Emma Jones CBE is an authority on small business and enterprise. She founded Enterprise Nation after selling her first business to Tenon plc. She a co-founder of national enterprise campaign StartUp Britain. She ran the private sector-funded and Government-backed campaign as CEO from 2011 to 2014. During that time UK start-up figures boomed and hit more than half a million new company registrations in 2014 for the first time. In 2015 Emma was appointed by the UK Prime Minister as a Business Ambassador with a focus on increasing international trade. She also launched several successful campaigns including the award-winning PopUp Britain. In 2016, Emma was appointed SME Representative for Crown Commercial Service, and in 2019 was appointed as a co- leader of one of the five Business Councils set up by Theresa May and since has been called upon to be part of the freeport advisory panel under Liz Truss. Emma is also the author of bestselling business books including Spare Room StartUp, Working 5 to 9 (about starting a business on evenings and weekends), Go Global (a book about exporting), Start a Business for £99, the StartUp Kit and Going for Growth.

Attendance Attendance isn’t mandatory, but ‘subs’ cannot attend in a Member’s place. We politely ask Members to try not to leave early, as we will usually conclude a meeting with an accountability round in preparation for the following meeting. To get the full benefit of the tried and tested peer group system - we strongly recommend treating each meeting as a client meeting and ring fencing the dates in your diary.

Confidentiality We ask all members to follow the commonly understood ‘Chatham House Rules’. Each Member agrees not to discuss any ULTRA Member’s business with anybody outside the of the group or disclose who the other Members are. Equally, all ideas are shared/given by Members freely with no expectation later of any form of financial reward, IP or compensation etc. No Member can be held liable for advice given either.

EVO Ultra Mercury Group Leader General Sir Peter Wall GCB, CBE, DL

Sir Peter Wall is the co-founder of Amicus, a specialist leadership consultancy. He was the Commander in Chief of UK Land Forces and subsequently, Chief of the General Staff (Head of the British Army), retiring in 2014. He has an engineering degree from the University of Cambridge and has extensive experience in dealing with British and foreign governments at the highest levels, as well as a proven track record in the strategic leadership of large and complex organisations. He is a recognised speaker on geopolitics and leadership techniques in business. Peter is a director of the General Dynamics Corporation and president of Combat Stress, the UKmilitary mental health charity. He is an avid follower of sport, sails, skis and plays the occasional game of village cricket.

Our Special Guest Speaker Wing Commander Andy Green OBE

Wing Commander Andy Green OBE is a Royal Air Force fighter pilot and holder of the World Land Speed Record. A veteran of combat theatres around the world, he has commanded Royal Air Force operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan. His career has included flying the F4 Phantom, Tornado F3 and (briefly) the Harrier. He is 'The Fastest Man on Earth', and the first person to break the sound barrier on land. He will attempt to break the record again in the new BLOODHOUND SuperSonic Car. He was created an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 1997 New Year's Honours List. In a fireside chat with Sir Peter with Q & A, we will hear of the huge technological, practical and personal challenges that he and the team had to overcome in pursuit of the ultimate Land Speed Record.

Ajith started in business in Sri Lanka reconditioning abandoned fridges. He moved to the UK at the age of 15, speaking no English and learned it from watching Newsnight and reading editorials of The Times newspaper. He later gained a place at Birmingham University to study economics. He opened the first Latin American- themed Las Iguanas, with a £10k bank loan in 1991 pretending it was to buy a car. It became a well-known restaurant chain around the UK. He sold it in 2015 for £80m. In 2010 he co-founded Turtle Bay - the casual dining Caribbean restaurant aimed at the mainstream market. Again, this has experienced huge growth and employs thousands of staff across 42 venues. Ajith is also an investor and mentor and his specialties are: business expansion, marketing, people development, operational excellence, and raising finance.

Established in 1979, we work with national and multinational blue-chip clients such as Panasonic, Prysmian, Rathbones, Effat University, Osborne Clarke, UKHO, Economic Cities Authority, National Grid and UKHO. Currently exports over 75% to 4 continents. An advocate of design as a catalyst for positive change economically, culturally and socially, particularly in the South West of England. Jennifer is an accomplished senior executive, talent management strategist, and leadership consultant who aligns people with processes to improve organizational performance and effect positive culture change. She is known for her work ethic, problem-solving skills, and ability to develop trusted, long-term business relationships. Blending her passion with expertise in operations, assessment, instructional design, corporate governance, and strategic execution, she has honed a unique approach that enables her to consistently deliver a step change in business effectiveness. As chief operating officer of AMICUS, she brings her diagnostic and emotional intelligence skills to bear in more complex environments.

Sunjay Singh turned 30 last Saturday. He co-founded LifeMedia UK aged 18 and today is a rising star in video production. At this meeting he will be talking to the group about diversity in business . LifeMedia UK helps marketers generate leads and business owners grow their business through the power of video marketing. He received a First Class in Genetics at The University of The West of England. He has led one of the EVO Business Networking groups called EVO Alpha for 3 years and has spoken at nearly every Business Showcase SouthWest at the Stadium in Bristol. His clients include ITV and British Corner Shop. “As a business, we have grown significantly since inception; something which I am driven to continue as we take on more projects and further enhance our offering.”

Former Guest Speaker Professor Dimo Dimov

Dimo Dimov is Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at University of Bath. He has been recognised among the top 100 professors of entrepreneurship worldwide. Dimo holds a PhD in Entrepreneurship from London Business School and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University (USA) and the CEU Graduate School of Business (Hungary). Prior to joining the University of Bath, he was on the faculty at Newcastle University, University of Connecticut (USA), and IE Business School (Spain). Prior to entering academia, he was finance director with Marriott International, overseeing two hospitality businesses in Budapest, Hungary. Dimo's research focuses on entrepreneurial thinking, process, and practice. He is co- founder of Kinetic Thinking, a validated framework for personal and organisational development. It helps individuals, teams and entire organisations capitalise on the changing world of work by deploying new ways of thinking, managing and leading. His book, The Reflective Entrepreneur, is now open access, free to download and read online here.

Rob Law MBE is the founder and CEO of Trunki, the brand behind the much-loved ride-on suitcase for tots. The theme he will discuss with our Mercury group is ‘competition’. Rob is an inspiring example of a British entrepreneur who through grit, passion and real belief built the global brand Trunki. From an idea over 20 years ago, a famous rejection on Dragons' Den to selling over 4 million ride-on suitcases. Rob has successfully built a team who have pioneered a new retail category of children’s travel products, designing and creating a range of innovative solutions which help families on the go. The company has won over 120 awards within the design, trade, consumer and business sectors including reaching 42nd on The Sunday Times Fast Track 100 and winning The National Business Awards SME of the Year. His new book is 65 Roses and a Trunki: Defying the Odds in Life and Business. He went on to receive an honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering from Bath University in 2015 and in 2018 was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration from UWE.
