We Can Learn From College Basketball Coaches MARCH TO A MILLION MADNESS
As we approach March Madness, I look back at an interview I listened to with John Wooden, former head coach of UCLA’s men’s basketball team. He talked about how he has influenced his former players, his coaching philosophy, and how those principles impacted him and his teams.
This interview and the upcoming tournaments got me thinking about Duke University’s men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski
(Coach K) and how this 2021-2022 season is his final year of coaching. He has been coaching at Duke for 40 years, and even if you’re not a fan of Duke, there is a ton of respect for Coach K. He has represented himself with humbleness and grace throughout his entire career. He has also impacted millions of lives, on and off the court. When looking at who is the most successful college basketball coach, the list is very short. Some prominent names are Krzyzewski, John Wooden, Bob Knight, and Dean Smith. These men have a philosophy to coaching that we can use in
“If you always focus on what you
don’t get rather than enjoying the journey you’re on and celebrating your gains, you’re depriving yourself of a lifetime of joy.”
There’s a saying in basketball when you give it your all that you “leave it all on the court.” We can use that same principle when looking at our lives and the standards we set for ourselves. It can be easy to focus on what we haven’t accomplished or look at how much further we need to go. But it’s essential to look at everything you’ve done and how far you have come. Setting goals for ourselves helps us lay out a vision and direction we need to go. But if you always focus on what you don’t get rather than enjoying the journey you’re on and celebrating your gains, you’re depriving yourself of a lifetime of joy. We can use these great coaches’ teachings in all walks of life, not just for sports. The values and philosophies used within coaching can be modified to fit our own personal and professional goals. As I march to impact one million lives, I keep these principles in mind. Even if we don’t root for their teams as they pursue a national championship, we have to respect these coaches because they hold themselves with class and dignity no matter if they win or lose. There’s more to life than basketball, and the lessons players learn can stay with them after they leave the game. These fundamentals can also impact us as viewers to try our best each day.
reaching our goals. They focus on constant improvement and have a never-ending focus on the small details and the fundamentals. This philosophy further explains that you need to have a sense of ownership with your goals. Within basketball, this means you have to be emotionally invested in your team’s goals and feel like you’re a part of something more than just being on the roster. This sense of ownership is something that we can use in our everyday lives. As I march to impact one million people, I invest myself in my goal. I take ownership of this movement by understanding my core values and what I have to accomplish to reach this achievement. Coach K perfectly explained the five qualities you need in order to succeed: communication, trust, responsibility, caring, and pride. Although these qualities are important on their own, together, they create an unbeatable team. When looking at your goals, these fundamentals provide you with the tools you need to make your goals achievable — these tactics have helped me in my March to a Million.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT: CHANDRA KORBAS, LITIGATION LEGAL ASSISTANT
What is your favorite part of your job? My favorite part about working at the Law Offices of DuPont and Blumenstiel is working in a team environment. We are very intentional about supporting each other and helping each other to be the best at what our individual roles are. I greatly appreciate the help I’ve received from my coworkers as I’ve come into this legal assistant role and enjoy my part in our cohesive unit. We strive to treat our clients and each other with respect and dignity. Describe your career path before you started working here. I came to the Law Offices of DuPont & Blumenstiel in September 2021 after a career in education, where I specialized in literacy, language development, and reading instruction. The last 15 years of my career were in a kindergarten classroom. As it became time
for me to retire from my career in education, I realized that my skill set and interests would align themselves well to a career in the law. What motivates you to get up and go to work every day?
I am motivated to come to work by a desire to learn and a desire to help improve the lives of other people. I am also intrinsically motivated by the desire to make a difference in people’s lives. I find joy when, at the end of the day, my participation in a legal case, or in someone’s life in general, made a difference and helped them to move forward in a positive manner.
WE APPRECIATE YOU
We want to use this space to express our gratitude to the following members of the community who have recently left us a review or have referred someone to our care. Thank you!

