FRIDAY, JULY 31ST 10:30 AM Disney Sing-Along (60 min): Sometimes, the best way to spend an hour is by belting out the classics along-side your EXPLO friends. And, yes, we’re taking requests. Whether you’re ready to break free with the High School Musical cast, or spend the morning under the sea with Ariel, we’re sure to get to some of your favorites. So, come blow off some steam and song-a-long. Note: Quality earbuds or over-ear headphones are encouraged. International Relations Club (60 min): Join with fellow students who share an interest in global affairs and world events. This club will raise awareness of global issues and international issues such as the refugee crisis, climate change, inequality, and more. As you delve deeper into the dance of international diplomacy, you’ll examine how the interplay between power, order, communication, and self-interest impacts foreign policy and international law. Note: This club is open to all students. You do not need to be registered in the International Relations course.

Current Events Club (60 min): Join with fellow EXPLO students to discuss and dissect a variety of important current events. Whether you’re interested in technology, politics, public health, or something else entirely, your thoughts and perspectives will bring a valuable voice to the conversation! Bring your ideas and questions, or feel free to just drop in to listen and learn more. Expert Talk: Arunava Majumbar (60 min): Arunava (Ron) Majumdar is a Watson and Cloud architect with over 20 years of experience in software design and development. He leads the asset portfolio strategy for IBM’s Watson and Cloud platforms and the Chicago Center for Advanced Studies. Join this Expert Talk to hear him discuss the Future of Tech, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. Race + Identity in American Society Club (60 min): In this committed society, students will take a closer look at the ways in which racism and white supremacy are embedded in American society and beyond. The sessions will offer a context-rich exploration of critical race theory, identity politics, and historical perspectives. Students will be provided with a framework for introspection, discussion, and (if desired) action regarding the topics of anti-racism and understanding oppression in our society today. Note: In a “committed society”, students are expected to attend each of the sessions in this series. Like a course, any unavoidable absence should be communicated in advance to the session leader.
