Letter from Dr. Blanc

Davis College, formerly Practical Bible Training School, was founded in April 1900 by evangelist John A. Davis, who taught the first classes in the upper level of a store in Johnson City, NY. Today, young men and women train at Davis College for a fulfilling lifetime of Christian vocational ministry. After graduation, Davis students will join the ranks of hundreds of alumni who are faithfully proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in their communities and across the globe. Is God calling you to serve in the global harvest? The call to serve is also a call to prepare! As a Davis College student, you will confidently embrace the motto: “Called to serve, equipped at Davis.” • You may be thinking, “Doug, I really don’t know how God might use me; I only know that I want to be of use to Him, anywhere, doing anything He wants me to do.” Awesome! Davis College can help you prepare. • You may be thinking, “Doug, God is leading me to start a church in my gospel-starved community.” Great! In today’s world, there is a massive need for trained Christian leaders to evangelize communities and organize new churches. Davis College can help you in your pursuit. • You may be thinking, “Doug, I’m a relatively new believer with a heart for God. I want to know Him better through a formal study of the Bible and gain lifelong ministry skills along the way.” Phenomenal! Knowing God begins with prayer and the study of His Word. Davis College can help you grow deeper.

• You may even be dreaming of furthering your education but are thinking, “Doug, I’ve never been the best student. I don’t know if God can use me because of how I struggle academically.” I was there once, and I know how you feel. However, I’m living proof that anyone who loves God and is devoted to His service can be trained and excel in ministry. This may sound cliché, but if God can use me, He can also use you – and Davis College can help you succeed. • You may also be thinking that the financial burden of two more years of formal training makes it impossible for you to consider Davis College. I fully understand. May I invite you to speak with me before you conclude that your dream is impossible to pursue through Davis College? Is God calling you to serve and to prepare? Davis College is a place where you’ll discover practical Bible-based and Christ-centered ministry training that will equip you through academic excellence, spiritual investment, and real-world experience. At Davis College, you’ll receive comprehensive training. Davis College will challenge your mind in classes, provide an environment where you can grow spiritually in your relationship with God, and guide you in hands-on training to become equipped with lifelong ministry skills. I hope to personally welcome you as a Davis student soon! My office is in the Page Center for Student Success. Please stop by – I’d love to chat with you about your future at Davis College!

Davis Education with the WOLBI Experience

Davis College and Word of Life Bible Institute have combined their strengths into a program unlike any other! Everything you have come to know and love about WOLBI will continue when you transfer, with the addition of Davis College academics. This means you will earn your accredited four-year degree without sacrificing any of the WOLBI campus experience. The Bachelor of Religious Education (BRE) degree at Davis is available to students who have completed the first and second-year programs at Word of Life, and it allows second-year graduates to complete their degree in two years at Davis. The BRE contains more Bible and ministry-related courses than traditional programs, which place more emphasis on general studies. This translates into a degree that offers more biblical and theological studies than other colleges, with several courses tailored to suit specific ministry preferences. Davis College offers our BRE degree with two ministry tracks, Christian Ministries and Christian Counseling.

• The Christian Ministries track is a great program if you feel God is calling you to be a missionary, pastor, church planter, or youth worker. • The Christian Counseling track is supported by the Biblical Counseling Center located on the WOLBI campus and is ideal if you are interested in a career as a counselor. Davis College classes are offered in traditional classroom settings with highly accomplished faculty. Davis faculty are active in ministry, which means they can mentor you out of their own experience. Classes are small, which means professors can focus on you, your personal experience, and your ministry expectations. Whether God has called you to be a missionary, pastor, church planter, youth worker, or biblical counselor, consider being equipped on the WOLBI campus through Davis College.