Let Us File Your Taxes for Half of What You Paid Last Year
In efforts to provide the highest level of service to our friends and clients, I wanted to make sure you knew of a valuable service we offer. In addition to DuPont Wealth Solutions, I also own a very successful tax preparation and comprehensive tax planning firm, Ohio Tax Planning Advocates, Ltd. , which utilizes highly skilled tax professionals to protect you and your family from paying more than your fair share. We strive to level the playing field and maybe even tilt it in your favor, legally and ethically. Ohio Tax Planning Advocates isn’t your run-of- the-mill tax preparer. Our meetings go beyond such standard advice as “max out your 401(k)” and “contribute to an IRA.” We work with a carefully vetted team of tax professionals and CPAs from across the country to help proactively plan better tax outcomes for our clients . Through this effort, we can often lower future tax liabilities and, as a result, provide a more coordinated tax, estate planning, and retirement income planning process. We believe these three goals must work in harmony to achieve the right results. Wouldn’t you agree?
As government spending has climbed to an unprecedented level, the Internal Revenue Service is getting more aggressive than ever in its search for funds. Without proactive tax guidance, your income and savings are left vulnerable to Uncle Sam.
Did you know ...
• The top 1% of all taxpayers (those with Adjusted Gross Income over $540,000) pay 40.1% of all federal income taxes. • The top 5% of all taxpayers (those with Adjusted Gross Income over $217,000) pay 60.3% of all federal income taxes. • The top 10% of all taxpayers (those with Adjusted Gross Income over $151,935) pay 71.4% of all federal income taxes. When the Internal Revenue Service comes looking for more revenue, will they be looking at wage earners in the top 50% or the bottom 50%? You need to prepare now.
These services may benefit you regardless of whether you are a business owner, a regular wage employee, or a retiree. I have found that there are almost always tax planning opportunities for anyone who pays tax. Don’t let the fact that you get a refund hide the amount of taxes you have paid. At this time of year, many people are considering whether they should do their taxes themselves or perhaps change their tax preparer. If you are contemplating such a change, we would like to make a special limited-time introductory offer. Our team will prepare your 2021 tax return for 1/2 the fee you paid a professional preparer to prepare your 2020 tax return. If you prepared your 2020 tax return yourself, we will prepare your 2021 1040 and one state return for $279. When that return is complete, we will also conduct a complimentary review to determine what, if any, changes could be made to reduce your future tax obligations. With a few exceptions, it’s too late to change your tax outcomes for this past year, but if you want to get a jump-start on THIS year’s savings, see us NOW.
firefighters. To take advantage of this reduced- rate offer, you have to provide us 15 minutes of your time and complete information for your return by April 1. With any request for us to file after April 1, we will file for extensions and charge our standard rates. Is potentially saving thousands of dollars in taxes now and in the future a priority for you? If so, call us at 614.414.3616 to get started now.
P.S. As with all the services we provide at DuPont Wealth Solutions and DuPont and Blumenstiel, our offers to you extend to your family and close friends as a courtesy to you. So, if you don’t think you will benefit from this offer but know someone who may, feel free to let us know and we will treat them with the same level of expertise and care you have grown to expect.
This is a limited-time introductory offer. We are proactive planners and not last-minute

ENJOY WARMWEATHER WHILE STUCK INDOORS
The weather is warming up, the sun is out — and you’re trapped inside. Most of us have jobs that leave us stuck indoors during spring’s prime midday hours, and it’s easy to feel like you’re missing out on the season’s best parts.
decrease stress, and having them on your desk might also trick your brain into feeling less cooped up.
Take a break. You’ve still got to work, but that doesn’t mean you can’t sneak in a few minutes outdoors. Use your break for an outdoor stroll; if possible, you can also walk or bike to work. At the very least, park farther away to give yourself time to enjoy the weather. Volunteer to do a coffee run, pick up lunch, or take out the mail — you’ll be an office hero while catching some rays at the same time. Try working outside. If your boss will allow it, there’s probably some opportunity to do a bit of work outdoors. Meetings and conference calls might offer your best option. For in-person meetings, your coworkers will also likely relish a chance to take it outdoors. In the event of a conference call, you won’t need to convince anyone else — grab your laptop and go! It’s not the same as enjoying the weather while you’re off the clock, but it’s a lot better than being cooped up inside.
Unfortunately, your boss probably won’t give you the day off just because of the gorgeous weather. So, we’ve compiled the next best thing — some tips to enjoy the season as much as you can while also getting your job done. Bring the outdoors in. When the weather is nice, open as many curtains and blinds as possible. The natural light will warm up the room and brighten your mood. While you’re at it, try opening the windows and positioning yourself near one. If you can’t be outside, the spring breeze on your face is the next best thing. Plants
With any luck, these tips will help you make it to Friday with your sanity intact. And luckily, the weekend is always just around the corner.
