Also, I would like to wish you all a Happy Human Rights Day. May it be an occasion for all of us to honour our rights and always stand up for them and celebrate them to the fullest.

Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year.

Javeria SAUD SUPER MULTI TALENTED STAR

As you are aware, I am an actress, writer, singer, designer, host, and producer, and I enjoy all of these roles. But it's writing and hosting that I really enjoy. I enjoy writing because it allows you to express your innermost thoughts and feelings to the rest of the world through words. As a writer, you are connected to your inner self and thoughts. While I enjoy hosting because it allows me to connect with my fans directly, I also enjoy hosting because it allows me to learn about other people's thought processes and feelings. You can't fake it when you're hosting because what you feel is what you bring out to the world, and also I've always loved to sing. How was the time period in your life between 2001 and 2006 when you took a break from acting? QUESTION 02 Javeria Saud is known for being television actress, producer, singer, and host. Out of all these, what do you enjoy doing the most and why? QUESTION 01 It simply replenished my soul, as I had been overworked for about ten years. I took a two- to three-year long break from my job. First and foremost, I was occupied with relocating to my new home, leaving the rest of my time to myself, my family and friends, and, last but not least, Allah. I devoted a lot of time to Allah because I couldn't spend much time praying when I was working, but during this time, I spent a significant amount of time worshipping, reading, and understanding all the verses of our holy Quran. That was the most peaceful time in my life, and it was also the time when I married. After about a year and a half, I returned to work.

What advise do you have for married couples? What is that most important thing in a relationship according to you for a successful and a happy married life? QUESTION 03 For the married couple, I can say that when two people marry and spend their lives together, they argue, even fight about many issues, but there are also moments of love, happiness, resentment, and complaints, and that is just the beauty of the marriage relationship. I would only suggest that in a relationship, one should always keep in mind that there should be no room for anyone other than one's children. The only thing to remember is that when two people are in a relationship, they should always stand by each other and love each other forever. I think the life of a woman revolves around her family. In almost every household there is woman who is the embodiment of sacrifice. She wants to give the best of everything to her better half, her children her elders and her entire family. The character of Jameela I played in the Geo TV’s television drama symbolizes the perfect role of a daughter, sister ,wife and mother that every woman play in almost every household of Pakistan. You are best known for playing the protagonist Jameela in Geo TV's television drama series Yeh Zindagi Hai. How close s that role to your life and what has been your takeway from that role? QUESTION 04

As a result, I don't have much experience with any transformations I've gone through in my life, besides the fact that I used to be a very straightforward person who couldn't care less about what I said in front of anyone, regardless of their feelings and thoughts on that speech of mine, because I knew it was all true from my heart and not a fake or lie. I had to change my habit of being so direct because I realized that my positive and true opinions could influence or even hurt someone else. I was also inspired to make this change by our prophet, as I had heard that he used to always speak the truth but was also known for being polite and sweet, which made his words have a positive impact on others. What are your upcoming projects? QUESTION 06 Can you share an experience which might have led to any kind of transformation in your life? QUESTION 05 As for my upcoming projects, we are currently working on a film that I am also writing, which will undoubtedly take some time to complete. In addition, I am working on some social causes that are vital to our country. Aside from that, we're also working on a web series, which will take some time to complete but will be well worth the wait for everyone. Do you find it difficult to manage family and work together? QUESTION 07 Although maintaining a balance between our work life and personal life is not an easy task in our line of work, I have been able to manage it very well up to this point. I always prioritize my

work, but when I'm with my family and children, my priorities shift. I believe in spending quality time rather than quantity time. I also believe that because of my hectic work schedule, my family time is not disrupted. When I am with my family, I am only with them because most people are busy and distracted by other things and do not spend quality time with their children even when they are at home all day. I make certain that my work has no negative impact on my family or vice versa. If God gave me one super power , I would only wish for the power to be able to dedicate my life to serve the abode , the house of Allah anytime, the freedom to go there anytime and the ability to serve Allah anytime. That would be the only power I want. If God gave you one super power of your choice, what would that be and why? QUESTION 08 The main reason for establishing our own production house was the invasion of other countries culture and traditions, and as a result, the content produced at the time was obsessed with rating. It was mostly based on other cultures or on some meaningless plot. I wanted to show the world our country's culture. Bring the beauty of Pakistan to everyone's attention. So I discussed with Saud that the television shows that were popular at the time had nothing to do with Pakistani society or culture. As a result, we took the initiative to launch our own production company and buck the trend. JJS production house promote our Pakistani culture , social issues and religion in YEH ZINDAGI HAI, KHUDA AUR MOHABBAT, PAK VILLA and YEH KESI MOHABBAT HAI. Tell us how you decided to own a production house and your experience as a producer? QUESTION 09

