T his year’s Label Industry Global Awards, like all industry events in the current climate, were presented virtually. Now in its 17th year, the awards are said to recognize the most inno- vative work from the label and package printing industry across the globe in the last 12 months.

Rainer Schmitt, Business Development; and Jens Zehnder, Printing Engineer, accept the Award for Innovation for GMG ColorCard.

GMG Color, Lenze SE, Paper Machine Converting Company and Avery Dennison Brazil were among the category winners. Flexo Market Predicted To Hit $181 Billion In 2025 The global value of flexographic printing will rise from $167.7 billion in 2020 to $181.1 billion in 2025, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.6 percent at constant prices, according to a new report from Smith- ers.According to the report, the majority of extra demand will come from the dynamic packaging print sector, where new automation and hybrid press lines are giving flexo print service providers greater flexibility and the option to exploit higher-value print applications. The global Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 will have an impact on growth due to disruptions in the supply chain and consumer purchasing. A Stabilizing Economy As the global economy stabilizes, the greatest in- crease in demand for flexo print will come from Asia and Eastern Europe, the research found. New flexo press sales are projected to increase at 0.4 percent, to a value of $1.62 billion and a total volume of 1,362 units in 2025; in addition to thriving second-hand, re- furbishment, and press enhancement markets. Corrugated board will remain the largest value seg- ment, but the quickest growing applications are in labels and folding carton print. For corrugated sub- strates, there will be an increase in lower run rates and shelf-ready packaging work. Much of this will be high color work, with three or more colors. Additionally, there will be an increase in wide-web installations driven by the continued growth in corru- gated and carton production. The survey also found that flexo will remain the most cost-effective print process for mid- to long-runs, but continued developments in digital (inkjet and elec- trophotography) printing will increase market pres- sures on flexo, to address changing consumer demand. To respond to this — especially for more short run work — there will be a drive to increase automation of flexographic processes, incremental improvements in computer to plate (CtP) processing, better on-press colour checking and imaging, and use of digital work- flow tools, according to the report. In addition to that, flexo manufacturers will continue to introduce hybrid presses, the report identified.Typ- ically, the result of a collaboration with a digital print technology company allows the benefits of digital pro- cesses, such as variable >Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4 Page 5 Page 6 Page 7 Page 8 Page 9 Page 10 Page 11 Page 12 Page 13 Page 14 Page 15 Page 16
