORequest Mobile App. The app also allows residents the opƟon of viewing and paying their water bill, track service requests and aƩach photos related to the request. Once submiƩed, the AcƟon Center will route the request to the proper department. The GORequest app is available for download on Apple and Google Play.

CULTURAL ARTS MASTER PLAN ACCEPTED BY COUNCIL
DeSoto CARES is the COVID Relief Campaign for the City of DeSoto, Texas. It encompasses all of the available pandemic relief assistance programs available to residents and businesses. Each program has its own eligibility criteria and is funded by the CARES Act. To learn more about or qualify for these assistance programs visit www.desototexas.gov/1929/COVID‐19‐ InformaƟon‐‐‐City‐of‐DeSoto. SBA'S RESTAURANT REVITALIZATION FUND EffecƟve May 3rd, the U.S. Small Business AdministraƟon (SBA) began accepƟng applicaƟons for the Restaurant
RevitalizaƟon Fund (RRF), which provides emergency assistance for eligible restaurants, bars, and other qualifying businesses impacted by COVID‐19. The maximum funding amount is $5 million per locaƟon, and the minimum funding award is $1,000.
