tremes. Thanks to the ongoing 60s and 70s revival, there is a healthy mix of mod and flower-child. An ode to Mary Quant, Miu Miu debuted the micro mini-skirt in their fall col- lection this year, which has trickled down into ready-to-wear. Conversely, long, flowy sun- dresses are at their peak this season. A long- ing for idealistic escapism, following so many months inside, has prompted fairytale-esq maxi dresses, with ruffles or dramatic hems. Combined with the popular colors and fab- rics of this season, romantic dresses are dominating. Typically midi or maxi length, these dresses often come in shades of blush and cream with a fitted top, loose skirt, and feminine details. The fitted top, either ribbed or ruched, is a natural progression from the brief, but intense corset craze. Play into the romanticism of these dresses with a pair of chunky 90s platform sandals or flip-flops. While these shoes are hyper-feminine, they have a harsher edge than the elegant dress, creating a fun contrast. These dresses, of course, go well with gra- nola sandals and chunky flip-flops, but, on cooler evenings, a brown pair of walking boots would pair just as well. The ankle height, low heel, and laces toughen up the overall softness of the look. This summer is favoring an idealized vision of sun-bleached days and endless greenery. Dress like you’re prepared to sprawl out un- der a perfectly blue sky and you’ll be perfectly on-trend.

Tossing on a dress and flouncing off is the pinnacle of summer ease. With the hottest months fully upon us, much of your wardrobe may be solidified, but you

may always need an extra dress for your va- cation or want to spruce up something you already have. The overall visual vibe of this summer is a polished, heavily curated bohemian. Creamy whites and soft neutrals with licks of burnt orange, powder pink, and sage green com- pose the dreamy palate of this summer. Breezy fabrics like cotton and linen are pop- ular, as are homemade crochet dresses. A lovely effect of quarantine is how many peo- ple learned various crafting skills. Crochet and knitting took over youth-dominated plat- forms and fed into the ‘cottagecore aes- thetic’ that was so popular in 2020 and 2021. Currently, if you have picked up the skill and don’t wish to make an expensive purchase, some yarn, a pattern, and spare time in the evenings will allow you to make your own, unique dress. This floaty look embodies the cult of the Hamptons, with eyelet punched linen and Birkenstocks, and a Scandinavian chicness, all minimalist accessories and muted colors. This airless aesthetic gives off an effected coolness while maintaining that desired wist- ful dreaminess. Silhouette is a fundamental column behind every great aesthetic. This summer, the lengths of dresses have settled into polar ex-

Your wellness is up to you. How are you taking care of your health most of the time? People spend the majority of their week working. Whether you are working from home or heading to the of fi ce, this article is for you. Nature is nurturing. Bring mother nature to your of fi ce for calming and balance. Trees, plants and stones have negative ions which are bene- fi cial for our nervous system. Plants balance out humidity, cleanse the air and dampen noise. Keep windows open for soothing air fl ow and move- ment of stagnant energy. Consider an air puri fi er, especially if there are toxins in the workplace, (e.g., a hair salon with formaldehyde in beauty products). Crystals have healing pow- ers. They offset the radiation and bluelight which is in technology that ignites our sympathetic nervous sys- tem and causes us stress. You can never have too many crystals! Use blueblocker glasses and screen pro- tection too. Birthday celebrations are inevitable and with the bigger companies, this

Movement is key. Sitting is the new smoking. Get up every hour to stretch or walk. Lead standing meetings. If you have the ability to walk to work or bike ride, take advantage of that. Maybe take the stairs instead of the elevator. Or, park a little further from the building than you normally do to get in those extra steps. Get a glass bottle and ditch the plastic to avoid toxins. If you’re in charge of the water dis- penser at work, fi nd a company that delivers in glass bottles. Learn the signs of stress exhibited by co-workers. This is important be- cause the people physically close to us (for hours on end), affect us for better or worse. Energy fl ows and it is palpable. Mental health deserves attention. Extend a caring gesture and reach out. Helping others, helps you. Mindfulness is a beautiful practice that you can bring to work to help you. Take moments often to check-in with yourself. Take ten deep breaths, often, to reset your nervous system: in the car, at your desk, in a meeting, or in the bathroom. Just do it to bring any situation into a better perspective. It can keep you away from a state of reacting - which can be in fl ammatory to a state of responding - which can be productive.

