October 2020 Keeping You Dri

IT’S MIDNIGHT … DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR ROOFER IS?

CALL OUR EMERGENCY LEAK RESPONSE TEAM

“Normal business hours” can be hard to define because they’re often determined on a business-by-business basis. A doughnut shop’s normal hours might be 5 a.m. to noon, while a bar’s hours are 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. And then you have your standard 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. offices. But in Southern Nevada, things are a little different. That’s because we’re home to Las Vegas, the city that never sleeps. Las Vegas thrives on businesses that never close and that have some of their most active hours late at night. Where, then, should these businesses turn when midnight rolls around and suddenly, their roof has sprung a leak? What should they do when their business hours don’t align with most other business hours? Wait around for more and more damage to be done until their roofer opens shop again? Not if Dri Tech Corp has something to say about it! Our emergency leak response team exists for this very reason — so that

your business isn’t left in jeopardy when something goes wrong — no matter the time of day or night. And almost any business owner (or building manager) will tell you that if something goes wrong, it always seems to go wrong at the most inconvenient time. Roof leaks aren’t given a lot of thought by other roofing companies and the businesses they serve in Southern Nevada because this area only gets about 4 inches of rain per year. But even a small amount of rain infiltrating a building can be a game-changer for a business, and not in a good way. A leak can cause damage to the building exterior, interior, and inventory. When a leak is severe enough, the business will probably need to shut down (or at least scale down) until the problem is fixed, which means revenue is damaged, too. If the problem is left unaddressed until normal business hours resume, it could mean the difference in $2,000 of damage versus $25,000 of damage. It happens that fast.

That’s why Dri Tech Corp has an emergency leak response team that you can contact any time, day or night, when you need a problem fixed and fixed fast. Even at 2 a.m., your call is routed to our nighttime operators who take down your information, then get it to the technicians on our team who can help. We can typically have a technician on-site within an hour after your call, ready to fix your leak and get your business back up to speed. We are the premier commercial roofing company in Southern Nevada for many reasons, but one that sets us apart is our ability to respond to these kinds of emergencies at any time of day. Most other companies don’t offer this service because they don’t have the means or the desire to help you with your emergency repairs in the middle of the night. We are fully equipped to be there for you when you need us because we know that leaks don’t happen when it’s convenient. You may have never had to make that disastrous 2 a.m. call before, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t know where to turn just in case one does become necessary. So, know that you can call Dri Tech Corp at 702- 220-3401 or reach out to our sevice email [email protected] at any time of day or night. We’ve got you covered.

HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR INDOOR HUMIDITY LATELY?

won’t help because not all allergy-like symptoms are caused by true allergies. Dryness can also worsen the symptoms of asthma or existing allergies. Is high humidity better? Not necessarily. Too much moisture can make your home a breeding ground for mildew, mold, dust mites, bacteria, and more. These allergens can become irritants as they circulate through your home’s ventilation system. They can even multiply into colonies within hours. Naturally, high humidity can also crack and destroy the wood in your house, like your home’s framing, hardwood flooring, furniture, and musical instruments, which require expensive repairs. What do I do now? If you’re struggling to get the right humidity levels in individual rooms, put portable devices to work. For your whole house, though, humidifiers and dehumidifiers can be installed in your HVAC system! This is a convenient fix, and with a whole-home humidifier linked to a smart thermostat, you’ll never have to worry about missing out on the perfect, healthy humidity level for your home and family. THE NOT-SO-SECRET SECRET TO A HEALTHY HOME

Sometimes, the best way to keep your family healthy, your indoor air quality high, and your skin hydrated isn’t found in a complicated solution. It’s found in the relative humidity of your home. When was the last time you checked your indoor humidity? How do you know if your house is too humid or too dry? What should I check for? Hygrometers — devices used to measure humidity — are very inexpensive, easily found at a local or online retailer, and can help you save money in the long run. According to the Mayo Clinic, the ideal range for relative humidity levels is between 30%–50%. Keep in mind that many air conditioners remove humidity, since nobody wants to deal with lingering summer heat and humidity. However, they commonly remove too much moisture and could be the culprit if your indoor humidity is lower than the ideal range. What if it’s too dry? It’s common for dry indoor air to irritate your throat and sinuses and lead to sneezing and congestion, which causes people to believe they have allergies. However, it could actually be what some doctors call nonallergic rhinitis. Typical allergy treatments

The Wynn Las Vegas hotel has partnered with Tenaya Creek Brewery to craft a brand-new beer and will donate all proceeds to charity. The new premium lager is called the Singing Frog, and the revenues from every purchase will go directly to Three Square Food Bank. THANK YOU TO OUR GOLDEN KNIGHTS

It’s no secret to any Vegas Golden Knights fans by now that — after a season of more

ups, downs, starts, and stops than anyone could have anticipated — our Knights were knocked out of the Western Conference playoffs after an overtime loss to the Dallas Stars in Game 5. We’ve had our time to mourn the defeat, which means now it’s time to say thank you. Thank you to the VGK for giving us another season to continue cheering for even when the world was turned upside down. Thank you for being willing to spend 51 days in a quarantine bubble in Edmonton, Canada,

during the playoffs. And thank you for fighting valiantly for a title we all wanted, even though we couldn’t all be there to help you win it. We are so proud of the Vegas Golden Knights for making it as far as they did this crazy season. Now it’s time to start gearing up for the next one!

When ‘Star Wars’ Invaded Halloween

THE SPOOKY ‘STAR WARS’ SHORTAGE OF 1977

A long time ago … in October of 1977 to be exact, Halloween was fast approaching and many parents faced a major dilemma. That year, kids didn’t want to go trick-or-treating dressed as vampires, witches, or ghosts. The classic costumes simply wouldn’t do. That Halloween, almost every child in the United States wanted to dress as their favorite character from the new hit movie, “Star Wars.” Today, you can walk into a Halloween City on Oct. 30 and easily pick up a costume for Rey, Darth Vader, or Princess Leia. But in 1977, less than five months after the release of the first movie in the popular franchise, getting your hands on “Star Wars” merchandise was a bit more difficult. Ben Cooper, a costume company in Brooklyn, had the foresight to license “Star Wars” for costumes right after the movie came out. Unfortunately, they didn’t foresee how great the demand for these costumes would be. Retailers across the country were selling out of “Star Wars” costumes as fast as they came in. Some stores reported selling more “Star Wars” costumes than pumpkins. Kids who got their hands on an authentic Han Solo or C-3PO costume were considered lucky. But kids who

arrived at the store to find the costume shelves empty didn’t throw in the towel. Instead, they went and found some brown towels to make their own Chewbacca costumes. In the current age of cosplay, homemade costumes based on movie characters are commonplace, but in 1977, this was uncharted territory. Kids searched for white dresses to be Princess Leia and bathrobes they could cut short to mimic Luke Skywalker. Moms everywhere broke out their sewing machines and created costumes using only action figures for reference. It was grueling work, but it showed how much kids wanted to spend Halloween in a galaxy far, far away. The “Star Wars” costume shortage marked a new era for Halloween — one where making your own costume was just as cool, if not better, than buying it.
