SPRING 2022

GOOD TIMES ARE COMING TIME TO RENEW AND GO FORWARD

Remember when they said, “We need two weeks to flatten the curve”? Seems like a long time ago and it has been a long two years. Two days before St. Patrick’s Day 2020 the Governor and Mayor, remember they closed the city. All that green beer down the drain. Here on the Upper East Side, St. Patrick’s Day has always been a big deal. With all the residents, firefighters and police in the area, the place was always humming. If you’ve ever been to Ireland you know you always have a good time. We are now coming up to St. Patrick’s Day 2022 and although 2021 was still a no go I believe that this year we will be up and running. The powers that be will try to keep us down but in several weeks when the big day arrives even they will relent and the city will fully reopen. For most of us it’s about time. In fact if you are planning a getaway between now and the end of summer you best get moving. Most of us need and want a vacation and we do not mean a stay vacation but a going away vacation. The most desirable events and locations are rapidly filling up. Do not expect bargain pricing. The demand is too great and if you don’t act now you won’t be going anywhere. The crazy thing is car rental prices are even higher than air fares. You need to get out of New York City preferably in the nature where you can relax and unwind. We have all been through the wringer these past two years and you need to blow off a little steam.

If you have not visited some of the National Parks out west maybe this is the year. Some suggestions: The Grand Canyon – north rim which is more isolated. Take the burrow ride down to the canyon floor. Maybe, taking a water cruise on the Snake River in Wyoming, where you can observe nature while floating down the river. If you’re adventurous and have the energy, how about hiking part of the Adirondack Trail for a couple of days?

If you don’t want to travel far then you can head upstate where there are lakes, rivers, trails and nature.

When was the last time you waddled into a lake? The muddied suction of the lake bed tugging on your soles. No chlorinated or salt water here. The excitement or uneasiness of having a fish careen into your body while standing. Or you could just take a canoe or rowboat and paddle away. The goal is to make it through the rest of 2022 with your health and sanity intact. In 1994 I survived the Northridge earthquake, living one mile from the epicenter. That was a rumble and a tumble. You’ve survived the pandemic and as Conan said, “That which does not kill you makes you stronger.” So, let’s all stay strong and healthy and I believe 2023 will be a much better time and place.

5 WAYS TO DEAL WITH ANNOYING ROBOCALLS

Protect Your Identity and Kick Scammers to the Curb

example, you can download the “Verizon Call Filter” app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Visit your carrier’s website or call them to learn about the tools they offer. 2. Download an ad blocker. For extra protection, you can download a separate ad blocker from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Hiya is a free app that will give you caller ID and block spam calls, and Nomorobo is an award-winning option that’s free for landlines and costs $1.99 per month for cellphones.

3. When in doubt, let it ring out. If you don’t recognize the number calling, don’t answer. You can always call back if they leave a legitimate voicemail.

4. Suspect spam? Hang up. So, you accidentally answered a spam call. Whether it’s a person or a robot on the line, hang up immediately! Even saying your name or the word “yes” could set you up for identity theft. 5. Handle voicemails with care. If you get a suspicious voicemail, never call the number or visit the website given by the caller. Instead, Google the company or agency they claimed to be with and call that number. If the real agency has no idea about the call, you’ve just escaped a trap. By taking all five of these steps, you can protect yourself and your wallet from Ponzi schemes, identity thieves, and annoying telemarketers.