UNWIND AT THE BEACH Coopers Beach –easily accessible from Southampton, is rated one of the best beaches in the US. With its soft and easy to walk-on white sand, this quiet beach has snacks, chairs/umbrella rentals, and lifeguards along with the perfect surfing waves. GO WINE TASTING Wölffer Estate Vineyard (perched between Southampton and Easthampton), has been committed to producing premium, distinctive wines, ciders, and spirits since 1988. Whether you enjoy a delicious wine tasting - paired with your favorite cheeses - or purchase a bottle for take home, you’ll be happy you stopped! VISIT THE MONTAUK LIGHTHOUSE Take a trip to “The End” to see the infamous Montauk Lighthouse , which offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. For a full tour of the historic site, plan your trip accordingly based on hours and dates of operation. Or, if you’re not looking to climb up 137 steps to the top, you can still explore the grounds and gift shop (open daily). ENJOY SOME SEAFOOD The retro styled seafood shack better known as, The Lobster Roll , has a huge LUNCH sign which makes it hard to miss when driving on Montauk Highway. They have two locations: one in Amagansett and one in Southampton. As the name says it all, if you’re looking for a legendary lobster roll, this is the place. On their menu you can find delicious lobster specialties, “Fish of the Day,” signature seafood classics and much more! BIKING This is the best way to explore all the small communities and their quaintness. Dune Road is a nice scenic route, as is Gin Lane in Southampton–both offering great water views and luxurious homes. Rotations Southampton is your “One-stop shop for everything cycling in the Hamptons,” providing bikes for all ages. www.rotationsbicyclecenter.com GO ON A HIKE The Quogue Wildlife Refuge is a 305-acre, non-profit nature preserve, which offers seven miles of trails that run through a network of forests, ponds, and a pine grove. Home to native New York animals (permanently injured wildlife that require human care for survival), you just might see bobcats, bald eagles, falcons, hawks, fox and other creatures on your visit.

Prep Time: 1 hr. Servings: 8 slices HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED: 9 OR 10-INCH PIE CRUST: 2 2/3 cup all-purpose fl our 1 stick unsalted butter, cold + ½ cup vegetable shortening (chilled) 1 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons sugar 6 - 8 tablespoons ice cold water or orange juice (maybe up to 8 depending on the weather) FOR THE FILLING: ½ cup sugar ¼ cup cornstarch A pinch to a teaspoon of cinnamon 1 teaspoon lemon juice 4 cups fresh blueberries (fresh is preferred, but frozen is fi ne too) 1 tablespoon butter cut into ½ inch pieces EGG WASH: 1 egg scrambled with 1 teaspoon water Beat one egg with water to make an egg wash Brush pie crust with egg wash just before baking HERE’S HOW YOU DO IT: THE DOUGH:

THE FILLING: In a large bowl, combine the sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and blueberries; let stand for 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Remove one disk from the fridge/freezer. Coat with fl our, and roll out dough (on a parchment paper covered surface), large enough to cover pie pan. You have two choices; you can fl ip the dough into the pan or roll the dough up on your rolling pin then roll it off into the pie pan. Gently shape your dough into the pan by lifting the sides so that it naturally falls into the bottom of the pie pan. Trim edges with a knife, and using a fork, puncture holes randomly (about 5 or 6 times), to vent crust. Pour the blueberry fi lling into pie pan lined with pie crust. Place butter pieces all around on top of the fi lling. Roll out second disk of dough and use as the top crust; trim the edges and properly vent the pie by cutting a 1-inch round hole in the center and add 1 ½ inch slits all around the top of the pie. Make sure pie is well vented or the fi lling will not thicken properly. Brush top of the pie with egg wash. Place pie on top of a cookie sheet lined with parchment into a 400-degree oven for about 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes; crust should be golden-brown.

Using your hands, rub the fi rst four ingredients together until the mixture is crumbly and still has some larger chunks of butter/vegetable shortening. Make a well in the center of the fl our/butter mixture; add to this approximately 6 - 8 tablespoons of ice water or orange juice. Start with 6 tablespoons and add remaining 2 if needed. Gently mix the water into fl our/butter mixture until a dough is formed. Roll it into 2 balls, fl atten into disks, wrap it in plastic wrap, and let it rest in the refrigerator for about an hour, or place in the freezer for 30 minutes.

As the summer warms up, the heat-loving crops begin producing in earnest. Chief among them are cucumbers, a home- garden staple, versatile in the kitchen. Here’s how to get the most from your harvest!

three-pronged approach to protect my crop while keeping things organic. 1.) Squash vine borer traps (hung nearby, per manufacturer instructions), to attract the moths before they’ve had a chance to lay eggs. 2.) Use Diatomaceous Earth regularly at the base of the plants to prevent hatching. 3.) Be vigilant in your visual inspection for and removal of eggs. Black pepper can be used as a substitute for Diatomaceous Earth in a pinch. Note: These borers also target zucchini, and these strategies work well.