I would like to congratulate Amber for this wonderful initiative on creating this networking platform for the entire world. There are many people who only aspire to achieve and be a pioneer of change and growth but there are only a few who actually chase their dream and passion of being an embodiment of change and growth and that is Amber. She is the source through which the people from different nations and the entire world get a chance to network and stay connected, to learn from each others success stories and experiences and educate each other on the various eras of life. Meditation is a simplest and quickest way to reduce stress. Meditation can wash away the stress of the day, bringing with it inner peace. If stress is making you anxious, tense, and worried, even a few minutes of meditation can help you regain your calm and inner peace. Meditation is simple and inexpensive and no special equipment is required. You can meditate wherever you are — on a walk, on the bus, while waiting at the doctor's office, or even in the middle of a difficult business meeting. For thousands of years, people have practiced meditation. It was originally intended to aid in the deeper understanding of life's sacred and mystical forces. And now it is widely used for relaxation and stress reduction. It is a type of complementary medicine for the mind and body. During meditation, you focus your attention and clear your mind of the jumbled thoughts that may be crowding your mind and causing stress. It can help you improve both your physical and emotional well-being. Meditation can provide you with a sense of calm, peace, and balance, which can benefit your emotional well-being as well as your overall health. And the benefits don't stop when you stop meditating. Meditation can help you go through your day more calmly and may help you manage symptoms of certain medical conditions. IT MAY HELP YOU

Meditation may also be beneficial if you have a medical condition, particularly one that is exacerbated by stress. Keeping this in mind, some research suggests that meditation may aid in the management of symptoms associated with conditions such as:

Anxiety Asthma Cancer Chronic pain Depression Heart disease High blood pressure Irritable bowel syndrome Sleep problems Tension headaches

Meditation can aggravate symptoms associated with certain mental and physical health conditions in some cases. Meditation is not a substitute for conventional medical treatment. There are many different types of meditation and relaxation techniques that include meditation. All have the same goal in mind: to find inner peace.

Transcendental Meditation is a straightforward and natural technique. Transcendental Meditation involves silently repeating a personal mantra, such as a word, sound, or phrase, in a specific manner. This type of meditation may allow your body to enter a state of deep rest and relaxation, as well as your mind to achieve a state of inner peace, without the need for concentration or effort. Doing yoga promote a more flexible body and a calm mind, you practise a series of postures and controlled breathing exercises. You're encouraged to focus less on your busy day and more on the present moment as you move through poses that require balance and concentration. 01. Guided meditation is one method of meditation. This type of meditation, also known as guided imagery or visualization, involves creating mental images of places or situations that you find relaxing. You try to use as many of your senses as possible, including smells, sights, sounds, and textures. A guide or teacher may guide you through this process. 02. Meditation with a mantra. To avoid distracting thoughts, you silently repeat a calming word, thought, or phrase during this type of meditation. 03. Meditation for mindfulness. This type of meditation is based on mindfulness, or a greater awareness and acceptance of living in the present moment. Meditation expands your conscious awareness. During meditation, you concentrate on what you are experiencing, such as the flow of your breath. To restore and maintain balance, this practise typically combines meditation, relaxation, physical movement, and breathing exercises.

