Our Real-Life Superhero

Did you know that we have our own superhero working here at Dellutri Law Group? His name is Joe LoTempio.

We call Joe “Captain America” not only because he’s a champion of the people, but because he is a Marvel fanatic. Joe has turned our whole firm into Marvel fans, and we can all agree that his career fits right in with his love of comic books and superheroes. Joe will always be a defender of the people because of his big heart and his willingness to lend a hand. He has a never-say-die attitude, which is why he has been so successful in consumer law. We all love talking to Joe about Marvel movies; he’s got us so invested that the whole firm waits for new movies with bated breath. If we weren’t nerds before, we are now! I came into the Marvel scene pretty late, and it’s all thanks to Joe that I am a fan at all. I have spent the last two years learning about the Marvel Universe, and I’ve got to say, I love the “Guardians of the Galaxy” series. Before Joe, I had watched some Marvel movies, and I did enjoy them for the most part, but I had never been able to put all the stories together. After many long conversations with Joe, I’m now able to fully understand the comic books, and I can follow the movies closely with a deeper appreciation of the storyline. of the final Infinity Stone, which has yet to be uncovered in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Joe explained some internet theories to me, but his own theory is much different. Unfortunately, I can’t share Joe’s theory with you because I was sworn to secrecy. We will have to watch the upcoming Marvel films, starting with November’s “Thor: Ragnarok,” to see where that last Infinity Stone turns up! Thank you, Joe, for all that you do at Dellutri Law Group. We appreciate your big heart, work ethic, and love for people. You are essential to our team. Now, watching Marvel movies takes me to a whole new universe. Recently, Joe and I have been debating the location

Joe is originally from New York. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from St. John Fisher College, and from there, he went on to receive his Juris Doctor from the Ave Maria School of Law. Now, Joe is Dellutri Law Group’s consumer protections superhero and has been with our firm for almost six years. He has a passion for standing up for those who need a voice, protection, and justice after being taken advantage of, so it’s no wonder he decided to go into consumer law. He loves protecting consumers from insurance and mortgage companies, other law firms, and debt collectors and homeowners associations. Joe’s Robin Hood mentality makes him especially keen on consumer law, and his ventures have taken him to state and federal courts, bankruptcy courts, and appellate courts, including the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.

And ladies: He’s single!

Drugged Driving by Truckers Poses Serious Safety Risk

Truck drivers operate vehicles that weigh up to 80,000 pounds and can be over 100 feet in length. Therefore, drivers need all of their focus to safely navigate our roadways. Unfortunately, the pressure to stay awake and deliver loads on time can lead drivers to use stimulants and other drugs. Drugged driving is proven to slow reaction time, decrease motor skills, and impair judgment, much like drunk driving. To help deter drug use, federal regulations require trucking companies to regularly test their drivers for alcohol and drugs. Tests must be performed prior to employment, after a serious accident, and periodically throughout the year. The tests look for alcohol as well as marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP, and amphetamines. While most carriers and truck operators follow the rules, compliance failures are still common. In 2012, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration removed 287 commercial bus and truck drivers from the roads as a result of its annual drug and alcohol strike force sweep. The enforcement effort involved verification of the drug and alcohol safety records of commercial drivers to identify violations of federal drug and alcohol testing requirements. It also sought out truck drivers who switched jobs to evade testing. This is a scary reminder for all of our Florida clients. Many of us make heavy use of the interstate system here. According to the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles site, of the accidents in 2015, regardless of reason, there was a whopping 4,812 people who ended up with a personal injury resulting from an accident with a truck. We want to remind all of you to be diligent when driving, as accidents can happen at a moment’s notice!

“I was very nervous and even embarrassed to have to file for bankruptcy. A close friend of mine recommended Dellutri Law Group. From the moment I walked in the door, I felt comfortable. The entire staff was very welcoming and friendly. I spoke directly with Carmen initially, and he was exceptional. He is extremely knowledgeable, kind, and genuine. He was reassuring and eliminated any fears and embarrassing feelings that I had. I would absolutely recommend this law group to anyone who is seeking help! Thank you to everyone at Dellutri Law Group!”

