Professionals in this field are consistently sought after to inform, direct, and improve decision-making for managers and leadership in every industry, using a comprehensive understanding of business and effective communication to activate their accounting knowledge. Prepare for careers in: Accounting (CPA), Managerial Accounting (CMA), Audit (CIA) As an accounting professional, you are likely to begin your career in a large accounting firm. As you gain experience, you will have many career paths open for you. You might rise within a large firm, become the go-to person within a smaller company or nonprofit organization, or start your own. What you will study: General business, financial accounting methods and theory, taxation, and analysis. ECONOMICS Definition:

ENTREPRENEURSHIP Definition:

Economics is the study of business firms; the functioning of regional, national, and global markets; and the development of analytical techniques that aid in decision-making and understanding market behavior. Prepare for careers in: Management, Marketing, Business Research, Economic Planning, and Human Resources with employers in industry, trade, banking, and government.

By developing an “Entrepreneurial Mindset and Skil Sets,” majors in this field enjoy developing ideas and cultivating innovation. Successful entrepreneurs are interested and engaged learners with skills that can be applied to work in a variety of fields. Entrepreneurship is a growth vs. fixed mindset. Prepare for careers in: Entrepreneurship degrees will provide the skillset and mindset necessary to be hired by local start-ups, growing organizations, and/or established companies in these and other fields: • Research and Development • Business Consultants • Sales • Development/Fundraising • Marketing • Real Estate What you will study: Entrepreneurial orientation in a variety of settings, including new venture creation, social stewardship, family business, government operations, and corporate endeavors, to foster deep thinking, experimentation, observation, and reflection. The goal is for students to create an “Entrepreneurial Mindset” rooted in a solid foundation formed by successful organizational practices and theory as a means of instigating creativity and action into economic development. FINANCE Definition:

HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT Definition: The Hospitality industry encompasses a spectrum of opportunities within the larger service industry. Jobs focus on providing customer service and managing people and operations, as well as specialized or skill-based roles. Professionals in hospitality work together to create exceptional experiences for guests that lead to memories that last a lifetime. Prepare for careers in: Hotel and restaurant management, operations, investment, and advisory services as well as catering and event planning in venues ranging from professional sports and entertainment to convention and exposition centers. Other areas of employment include airlines, cruise lines, car rental companies, theme and amusement parks, and tourism (travel companies, visitors bureaus etc.). What you will study: Service management and operational analytics, with courses in guest service management, revenue management, and strategic analytics in hospitality. Minors in entrepreneurship or marketing may serve to enhance the skills developed in the Hospitality Management major program. Qualities and skills that make a successful Hospitality Management Major:

Finance is an analytical discipline dealing with the acquisition and distribution of funds, financial statement analysis, security analysis, risk assessment, valuation of assets and liabilities, functioning of financial markets, and management of investments, acquisitions, funds, assets, liabilities, risk, businesses, and financial institutions. Prepare for careers in: Banking, financial management, stockbroking, financial analysis, portfolio management, financial consulting, investment banking, and financial planning.

Students are also well prepared for graduate study in law and business.

What you will study: The field of finance integrates many aspects of business, including accounting, finance, business operations, and quantitative analysis. You will learn to understand financial statement analysis, investment management, the acquisition and distribution of funds, security analysis, risk assessment, the valuation of assets and liabilities, the functioning of financial markets, funds, assets, liability management, financial institutions, and more.
