WHAT DAY IS TODAY?
We are lucky to be UE Siders since there is still some sense of community. People are out on the streets and restaurants are street side and busy. Other parts of the city are not so fortunate looking more boarded up and abandoned. Since most of you are working from home we have evening and Saturday hours where we can accommodate your schedules. From what I hear you are now your own movie stars. Yes; you are on tv. Well actually on your computer screens via Zoom Conferencing and people are looking at you. Probably a lot closer then when you were in your office. They are looking at your smile. They are looking at your teeth and of course judging you and your appearance because That’s What Humans Do! You do want to look your best.
As we start month six life continues although somewhat confusing. Is it Monday or Thursday or maybe Saturday one never knows? We all go through our weekly routines but much of the passion is gone. This will eventually end but meanwhile we must carry on. I am grateful for the practice and for you my patients. I have a place to go and look forward to seeing you which is a big plus. My waist is expanding due to no workouts of swimming and weights. Since my knees have spoken running and biking are no longer possible but being a true New Yorker I’ll remain strong and continue to persevere. I hope you have found creative ways to stay fit. Staying active is important for your mind, health and wellbeing.

MORE REASONS TO I LOVE LUCY
While Gene Roddenberry’s original “Star Trek” only lasted three seasons, it went on to become a major TV and film franchise. One of its recent iterations, “Star Trek: Discovery,” is about to enter its third season on the streaming service CBS All Access — all because Lucille Ball saw potential in a little show back in 1965.
In 1965, Ball took the pitches to her longtime network collaborator, CBS. They said no to “Star Trek” (but yes to “Mission: Impossible”), but Ball wasn’t about to give up on this new science fiction show, so she took it to NBC. The network was skeptical at first but ordered a pilot. The pilot starred Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Pike and Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock. There was no James T. Kirk to be found — not yet, anyway. The pilot, titled “The Cage,” was a disappointment. NBC executives weren’t about to put it on air, but they decided to order a second pilot after Ball agreed to help finance it. The second pilot starred William Shatner as Captain Kirk, and he was joined again by Leonard Nimoy as Spock. NBC executives liked what they saw. The new pilot, titled “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” was put on NBC’s fall schedule, though it wasn’t the first episode aired on NBC. That honor went to the episode titled “The Man Trap,” which aired on Sept. 8, 1966.
Did you know that Lucille Ball - the iconic comedian best known for her 1950s show “I Love Lucy” - is the reason “Star Trek” exists today? Ball was a Hollywood force in the ‘50s and ‘60s, and she produced hit after hit with her production company. In fact, Desilu, co-founded by Ball and her then- husband, Desi Arnaz, was responsible for hits like “The Andy Griffith Show” and “The Dick Van Dyke Show.” The two were partners in the company until their divorce in 1960, and in 1962, Ball took over Arnaz’s share. In that moment, Ball became one of the most powerful women in Hollywood, and Desilu, one of the biggest independent production companies at the time, had a lot of pull in the industry. In 1963, one of Desilu’s biggest hits was coming to an end. “The Untouchables” was a crime drama starring Robert Stack. Ball needed a replacement, and two potential shows hit Ball’s desk: “Star Trek” and “Mission: Impossible.”
MANDATORY FASHION ACCESSORY
Here’s an entrepreneurial idea. You could design and make masks, go on etsy. com to promote and sell them and you’ve created a new online business right from your home.
I am a simple fellow so I rummage about town in my surgical mask because I have them.
There are now numerous facial masks available. Since everyone must have a mask to venture out and especially to venture into any establishment — you now have a new fashion accessory. You can reveal your inner self with the mask you wear. You can have multiple masks for different feelings and occasions. You can match your mask to your outfit. People have appeared to become very creative with their fashion wear.

STREAMING AND WE’RE NOT TALKING ABOUT FISHING
However, you are actually fishing for something entertaining. With museums, Broadway, movie theatres and sporting events cancelled or closed its either read a book or stare at your tv/computer screen.
“The Mandalorian” on Disney Plus with Baby Yoda is just pure entertainment. It is interesting how The Child a mechanical puppet outplays all the other actors in whatever scene it is in. The good news is that principal photography was finished before COVID-19 and post production is proceeding with an October 2020 confirmed season 2 release date. Picard on CBS+ is the continuation of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” I think they did a real great job on many levels and have enjoyed the series. Season 2 will appear sometime before the 23rd century.
What we all need is content and content is challenging to find.
You probably have your 100+ channels of Spectrum. I actually watch Frontline, Diners, Drive Ins and Dives — Guy Fieri should be the size of the Hindenburg by now — Discovery and Turner Classic movies. I have been looking at some Bogey and Sidney Greenstreet movies. I tried baseball but with the cutout figures in the stands and the phony crowd noises its unwatchable. Then there is NetFlix, Disney+, HBO Max, Apple TV, Tubi, Vudu, Google Play, You Tube, Hulu and CBS+. Of course, no one has all these services so your choice is limited to begin with. I go online to DVD release dates.com which lists by week all the new movies that are coming out. Then choose a title if I can find one and do a Google search of where it is streaming.
The new Tom Hanks movie “Greyhound” on Apple Plus is very good but would have been better on a theatre Imax screen.
Movie production is now a go but no one has actually started to shoot. Seen any movie crews in Manhattan — exactly. When they finally go into production will all the extras have masks on? How are they going to have any romantic scenes?
The winners for me are:
So for the time being we’ll all be watching repeats.

IF YOU’RE BREATHING THEN YOU ARE EATING
Although I’m avoiding restaurants, I taking out. Here are three places that are humming as seen on my daily walk home from the practice. Their takeout is good and two of the three have extensive outdoor, private and tolerable outside dining. They appear to be busy every evening — weather permitting
GOTHAM PIZZA I go to the location on York and 76th. For all practical purposes this is takeout only. I get the small pizza once per week and it is always good. Probably not too healthy but you know.
A LA TURKA Here the food is good and not cheap. But they are busy and have made an effort in presentation. I find the food to be good and also filling. They have commandeered about a third of 74th street. Both of these restaurants are on the same block
JG MELLON As they told me they have cheap good food and you won’t leave hungry. Yes the food is inexpensive and filling. The staple being cheeseburger, cottage fries and alcohol. What could go wrong. Since I take out I supply my own beer.