Different types of meditation may include various features to assist you in your meditation. 01. Focused attention is one of the most common features of meditation. One of the most important aspects of meditation is the ability to focus your attention. Focusing your attention is what allows your mind to be free of the numerous distractions that cause stress and worry. You can direct your attention to a specific object, an image, a mantra, or even your breathing. 02. Breathing that is relaxed. The goal is to slow your breathing, take in more oxygen, and reduce the use of your shoulder, neck, and upper chest muscles while breathing, allowing you to breathe more efficiently. If you're a beginner, it may be easier to meditate if you're in a quiet place with few distractions, such as no television, radio, or cellphones. You may be able to meditate anywhere as your skills improve, especially in high-traffic areas. Stress situations where meditation can help you the most, such as a traffic jam, a stressful work meeting, or a long line at the grocery store. 03. A relaxing position. Meditation can be practised while sitting, lying down, walking, or in any other position or activity. Simply try to relax so that you can get the most out of your meditation. Allow thoughts to pass through your mind without judging them. Techniques for Practicing Meditation on a Daily Basis Don't let the prospect of meditating the "right" way add to your anxiety. You have the option of attending special meditation centres or group classes led by trained instructors if you so desire. However, you can easily practise meditation on your own. You can also make meditation as formal or informal as you want, depending on your lifestyle and situation. Some people incorporate meditation into their daily lives. They could, for example, begin and end each day with an hour of meditation. But all you really need is a few minutes of uninterrupted meditation time. Here are some methods for doing your own meditation whenever you want: • Take a deep breath. Because breathing is a natural function, this technique is ideal for beginners. Concentrate solely on your breathing. Recognize your body's various sensations, such as pain, tension, warmth, or relaxation. Combining body scanning with breathing exercises; imagine breathing heat or relaxation into and out of various parts of your body.

45

04. Recite a mantra. Combining a walk with meditation is a productive and healthy way to unwind. Concentrate on your legs and feet, mentally repeating action words like "lifting," "moving," and "placing" as you lift each foot, move your leg forward, and place your foot on the ground. • Participate in prayer. Prayer is the most well-known and widely practised form of meditation. You focus your attention on a sacred image or being in this type of meditation, weaving feelings of love, compassion, and gratitude into your thoughts.

AND THE SPIRIT OF GIVING BACK - BE THE CHANGE YOUWANT TO SEE

The last month November was the month of Thanksgiving and so this is a good time to remind ourselves the importance of being thankful and grateful towards our life, friends, family and our community.

We learn to appreciate things once we lose them and so Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on our blessings and give back if we have prospered during the year. Here are some ways to just do that:

DONATE TO A LOCAL CHARITY

If you are not preparing the thanksgiving meal this year for your family & friends, you could always pick up some or all of the grocery tab for the person who would be doing that. Just imagine how much grateful that person would be to have some relief in preparing a relatively expensive meal for so many people. OFFER TO PAY FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER If you are not preparing the thanksgiving meal this year for your family & friends, you could always pick up some or all of the grocery tab for the person who would be doing that. Just imagine how much grateful that person would be to have some relief in preparing a relatively expensive meal for so many people. OFFER TO PAY FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER

One of the best and most heartwarming ways to give thanks and give back during this season involves making a cash, food, clothing or even a blanket donation at your favorite local charity organization. These groups work hard to provide comforts to people in need.

UNPLUG AND REFLECT

We often nowadays are dependent on electronic gadgets and screens even when we are with our friends and family. Though giving up the holiday football season might be tough, especially if it’s a tradition, you might be surprised at how refreshing it is to pay attention to your friends and family instead of a screen. Try to play board games or communicate with each other involving all age groups.

59

VOLUNTEER AT A SHELTER

It may seem cliché, but for many who volunteer their time at a shelter, it has been a life changing experience. You might opt to prepare Thanksgiving dinner for men, women and children in need which can be quite rewarding especially if you take the time out to talk to the visitors who come there. Thanksgiving is a time to look around at all we have and truly give thanks for our blessings. As we do so, we also should remember those who aren’t as fortunate as well as those who rarely celebrate holidays with their loved ones just so they can watch over us. In case we have not had the opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving in this way this year, we can always practice this in the upcoming holiday season. As it is never too late to give back to the community & the people.