Business Spotlight

TOYS FOR TOTS

We know that it is only October, but December will be here before we know it! Each year, our Fort Myers office participates in Toys for Tots, and we are proud to be an official drop-off location! It is certainly one of our favorite events of the year, with enthusiastic participation from our staff. Year after year, our clients and neighbors outdo themselves. It’s fun to load the SUVs and pickup trucks to the max and drive them down to the sorting station in our own mini Dellutri Law Group caravan. Who knows for 2017, though? If we can collect enough gifts, maybe we will just deliver them in the Dellutri double-decker bus! Please help us make that a reality!

Spotlight on

Refried Bean Poblanos With Cheese

Janice Kelly has been a part of our office for the last 14 years, and she has been a legal assistant in our personal injury department for many of those years. In case you haven’t noticed a trend in the last couple months, we have a team that we like to call “The Lifers” here. Many of our employees have been here for more than 10 years and we love it (and them!).

Ingredients • 4 medium poblano chilies, halved and seeded

• ½ cup picante sauce

• 1 cup (4 ounces) pre- shredded reduced-fat 4-cheese Mexican blend • Chopped fresh cilantro (optional)

• 1 (16-ounce) can fat-free refried beans

Janice Kelly

• 1 (8.8-ounce) pouch microwaveable cooked long- grain rice

In fact, you may remember last month we spotlighted Ronnie Fedorczyk from our bankruptcy department. We thought this was a fun picture to include this month since they both started with us as our receptionists 14 years ago. In an off chance, we managed to catch them both up front together again recently. Janice is an extremely important member of our personal injury team. She is often the first to deal with clients and/ or potential clients. Janice has a way of making each person know they are not alone and that it is not their fault. Her calm and understanding demeanor make her a crowd favorite. We often get compliments and emails about the care Janice gives to each client. Thank you, Janice!

Directions 1. Place chili halves, cut sides up, on a round microwave-safe plate. Cover with wax paper; microwave on high 3 minutes. 2. While chilies cook, combine beans, rice, and picante sauce in a medium bowl, stirring well. Spoon bean mixture into chili halves. Cover with wax paper; microwave on high 2 minutes. 3. Uncover chilies, sprinkle each half with 2 tablespoons cheese, and microwave on high 1–2 minutes or until cheese melts. Sprinkle with cilantro, if desired.

Do You Even Macro?

COUNT MACROS FOR MORE PERSONALIZED WEIGHT LOSS DO YOU EVEN MACRO?

Dream up your favorite food. Now, think about the last time you ate it. Is it rich, delectable, and a food you avoid so you can fit into your pants? What if there was a diet that made room for it and still allowed you to lose weight? Welcome to the wonderful world of macro dieting. It’s all about balancing the food we eat with our lifestyle and genetic makeup. Often referred to as IIFM (If It Fits Your Macros), macro diets are one of the hottest — and most flexible — nutrition plans out there. Remember the food pyramid? Macro diets recall that straightforward figure. They focus on the three macronutrients we get from food: protein, carbohydrates, and fat. These three nutrients are distributed according to a ratio of how much you’ll consume on a given day.

with its breakdown of calories. The exact ratio varies according to your metabolism, activity level, and goals. Your macros might be 40 percent protein, 40 percent carbohydrates, 20 percent fat, or 50 percent protein, 25 percent carbohydrates, 25 percent fat. What’s the benefit of this extra calculation? Whereas many diets generalize calories into one number, the macro approaches them more holistically. Not only does it take into account your weight, but it also bases your macros on your energy use (most often using your basal metabolic rate, or BMR). Basically, the macro approach is more personal. Need help tracking your macros? There are a number of apps out there that offer to count them for you. Some even allow you to scan food labels at the store. On top of that, many trainers offer these services. All of these options can help

you reach your macro goals and still give you time to go on a run. Like any diet, there are weaknesses. The macro diet offers a lot of flexibility, but if you eat ice cream for dinner, even if it fits your macros, you’ll probably have a tougher time getting to the gym and halting your Netflix binge. When it comes to this diet, you’ll need to choose the foods that make up your protein- carbohydrate-fat ratio. Consulting a nutritionist can be a great way to determine what macros will help you feel your best.

Unlike similar counting-based diet plans, the macro diet gets personal