To protect and maximize your crop:

Consider trellising: Keeping cucumber vines on a trellis, garden border fence, or even in a pot can save ground space, deter pests, and make harvesting much easier. Every year, I discover at least a couple monster cucumbers that have gone unnoticed behind a leaf. The pretty yellow cucumber flowers attract many pollinators, which is good for the whole garden. In my experience, cucumbers do not always do well in pots, but they may if you have a railing or other nearby structure for the vine to climb. Watch the weather: Here on Long Island, we love to talk about the weather because it can be unpredictable, particularly during spring and early fall. It’s also critical when it comes to vegetable gardens. Cucumbers love water and have a high water content, but they’re also susceptible to a variety of water-linked ailments, such as downy or powdery mildew. The easiest way to avoid these diseases is to target watering at the base of the plant, rather than the leaves, and water in the morning. Watering in the evening often results in the plant being wet overnight, allowing fungus to take hold. Guard against squash vine borers: If you’ve ever had a cucumber vine wilt and stay wilted despite plenty of water, you probably had a squash vine borer. The larva hatch from eggs laid on the leaves or at the base of the vine, and “bore” into the vine itself, eating its way along. They leave behind a tell-tale pile of “sawdust” at the base of the plant. Unless you catch the larva early on and perform plant surgery to extract it, the vine is a lost cause. I take a

Enjoy the fruits of your labor!

• Make homemade pickles (and fried pickles!): My favorite pickle recipes are done using a mason jar, stored in the fridge and are ready within a couple of days. No complicated sterilizing/canning needed! Enjoy as spears or chips. • Cucumber salad: Experiment with mustard and vinegar or mayo bases. Switch out white onions for red or omit onions entirely. If possible, sweat the cucumbers before incorporating into the salad, and let the salad sit awhile before serving. The flavors will meld and be greatly enhanced. • Fresh cucumbers, sliced, dressed, or dipped: Enjoy cucumbers on their own, sliced over a garden salad, or dipped in your favorite spread. • Cucumber-infused cocktails: Muddle into your drink to add a subtle, refreshing summer taste, use as a garnish, or try a homemade-infusion with your favorite vodka (or other libation of choice). Cucumbers are the quintessential summer vegetable, and with so many ways to enjoy, you’ll easily use up everything you worked hard to grow in no time!

“The coldest winter I spent was summer in San Francisco.” Mark Twain.

breathtaking and there were numerous scenic viewpoints to pull over and admire the grandeur. We ate an awesome seafood lunch (al fresco), at the Spud Point Crab Company. Order at the counter and sit on picnic tables, it’s casual and delicious. Then, onto the redwoods at Armstrong State Park, which was about a 30-minute drive from lunch. The trees were truly majestic – 300 feet tall, with a diameter of 15 feet – the oldest being approximately 1400 years old. Shady and quiet, the park was another highlight of the trip. After a few days in Sonoma, we drove an hour and a half south to San Francisco. On our way, we stopped at the Golden Gate Bridge View Vista Point to take in the scenery and cool mist, while listening to the distant sound of fog horns. Next, we checked into the Hilton San Francisco Financial District which had a fabulous location, just on the edge of the immense and fascinating Chinatown, where we visited a fortune cookie factory. A hop-on- hop-off double decker bus tour gave us an overview of the city and then we capped off the day with a SF Giants game. Our trip was 3,000 miles and brought just as many smiles.

This spring we had an amazing week touring Sonoma/Napa and San Francisco. I really didn’t know too much about visiting “Wine Country,” but thankfully I had a very helpful concierge at our hotel, the Doubletree Sonoma, and he pointed us in all the right directions. There are over 800 wineries in Napa and Sonoma counties and most offer fun and relaxing tastings. The cost ranges between $15 to $75 per person which usually entitles you to a sampling of four to five wines produced by the winery. They bring out each wine with a description and honestly, every wine we tried was delicious. We visited the St. Francis and Cosentino wineries and both were delightful. The most difficult thing to decide on that day, was who was going to be the designated driver. There must be a substantial Nepalese community in Sonoma, as there were a few Himalayan restaurants. We chose the Shangri-La Cafe in Rohnert Park and the food was outstanding. The best meal of our trip. Another highlight was our “dry” day. We drove 45 minutes west towards the coast to the town of Bodega Bay. The coastline along the Pacific was

we always were. This is the conundrum we face with aging. We begin to see, at first, subtle changes in our appearance and in our abilities. We may view our bodies and our future with fear and unfamiliarity. Society does not look kindly upon the things that happen when we grow older; but if we really observe closely and listen carefully, we can see and feel the person we always knew ourselves to be. Our souls are permanent and so, too, is our beauty, worth and uniqueness. Whatever happens, we must remember this and connect to our true spirit, in order to weather all changes—without losing sight of our true selves. There is great beauty in the unfolding of life. Each stage brings new and exciting adventures. We need to be open and willing to explore them. When we do, we begin to view ourselves in a new light, perhaps in ways we never had before. We grow, evolve and become better, stronger and wiser versions of ourselves!