Christmas Around the World Christmas, which is celebrated on December 25, is both a sacred religious holiday and a global cultural and commercial phenomenon. Exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family and friends, and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive are all popular traditions. Americans re-invented Christmas, transforming it from a raucous carnival holiday to a family-centered day of peace and nostalgia. Old traditions were rediscovered as Americans began to embrace Christmas as the ideal family holiday. People looked to recent immigrants, as well as Catholic and Episcopal churches, for guidance on how to observe the day. Over the next 100 years, Americans developed their own Christmas tradition, incorporating elements of many other customs such as tree decorating, holiday card sending, and gift-giving. Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is a classic holiday story. The story's message, about the importance of charity and good will toward all humanity, struck a powerful chord in the United States and England, demonstrating the benefits of celebrating the holiday to Victorians.

The legend of Santa Claus can be traced back to a monk named St. Nicholas who was born in Turkey around 280 A.D. St. Nicholas gave away all of his inherited wealth and travelled the countryside helping the poor and sick, becoming known as the protector of children and sailors. One of the best-known St. Nicholas stories is the time he saved three poor sisters from being sold into slavery or prostitution by their father by providing them with a dowry so that they could be married. Today, he is thought of mainly as the jolly man in red who brings toys to good girls and boys on Christmas Eve. Like many other festive Christmas customs, the Christmas tree has its tale. Putting lights on a tree goes back to the idea of the lights representing Jesus as Light in the darkness. Lights and ornaments on the tree came to represent the stars and planets in the sky. Many Christians would place a manger under their trees to represent Jesus Christ's nativity under the stars. Long before Christianity, plants and trees that remained green all year had a special significance for people during the winter. Just as people today decorate their homes with pine, spruce, and fir trees during the holiday season, ancient peoples hung evergreen boughs over their doors and windows. Evergreens were thought to ward off witches, ghosts, evil spirits, and illness in many countries. Christmas trees were unusual to most nineteenth-century Americans. It is widely assumed that Martin Luther, a 16th-century Protestant reformer, was the first to add lighted candles to a tree. He was walking toward his house one winter evening, writing a sermon, when he was struck by the brilliance of stars twinkling among the evergreens. He planted a tree in the park to recreate the scene for his family. A bird ornament is symbolic of happiness and joy. A heart ornament denotes the presence of true love in the home. Because it comes from the sacred oak tree, an acorn ornament represents the gift of life from the birth of the Christ child and represents good luck. Christmas is a season of joy, gift-giving, and family reunion; when we live Christmas every day, peace on earth will be permanent. One who does not have Christmas in his or her heart will never find it under a tree. My Christmas memories gather and dance like snowflakes, each one beautiful, one-of-a-kind, and gone far too soon. Christmas isn't just a day; it's a state of mind that pervades our homes and lives long after the tree has been removed and the lights have been turned off for another year. Christmas is a time of fellowship, feasting, giving and receiving, good cheer, and honour. Have a wonderful eve as time and love are the real gifts of Magi of a truly Merry Christmas.

Jinnah's Birthday, also known as Quaid-e-Azam Day or Quaid Day, is a Pakistani public holiday celebrated annually on December 25 across the country to commemorate the birthday of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Pakistan's founder, known as Quaid-i-Azam ("Great Leader"). The event is primarily observed by the government and citizens of the country, with the national flag hoisted at major architectural structures such as private and public buildings, most notably the top of the Quaid-e-Azam House in Karachi. While the unified ritualistic event is usually attended by prominent leaders, military commanders, and citizens, all public and private sectors, including schools, colleges, and universities, remain closed to organize multiple events such as debates, seminars, and exhibitions at respective locations without being involved in office management. Jinnah's birthday is also considered a convenient date in Pakistan for both Christians and non-believers, as it coincides with the nearly universal observance of Christmas. It is one of the most important national holidays in Pakistan, and it is traditionally observed throughout the country. Pakistanis observe both holidays on December 25 because Christmas Day is celebrated on that day. In Pakistan, the Jinnahs were not a political family. Jinnah was a pivotal figure in the Pakistan Movement, which sought to establish Pakistan as a separate nation for Indian Muslims. Until it was dissolved by martial law in 1958, the family was the leader of the All-India Muslim League and its successor, the Muslim League. They were from a Gujarati Khoja family who moved to Karachi in the nineteenth century from Kathiawar in the Bombay Presidency.

