Thank you for taking the time to find out more about the appointment of Head of Property Services with the Clifton Diocese. The Head of Property is responsible for more than 330 Diocesan properties, ranging from Grade l listed, heritage assets through to more modern stock. The portfolio is made up of parish and curial properties including presbyteries, churchesand church buildings, investment properties as well as involvement with school buildings and school land. The primary purpose of the role is to ensure that the Property Services Department provide effective management, development, repair, refurbishments and improvement, rationalisation, leases, licenses and acquisition and disposal of the Diocesan property portfolio. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, and as part of the senior leadership team, you will be a responsible for a team of 5 property professionals. The Head of Property Services will ensure effective delivery of organisation’s property, whilst acting as a mentor and assisting with their professional development. A highly personable and customer focussed approach is vital to success in the role, owing to regular and continued liaison with parishes, members of the clergy, the community and as a key interface of the Diocese. The Head of Property Services appointment offers the opportunity to have a direct impact on the lives of the clergy and community through property across a highly diverse portfolio and a wide range of estate related duties.

CLIFTON DIOCESE

The Diocese of Clifton is the Roman Catholic diocese covering the West of England and includes the City and County of Bristol, covering 4,215 square miles, stretching from Stow in the Wold in the north to Minehead and Watchet in the South. The most north-westerly parishes are in the Forest of Dean, while Marlborough near Swindon is one of the most easterly. Other cities and towns include Bath, Wells, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Salisbury, Taunton and Weston-Super-Mare.

There are 107 parishes within 13 deaneries serving a Catholic population of around 190,000.

THE PORTFOLIO

The Clifton Diocese own a diverse portfolio made up of over 300 properties.

The portfolio comprises both parish and curial properties including presbyteries, churches and church buildings, investment properties as well as involvement with school buildings and school land.

PROPERTY SERVICES

The Department deals with all aspects of Diocesan land and buildings. We help parishes maintain their churches and assist with refurbishment and new build projects including the appointment of consultants such as architects and engineers. We also deal with leases, where buildings are let and licences for other use of Diocesan property. For those parishes that have listed churches, we represent the Diocese to the Historic Churches Committee. Health and Safety comes under our remit as does IT.

We cross reference with other departments including the Finance Department and the Schools and Colleges Department, where we deal with land matters, leases and some new build projects.

The department is also represented on the Liturgical (Art and Architecture) Committee.

Key Accountabilities

Leading and Management of Staff • Lead staff within the Property Services Department for the effective operation of the department. • Consider staff requirements for the effective delivery of services. • Line management of staff of a team of five.
