Children are more than just little bodies. They have developing minds, growing personalities, and impressionable spirits. That’s why at Grounds For Play we seek to encourage, inspire, and empower children through play. Our mission is to design and build recycled outdoor play environments for children of all ages that are safe and environmentally-focused and encourage social, emotional, language, cognitive, motor, and physical skill development.

We are very different and we're proud of it. We are built on an understanding of child development.

We are built on an understanding of child development, play, and safety , which is reflected in the equipment we manufacture and the play environments we design. Our understanding allows us to address comprehensive issues, age-specific needs, and create play environments that are centered around your objectives .

We maintain an extraordinary record of safety. Our commitment to safety is reflected in each phase of our planning process — from our materials to our strategic 6 ' obstruction-free fall zones. All of our products meet or exceed standards set forth by respective organizations in our industry, such as IPEMA™ and the U.S. Access Board.

Our products are made from environmentally-friendly materials.

Our posts and decks are made from 95% recycled materials , such as recycled plastic from many common household items like milk jugs. In fact, one pound of our plastic lumber utilizes a total of 8 gallon- sized milk jugs. Additionally, the posts and decking can be recycled at the end of their life.

We support major areas of play.

Dramatic Play Dramatic play allows children to act out everyday scenes to make sense of their surroundings. Dramatic play also encourages communication, sharing, creativity, and emotional development. Learn more starting on page 38.

Physical Play Movement play, primarily found in

physical play, strengthens the body and develops gross motor skills. Physical play also allows for learning opportunities in adaptability, flexibility, and resilience. Learn more starting on page 14.

Nature & Outdoor Classroom Nature gives children the opportunity to explore, understand, and appreciate nature, while the outdoor classroom allows children to explore topics such as math and science principles. Learn more starting on page 44.

Music & Art Play When allowed to create, whether that be a musical piece or an art piece, children can access their playfulness, creativity, and innovative spirits. Music and art helps to develop a child’s fine motor skills. Learn more starting on page 49.

We build with eco-friendly materials. Our recycled posts and decks look similar to wood but without the unwanted maintenance! This material is made from post-consumer plastic products, like milk jugs and detergent bottles. Neat, right? So, first things first. Let’s see just how great our sustainable posts and decks are.

Durable, Long Lasting Posts & Decks These reinforced posts and decks are vandal- resistant and protected from rotting, splitting, cracking, or splinters. Additionally, the posts have UV additives to protect from fading and are resistant to termites, marine borers, salt spray, oil, and fungus (making them perfect for coastal areas!). All of this combined provides a child-friendly, low maintenance, and slip-resistant surface for play.

Reduce Air & Water Pollutants Unlike wood, our structural plastic lumber doesn’t need to be chemically treated, so there’s no leaching of chemicals into the ground or water. Reduce Toxic Exposures Our plastic lumber doesn’t emit toxins and irritants into the air or water like PVC or treated wood does. Reduce Waste & Landfill Pile-Up Our plastic lumber gives consumer plastics new life, reducing waste dramatically.

Certified Green Posts & Decks What’s more, our supplier has the Recycled Content Certification by GreenCircle.

This certification qualifies their compliance with all Federal Trade Commission (FTC) 2012 Green Guidelines. Our posts and decks also meet criteria for the USGBC LEED requirements .

Reduce Deforestation Unlike traditional wood, our lumber

eliminates the need for deforestation — saving countless trees that wildlife depend on for food and shelter.

Our playgrounds are made for coastal environments. Marine borers, salt spray, UV rays, and unwanted playground rust beware. Built-In Resistance Our posts and decks resist marine borers and salt spray.

UV Additives Most of our components, as well as our shade fabric, either have UV additives or are UV stabilized to resist fading against that hot coastal sun.

Extra Protection Options Our metal components can have an extra-protection coating to protect against salt spray and the coastal air.

Structures

We’re low maintenance, environmentally friendly, and non-toxic — everything you’re looking for in a playground. Plastic coated punched steel and expanded metal decks are subject to rust, wear, and vandalism that causes the loss of coating. Our recycled decking is high-performance and resistant to fading and vandalism. These decks can be easily maintained with soap and water and a light pressure wash to keep your playground looking new. If a piece of decking is somehow vandalized, it can be replaced without the need to replace an entire deck.