73

On March 1940, he said “WOMAN IS MAN’S EQUAL, FRIEND AND COMRADE….” “No nation can rise to the height of glory unless your women are side by side with you.”

"I have always maintained that no nation can ever be worthy of its existence that cannot take with them their women.” He also said “There will never be a successful struggle if women do not participate alongside men. The world is divided into two powers. The sword represents one, and the pen represents the other. The two have a lot of competition and rivalry. There is a third power that is more powerful than both. That is the lady. Woman, and only woman, can teach man how and when to use a sword or a pen when the occasion calls for it. The Muslim League is well aware of the critical importance of bringing their women along with them in order for them to participate in the national struggle. We formed an All India Women's Central Committee in Patna. I've been following their efforts, difficulties, and obstacles for the past 15 months. Despite this, the Committee has made significant progress. You young ladies have it better than your mothers.” Message of Quaid-e-Azam for the beautiful nation.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND FALLING IN LOVE

TANU VATSA AGGARWAL ARTICLE BY

Ever wondered why the sky is bluer when you are falling in love? Recently, I have had the wonderful experience of watching a close friend fall in love. She smiles when she talks about her mate, or talks about him at random times—evidence that she is thinking about him a great deal. I could not be more delighted for her. Within a few days, it started to happen to another friend of mine, too, with the same sort of reaction—although in her case, it was accompanied by a loss of appetite. And then, a few more people reported via Facebook that they had fallen in love with someone. I was initially surprised by the fact that so many people are falling in love around me, despite it being winter. Some scholars have speculated that the best time to find lasting love is the fall, with summer being the best time to find short-term relationships. Winter, they argue, is a difficult time to find someone because many of us reduce our activities, as well as wear less revealing clothing. Many people also have decreased mood, due to less (and weaker) sunlight. (I should mention that in the case of my love-stricken friends, all of them live in a place where there are currently freezing temperatures.) Being around people who are falling in love is fun (partly because under normal conditions, these people might not act so silly), but it can also be depressing, especially if one is in an unsatisfying relationship. Social comparison can be a nasty part of human nature. (I will comment more about this in a subsequent post.) Although people experience love differently, the chemistry behind the initial rush of attraction shows us that there are biological explanations to feeling giddy, for example, during those blissful early weeks. To start with, dopamine, which is created in the brain and adrenal glands, enhances the release of testosterone. Dopamine affects various organs, including the genitals and the sweat glands, as well as the senses. Have you ever noticed that

when you are in the early stages of lust or love, you sweat more? Or that the sky seems bluer? Dopamine, in this context of arousal, is partly responsible. As a consequence of dopamine being released, mood and emotions are also influenced, leading to feelings of excitement and happiness. Meanwhile, testosterone increases sexual desire, but also increases aggressive behavior and may push someone to pursue the one who is fueling this intense response. After this step, the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and PEA (phenylethylamine) lead to focused attention. Individuals start to "zero-in" on the person they desire, and at the same time, often have a feeling of euphoria. Norepinephrine is a stimulant, so it also causes individuals to feel alert, potentially unable to sleep, and enables them to notice and remember even the smallest of details about their partners. PEA is responsible for the feelings of giddiness, and may cause a loss of appetite. If the relationship doesn’t last, PEA levels fall and are partly responsible for the feelings of depression that can be experienced. A feedback loop begins to form, and the brain's reward system becomes involved. This reward system is influenced by the central nervous system and the contents of the bloodstream, such as the level of various neurotransmitters. The reward system sends chemical messages, via neurotransmitters, to various parts of the body, including the stomach, skin, genitals and other organs, which causes them to send messages back to the brain. To phrase it simplistically, if stimulation of the genitals feels good, for example, then the reward system receives this information and causes one to seek more of what was pleasurable. Interestingly, anticipation alone can cause a biological response and stimulate the reward system. During the initial stages of love or lust, this reward system is stimulated through very simple means; a lover’s touch, seeing their photograph, or even just thinking about this person can increase elevated mood and

