In addition to new programs like Ladies Lift for 2019, indoor season is going well for our players of all ages. Have you seen them acing those serves? We’re proud of everyone who’s been working hard to improve. We’re also pleased to welcome Bryant University back this year for some exciting matches. Fore Court will serve as the home court for these incredible athletes. Four of their Division 1 matches are scheduled to take place here. These are fun events to host, and we’re honored to be part of upper-level collegiate tennis. Come out and watch the fun. These skilled athletes will inspire you. As you’re looking for ways to stay committed to your fitness and push yourself to the next level, we are here for you. Whether it’s trying a group class for the first time or signing up with one of our talented personal trainers, we have many ways to help you achieve your goals. Everyone wins when we’re accountable. Have a great start to 2019, and see you at the club. -Dave Morin
We’re also excited to offer more sessions of the Ladies Lift program this year. Our first session was a hit! Our energetic trainer, Kara, led a group of amazing women to get stronger and fitter together. Even those who didn’t know one other became friends by the end. It was a great opportunity for fitness and fun — the two characteristics we aim for in all our classes. One of our big pushes for 2019 is to create more accountability for our members. Programs like Ladies Lift and challenges like Sleigh the Holidays are excellent ways to stay accountable to your fitness goals. Because you’re working out alongside others who have similar goals, it’s easier to push yourself through that last rep and stay committed to coming back the next day. As members get to know each other in classes and build relationships with instructors, they see how encouraging this environment is. Our instructors know
Happy New Year! How were your holidays? Our house was full of festivity and fun for Christmas as we hosted loved ones from both sides of our family. Keeping with our tradition, we hosted around 20 of Linda’s family members for Christmas Eve, and on Christmas Day, we welcomed my family to the celebration. I’ll be honest — it was exhausting but well worth it. As you can imagine, our New Year’s celebration was pretty tame. We enjoyed a nice dinner and an early bedtime. After the holidays (and a few extra cookies), it feels like it’s time for a fresh start. At the club, we’re excited to help you make that happen. Our Les Mills group classes are as popular as ever thanks to our energetic trainers and eager members. Participants enjoy the classes because there is always something fresh with each new release.
From Body Attack to Tone, these workouts are a fun way to stay fit.

A Guide to Downsizing What to Keep, Gift, Donate, and Throw Out
GIVE GIFTS TO LOVED ONES If you have children, they will undoubtedly want to keep a few cherished mementos and precious possessions. Deciding who will keep what can be a sensitive subject, so you’ll need to devise an equitable way to divvy up the goods. Some families engage in the process collaboratively, but there should always be some communication before anything is thrown out. Your kids may value certain items more than you ever realized. If you suspect a certain heirloom could be a source of contention, it’s best to hold on to it and make it part of your estate plan. ONLY KEEP THE ESSENTIALS After completing the first three steps, you should be left with only those items you actually use and those that have the most sentimental value to you. These are the objects worth bringing to your new home. BONUS TIP: COLOR CODE EACH CATEGORY Odds are that you’ll find junk and valuables stored right next to each other. If you don’t have time to physically separate them at the moment, use different colored Post-it notes to keep everything organized when it comes time to move.
Many homeowners reach a point in their lives when they’re ready to move from the house they raised their families in to something smaller and more manageable. While finding the right place can be a challenge, the hardest part of downsizing is often sorting through a lifetime’s worth of possessions. This process, called contents downsizing, is much easier when you follow this four-step system. START WITH THE JUNK Beginning your downsizing with the hardest items will only lead to frustration and inaction. Instead, start by tackling areas of the house that are full of documents, knickknacks, and boxes you haven’t touched in years. These will be the easiest to part with and will put you in the right downsizing mindset. DONATE UNWANTED ITEMS The next category contains items that are no longer valuable to you or your family but may be useful to others. These items can be donated to one of many worthy organizations, such as Goodwill, the Salvation Army, or St. Vincent de Paul. Donations are a way to give back to the less fortunate instead of simply giving or throwing things away.
3 EASY WAYS TO RECOVER QUICKLY FROM A COLD During the winter months, colds and the flu can spread like wildfire. You can find it as a nasal spray or lozenge, or even as part of a vitamin C supplement. By Finding a Gym That Feels Comfortable Cesar Renews His Love of the Game
“Whenever I have extra time, I go workout.”
says. His wife and daughter have joined as well, and they’re hoping to get their daughter into tennis this year. “They have a great program for kids,” Cesar says. Cesar stays active by tapping into the variety of programs our club has to offer. “On the weekends I play tennis, and I like the Les Mills classes, like Grit. I also do spin classes. I like everything! Whenever I have extra time, I come work out,” he says. Cesar expresses that in the beginning, he came to the club for workouts and classes. “I didn’t play tennis at first,” he says. He’d played all through his school days, but stopped in college. Fore Court renewed his love for the game. “It’s like the game — if you don’t play, you do okay; if you do [play], you always want to play better,” he says. “At Fore Court, they offer something for every level — whether you’re a beginner or advanced player.” He’s grateful for the pros who coach members to bring their best to each match. “Sedge is one of the best. He’s an old-school player who knows everything about the game,” Cesar says. “We are lucky to have him at Fore Court.”
About 10 years ago, Cesar and his family moved to Rhode Island from Portugal. It didn’t take him long to find a gym, but it took awhile to find a fitness facility where he felt like more than a number. “I was a member of another gym before, and they had a different approach,” Cesar says. “I came to Fore Court, and everyone cares about you. They want to make sure you feel comfortable.”
It was thanks to Cesar’s friend and neighbor, Jeff, that he found his way here. Cesar mentioned to Jeff that he wasn’t happy with his gym. As a Fore Court Member, Jeff suggested that Cesar give it a try, and we have been his fitness home ever since. “The people are nice, the owners are amazing, and I feel really comfortable,” Cesar
And we are lucky to have Cesar as a member! Thanks for making Fore Court your choice for staying fit and having fun!

3 Ways the Winter Weather Helps You Burn Calories
4
SHOVELING, SCRAPING, AND SHIVERING
2. SCRAPING In addition to shoveling snow, you can also get a workout by scraping those layers of ice off your windshield. In fact, you can burn up to 56 calories during a 15-minute scrape session. What’s more, you can’t slack off and skip this activity; it’s a necessary part of your morning routine. 3. SHIVERING Your body works hard to maintain a healthy temperature, and when that freezing wind rolls in, you’ll likely notice your body start to shiver. Shivering is a physiological response that produces heat through small, rapid muscle movements. It also assists with weight loss; you can burn up to 100 calories in 15 minutes of shivering. Of course, you should never purposefully make yourself chilly just to shed a few pounds, but if you have to be outside for a prolonged period of time this winter, know that your body is helping you out in more ways than one.
Winter can make it hard to stay physically fit. Between the aversion to stepping outside onto your ice-covered porch and the urge to drink that third cup of hot chocolate, these winter months can lead to unwanted weight gain. Nowadays, people will try almost anything to get rid of those extra pounds — yoga with goats, hula hoop fitness routines, and even underwater spinning classes. Believe it or not, you’re already working harder than you think this time of year. Here are three ways the winter weather helps you burn calories. 1. SHOVELING Love it or hate it, if you live in an area with a lot of snowfall, shoveling is a necessary chore every time it snows. While the repetition associated with this task bothers a lot of people, according to a Harvard study, you actually burn approximately 230 calories for every 30 minutes you shovel.
