T he flexo industry runs on innovation. This year saw anoth- er 12 months of acquisitions and equipment purchases, as printers fought hard to stay toe-to-toe with their competitors. FTA Forms ‘Women of Flexo’ Committee Following a successful meeting at FORUM 2019 in May and a leadership meeting at Fall Conference 2019 in October, FTA has announced the formation of the Women of Flexo Committee. Dr. Nona Woolbright of Clemson University and Jennye Scott of Berry Global will co-chair the committee, which will work to fur- ther support and promote women in the flexographic industry through a variety of opportunities. As a way of reaching the objectives set forth by its leadership team, the Committee will be organizing and working in four subcommittees, each of which rep- resents a singular objective: • Marketing/Strategy : Increasing awareness of the Committee, and defining its long- and short-term goals; • Recruitment : Coordinating with schools to find Committee members and network; • Mentorship : Develop relationships between Com- mittee members new to the industry and those with experience; and • Leadership Diversity :Work toward increasing fe- male representation on panels, speaking opportunities and industry leadership roles. AICC To Host Flexo Printing Seminar AICC will host a seminar, Flexographic Printing:Rais- ing the Standard , on January 29-30, 2020, at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina.The seminar will focus on producing clean solids and line work, as well as halftones and spot colors by balancing classroom ses- sions and time on press. The show’s new feature areas included Flexpack Asia, which displayed the latest flexible packaging technology. A series of packed live demonstrations at the Flexible Packaging Arena took place on the show floor each day of the show.Making its debut, and intro- duced barely three months ago at Labelexpo Europe 2019 in September, this area of the show enabled visi- tors to see two press lines in action showcasing flexi- ble pouch production. AR Packaging Group AB , Lund, Sweden, acquired all outstanding shares in Istragrafika, d.d. , a produc- er of folding carton products for the tobacco, food and consumer goods segments. Istragrafika, headquartered in Kanfanar, Croatia, has a workforce of approximate- ly 160 employees. Istragrafika was established in 1956 and previously owned by TDR, a subsidiary of British American Tobacco plc. International Paper took over Envases Grau in Spain, a company with four packaging plants and ca- pacities of around 15,000 tons per year. Omet India Opens In New Delhi
Constantia Flexibles Celebrates Grand Opening Constantia Flexibles unveiled its new plant,Constan- tia Ecoflex Ahmedabad, at a opening ceremony on No- vember 20. More than 300 guests, including the Austri- an ambassador to India, Brigitte Öppinger-Walchshofe, and RS Sodhi, Managing Director of Amul industries and expert in the field of sustainability,as well as select- ed media representatives, attended the grand opening. Following the official part of the opening, including speeches and the ribbon-cutting, guests and media representatives attended a guided tour through the new plant.They had the opportunity to take a look at the technology that produces the packaging solution EcoLam by Constantia Flexibles. Ecolam is high barri- er flexible packaging that combines the resource-ef- ficiency of plastic with recyclability back into new packaging films, said Achim Grefenstein, SVP Group R&D, who drew the development of the EcoLam de- velopment in close collaboration with the Indian team. The Ecoflex plant opened after more than two years of intensive preparations.Test runs started in Septem- ber 2019. It has an area of 24,500 square meters and currently employs 50 people.The number is expected to triple by the second quarter of 2020.The plant will supply customers worldwide.
Omet India, the new Omet technical-commercial subsidiary headquartered in New Delhi, India,was offi- cially inaugurated on November 29, in the presence of more than 80 members of the Indian printing industry, including printers, suppliers and brand owners. With the India facility,Omet added a new element to its group of branches around the world: Omet Ameri- cas in Elk GroveVillage, Illinois;Omet Suzhou in China; and Omet Iberica in Barcelona, Spain. Local agentWeldon Celloplast has led the installation of more than 30 Omet printing machines in the region. Many Omet customers attended the presentation of the new offices,includingAny Graphics,Zircon and Re- nault,who already works with several Omet machines. Harveer Sahni,Chairman ofWeldon Celloplast,spoke about the birth of the collaboration with Omet since the 1990s, when he met Angelo Bartesaghi, founder of Omet, during his visit to India. It was also the first Swiss company to utilize the new Connected Services offering from Bobst, enabling a new form of cooperative partnership and optimized, connected machinery in the age of Industry 4. Electronics For Imaging (EFI) entered into a de- finitive agreement to be acquired by an affiliate of Siris Capital Group, LLC , in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $1.7 billion.