focused attention. Helen Fisher and colleagues (2005) found that when the brains of those who state they are passionately in love are scanned by an fMRI, the reward system is activated. Where the relationship goes from here becomes increasingly complicated. Some might fear the possibility of rejection, which overrides their enjoyment of falling in love. Others may be scared about committing to the relationship, or be overly needy and clingy—and, as a result, drive their lover away. Some may dive in, secure in their hopes that this might be the relationship that lasts. These patterns are thought to start in the early stages of development, and reflect the parent-child relationship. This early relationship, although not romantic, teaches us about how relationships work, what we can expect of others, and whether relationships—of any kind—are worthwhile Although there are many benefits of being single, there is no denying that falling in love is an intense time, and one that most of us find exhilarating. The next time someone you know starts to comment on the smell of the outdoors being more refreshing than usual, or you notice they grin when staring at a photograph of someone they are dating, enjoy the show—and know that they are possibly falling in love.

The Gregorian calendar places New Year's Eve, the year's final day, on December, 31. In many countries, New Year's Eve is celebrated with evening parties where people dance, eat, drink, and watch or light fireworks. Civilizations all over the world have celebrated the start of each New Year for at least four millennia. Today, most New Year's Eve celebrations begin on December 31 (New Year's Eve), the last day of the Gregorian calendar, and continue until the early hours of January 1 (New Year's Day). Attending New Year's Eve parties, eating special New Year's foods, making New Year's resolutions, and watching fireworks displays are all common customs. January 1 is designated as New Year's Day. According to tradition, the early Roman calendar consisted of 10 months or 304 days, with each New Year beginning at the vernal equinox. It was created by Romulus, the founder of Rome, in the eighth century B.C. Numa Pompilius, a later king, is credited with adding the months of January and February. The calendar became out of sync with the sun over the centuries, and in 46 B.C., Emperor Julius Caesar decided to solve the problem by consulting with the most prominent astronomers and mathematicians of the time. He established the Julian calendar, which closely resembles the more modern Gregorian calendar, which is used by the majority of countries around the world today. Caesar instituted January 1 as the first day of the year as part of his reform, partly to honor the month's namesake Janus, the Roman god of beginnings, whose two faces allowed him to look back in time and forward in time. Romans celebrated by making sacrifices to Janus, exchanging gifts, decorating their homes with laurel branches, and throwing wild parties. In mediaeval Europe, Christian leaders temporarily replaced January 1 as the first day of the year with days of greater religious significance, such as December 25 the anniversary of Jesus' birth) and March 25 (the anniversary of the Crucifixion) the Feast of the Annunciation) In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII reinstituted January 1 as New Year's Day.

New Year’s Traditions and Celebrations In many countries, New Year's Eve celebrations begin on December 31, and last until the early hours of January 1. Party goers frequently consume meals and snacks thought to bring good fortune in the coming year. People in Spain and several other Spanish-speaking countries eat a dozen grapes right before midnight, symbolizing their hopes for the months ahead. Traditional New Year's dishes in many parts of the world include legumes, which are thought to resemble coins and herald future financial success; examples include lentils in Italy and black-eyed peas in the southern United States. Pork is served on New Year's Eve tables in Cuba, Austria, Hungary, Portugal, and other countries because pigs represent progress and prosperity in some cultures. In the Netherlands, Mexico, Greece, and elsewhere, ring-shaped cakes and pastries, a sign that the year has come full circle, round out the feast. Meanwhile, on New Year's Eve in Sweden and Norway, rice pudding with an almond hidden inside is served; it is said that whoever finds the nut will have a year of good fortune. Watching fireworks and singing songs to welcome the New Year are also common worldwide customs, including the ever-popular "Auld Lang Syne" in many English-speaking countries. The practice of making New Year's resolutions is thought to have originated with the ancient Babylonians, who made promises in order to gain the favour of the gods and begin the year on the right foot. (They would allegedly promise to repay debts and return borrowed farm equipment.) The most famous New Year's Eve tradition in the United States is the midnight drop of a massive ball in New York City's Times Square. Millions of people around the world tune in to watch the event, which has occurred nearly every year since 1907. The ball itself has grown from a 700-pound iron-and-wood orb to a brightly patterned sphere 12 feet in diameter and weighing nearly 12,000 pounds over time. Various towns and cities across the United States have developed their own versions of the Times Square ritual, organising public drops of items ranging from pickles (Dillsburg, Pennsylvania) to possums (Tallapoosa, Georgia) at midnight on New Year's Eve. Eve has been used to refer to the evening before an event, usually a holiday, since the 1300s. New Year's Eve (December 31) is the day before New Year's Day (January 1), so New Year's Eve (December 30) is the day before New Year's Eve (December 31). People may observe New Year's Eve in order to get in the mood for New Year's Eve. New Year’s Eve message "Here's to a bright New Year and a fond farewell to the old; here's to what's yet to come and to the memories we cherish." "Have a prosperous New Year!" "I wish you a happy and healthy New Year." "May the coming year, bring your health, wealth, and happiness."