Time marches on, no matter how hard we may try to stop it! We witness many changes over the course of our lifetimes. Relationships come and go, children grow up, jobs may change and so might the very structure of our lives. We may live in different homes, states or on different continents. The world changes . . . and so do we! We change in our physicality, viewpoints, beliefs and in our practices. It is not to say that we abandon all of which we used to espouse or embrace. However, with the advent of time, life experience and maturing, we can track a course of many twists and turns, or highs and lows that may lead us on different paths. As the saying goes: “The only constant in life is change.” On the other hand, there is another saying that states: “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” In this belief, we come to realize that even with and despite the countless changes we will each endure in our lives, we remain at our core, the very essence of who

approach to the management of symptoms, CBD leverages the natural interac- tions of the cannabis plant in the body. With its market value predicted to reach $9.69 billion by 2025, CBD is part of a broader trend toward a more holistic approach to wellness. The prospect of being able to rely on plant therapy to ease anxiety, reduce feelings of stress and lift mood is a certainly an attractive one. “People are increasingly turning to more natural health and wellness solutions to add to their self-care routines,” Clay Percy, Your CBD Store® Domestic Fran- chise Director said. “People are looking towards natural remedies for their anxi- ety and other mental and physical health concerns.” The Your CBD Store Solution Your CBD Store® places a consumer focus on integrated wellness solutions. From its team of bio scientists working on seed development and agricultural rigor to the company’s highly trained, thoroughly educated staff, the consumer’s safety and education come fi rst and foremost. Your CBD Store®, is the nation’s fastest growing retail channel for CBD users with over 700 locations across the country. After one year, the company grew into the largest CBD retailer in the world. Rachael Quinn, Your CBD Store® founder, shares her desire to inspire others through the use of natural, hemp-derived products. Each Your CBD Store® offers a comfortable and inviting environment where guests can learn about CBD, try samples and feel empowered to make a con fi dent choice on the best cannabinoid formulation option for them. The company’s organic growth and dedication to bettering the community through transparent product information from high-quality premium product lines backed by third party laboratory testing make SunMed™ CBD products a refreshing new standard in the CBD space. “Our approach is simple at Your CBD Store,” Percy said. “Education is fi rst and fore- most. CBD. It’s all over the news. Your friends are talking about it. It’s taking over your social media feed. But how much do you actually know about CBD? And in an uncontrolled market, how do you begin to navigate what’s best for you?

Well, let’s start with the basics:

What is CBD? Derived from the Cannabis sativa plant, CBD (cannabidiol) is the healing com- pound that has become the talk of the town in recent years, with organic proper- ties lending itself to a myriad of health conditions ranging from chronic pain and in fl ammation to neurodegenerative illnesses and hypertension. CBD has al- ways been recognized for its anti-in fl ammatory properties. So, it’s no secret that it can ease painful symptoms. CBD is devoid of THC – the psychoactive compound in the plant that is known for its mind-altering effects – which means that it is totally legal and readily avail- able to consumers around the world, and for many, it has proven itself to be the rX they needed. Is all CBD equal? More and more companies are fi ghting for a slice of the cannabis pie. Unfortu- nately, too many competitors are making compromises including low growing standards and poor-quality ingredients, undercutting the product and conse- quently, the consumer’s health. In this unregulated industry, a large number of CBD products are not seed-to-sale, medical-grade products optimized for thera- peutic results. Because the sale of CBD is unregulated by the FDA, there are only a handful of reputable companies out in the market. In a recent University of Connecticut study of 100 CBD products pulled off shelves at health food stores, gas stations, and vape shops, less than 67% tested properly. Your CBD Store® offers some of the purest ingredients in the world. The com- pany’s 700+ brick-and-mortar stores only sell products manufactured by Sun- Med, which undergoes a rigorous CO2 extraction process to eliminate the need for chemical solvents, resulting in a high-quality, full-spectrum CBD. The CBD is then processed again to remove all traces of THC for the company’s zero-THC products. Bringing superior quality hemp-derived products to the market, Your CBD Store® is the only company of its kind who can boast they are Certi fi ed USDA or- ganic, setting the benchmark that all companies in the CBD space should stand up to. CBD during the pandemic Almost one in four U.S. CBD consumers have started using CBD in the last six months, equivalent to 9 million new users, according to a national study of CBD users by cannabis market research fi rm High Yield Insights. That same study showed that more than one in three long-term CBD users (an estimated 13.4 million adults) sampled at least one new product type during this time. The CBD industry continues to thrive despite the far-reaching economic chal- lenges presented by the pandemic. By offering the potential for a more holistic