Student Testimony I’ve felt called to local church ministries for a long time, so I wanted to attend a school where I would be prepared for that goal. That’s why, when I was searching for a college, I chose Davis. Life as a Davis student is mission and outreach-oriented, and the faculty make a point to pour into you. My professors have pushed me to grow in my faith, study God’s Word on an intimate level, and practically and effectively minister to others. I am deeply involved in my church, and many of the topics and lessons I learned in the classroom are now being utilized ‘on the field.’ Many kids at my church have questions about how to become more mature in their faith, how to deal with their doubts, how to minister to those who have experienced a recent loss, and how to connect with classmates who come from different cultures. Heavy stuff, right?

specifically because those subjects have come up in class or during one-on-one meetings with my discipler. My professors have instructed me in a practical and in-depth way so that I’m able to understand and apply biblical principles to these real-world situations. Before coming to Davis, I completed both the first and second-year programs at Word of Life Bible Institute. I absolutely loved my time at WOLBI, but studying at Davis has given me more opportunities to speak with my professors and ask questions that I would not have had the opportunity to ask due to WOLBI’s larger class sizes. This smaller class size also means that professors have the opportunity to spend out-of-class time with each student and can be deliberate in pouring into and mentoring them without being overwhelmed or pressed for time.

To God be the glory, I have been able to answer many of those questions

Student Life / Academics • WOL Quiet Time: The Word of Life Quiet Time needs to be completed, but does not have to be done at the WOLBI required time. • Study Hours: There are no required study hours unless a Davis student is a Dorm RA and must supervise the dorm during this time. • Dorm Devotions: Dorm devotions are required unless the student has an off-campus job that conflicts. • Discipline Points: Davis students can receive D-points for violating student handbook obligations. • Christian Disciplines Course: Although Davis students are not enrolled in the Christian Disciplines Course and do not receive grades as other WOLBI students do, they are still asked to do certain elements of it, including Quiet Time, ministry, and service assignments.

Ministries / Service Assignments • Ministry and Service Assignments: Davis students can request their preference in both of these areas, and the Ministries Department will do their best to accommodate their requests as upperclassmen. • Off Campus Work: Davis students may seek off-campus work opportunities. If an off-campus job is obtained, students need to bring their schedule to the Ministries Department in order to rearrange their service and ministry assignments around their work schedule. • Summer Ministry: Davis students are not required to have a summer ministry. They may choose to apply for open positions at summer camp, and, should they be hired, will be paid according to the summer pay scale.

Huskies Athletics: Davis College now operates on the campus of Word of Life Bible Institute, and both athletic programs have been combined into Huskies Athletics. We offer a variety of sports, including men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s softball, and women’s volleyball. We are members of the USCAA and follow their eligibility guidelines, which allow students to compete in up to four years of athletics. As an athletic program, we desire to develop the skills of every participating athlete in order to put competitive teams on the court and field. In doing so, students will develop an understanding of how to use sports as a way to evangelize and how to utilize their gifts for God no matter where they are. In the Huskies Athletics programs, athletes play for more than personal gain – they play for God’s glory.

Graduating Senior Testimony I chose Davis College because it was a high-quality, convenient choice for me to finish my degree, especially since I was already a student at Word of Life Bible Institute. I knew that Davis was partnering with the Bible Institute to give students the opportunity to complete their bachelor’s degree, so I decided to learn more. God had already placed the desire in my heart to finish my education at a Christian college, and I am so thankful He did – these past few years at Davis have been incredibly growing.

through potential challenges, and coached me in the importance of balancing my schedule and life. They not only guided me as I walked toward future ministry, but they also showed me the importance of utilizing the gifts God has given me right where I am. I would absolutely recommend Davis College to others! It is simple and easy to apply, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. The President of Davis College, Dr. Blanc, was especially welcoming and helpful to me. I was an unusual case for Davis, as I transferred with three years of college already, so in the beginning, I felt alone and out of place. Dr. Blanc reminded me that God had brought me to Davis as part of His unique plan for me, and that the call to serve is a call to prepare.

My goal is to serve in either music or children’s ministry. Since I am getting my degree in Christian Ministries, my classes are helping me prepare for that goal. Davis College provided amazing opportunities for me

to be involved with ministry both in and outside of class. My professors invested in me deeply, and they prepared me for working with others, walked me