Ways to incorporate the practice into your life: Anger, fear, and grief have always been part of our lives and affected the way we work, but rarely as much as during a global pandemic. So this is the right time to start practicing mindfulness if not done earlier. What is mindfulness? Mindfulness introduces intention and awareness to otherwise mundane activities and sensations. Mindfulness stems from centuries old Buddhist teachings regarding the nature of the mind. Mindfulness manifests itself in various ways- tai chi, yoga and meditation are all forms of mindfulness. It’s most impactful, however, when practiced consistently and regularly. Mindfulness: Why it Matters

97

Is there a need for me to be mindful? Mindfulness is the practice of purposely focusing your attention on the present moment and accepting it without any judgement. Mindfulness is now being examined scientifically & has been found to be a key element in stress reduction and overall happiness. Stress is rooted in fear, which is one of the two core human emotions as per latest studies & the other one being love and so mindfulness comes in as a compassionate means of relaxing the body. What forms of mindfulness can be used: Very important components of mindfulness include elements of love and compassion for oneself & others. Practicing self-compassion in meditation, for example, may look like the mind wandering from the present moment with thoughts about the day & then gently reminding oneself to come back to focus without judgement for being distracted. Medication can feel really overwhelming for people who will be practicing this new as they might feel that they need to focus on their thoughts for an hour or so. But it can be as short as five minutes too to focus on one’s thoughts as it might look really different for every person. Yoga can be practiced by focusing on one’s breath as it brings the complete attention into the present moment of one’s mind & body rather on focusing on the to do list for the day or the current pressure going on in life. Other components may include acceptance, gratitude and letting go of self-judgement and expectations & paying attention to one’s present and forgiving and forgetting the past. Just take a moment to breathe in your own space, in your own body and it can really make a big difference detoxing from the anxiety & stress in our lives.

In a recent survey done by Verify Markets with Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons, aging skin showed up as the primary concern for all ethnicities; how that manifests can change by ethnicity. As per a dermatologist interviewed “When we are young, the collagen and elastin are the two main components that keep our skin looking young. As one starts aging, these components become less. The hydration of the skin, the hyaluronic acid which is a natural glucosamine glycine in the body and the skin that holds water that maintains that youthful look becomes less as we age. Any product that can enhance the hydration of the skin, that’s a good moisturizer with the hyaluronic acid and can take care of the textural and pigment changes, like vitamin C and pure antioxidants. Wrinkles and pigmentation are the top two concerns within aging, respectively. The second most common skin concern was pigment issues (both from aging and other sources like sun exposure or genetics) and the third most common concern was acne.” Some recommendations provided by plastic surgeons in lieu of surgery include: Sunscreen to prevent early aging Hydroquinone for pigment issues Tretinoin/Retin-A/Concentrated Vitamin A for fine wrinkles and acne Concentrated Vitamin C for skin brightening Benzoyl peroxide for acne Hyaluronic acid for moisturizing and hydration Other natural ways to prevent early aging include applying Aloe Vera/ banana masks, applying essential oils mixed with carrier oils, consuming superfoods (ginger, avocadoes, tomatoes, egg whites, chia seeds, cinnamon, walnuts, olive oil, and others). Additionally, consuming foods rich in zinc, selenium, and probiotics prevents early aging – notes Shilpa Tiku, Chief Research Officer and Partner at Verify Markets.
