FINDING RELIEF SAY "HELLO AGAIN" TO PAIN-FREE KNEES & HIPS

Your hips, knees, and lower legs are tough—but injuries happen. Your hips and knees are your largest joints, supporting your body’s weight. They work in close coordination, giving us the mobility we need. Between arthritis, injuries and age, however, pain can flare up. If you’re experiencing hip, knee or leg pain, call us to schedule a closer look. Before you do, however, let’s examine the pain itself. What Causes Hip, Knee and Leg Pain? Hip, knee and leg pain are surprisingly common. Thus, their source can come from a variety of things. If you’re experiencing pain in any part of your leg, pinpointing the exact spot can help you determine the cause. Mayo Clinic has pinpointed several leading causes of hip, knee and leg pain. While many causes exist, the most likely are:

Hip and knee pain does not have to arise from sports injuries. People can suffer from hip and knee pain due to normal wear and tear and arthritis. A physical therapist can help to determine where the pain can be coming from and you don’t even need to see a doctor first. What Are the Symptoms? While leg pain is noticeable by a slew of symptoms, several stick out. Aching or stiffness around the hip, groin, back or thigh may be a sign of deeper problems. A decreased range of motion can also be a sign of deeper problems which may later result in hip, knee or leg pain. Sometimes, inactivity can contribute to immobility—and later pain. If you’re limping, lurching or are experiencing bad balance, contact a physician. While some hip, knee and leg pains go away, those lasting longer than several months may be hinting at a deeper issue. Call us today at 949-837-5111 or visit our website online at h2orthopedicpt.com. We can help you recover from your hip, knee, and leg pain.

HOW PHYSICAL THERAPY CAN HELP

In many cases, physical therapy can help patients quickly recover from an injury and get back to what they love to do. In doing so, they can stretch, flex and strengthen the muscles responsible for support. If a joint appears deformed, or if sudden swelling occurs, contact a physician immediately. A typical physical therapy session will start with a comprehensive evaluation of your entire lower body, looking for the exact source of your problem. Your physical therapist will customize a treatment plan to address areas of stiffness, weakness, tightness, and pain. On every level, physical therapy serves to enhance the patient’s quality of life. We’re here to help, and we have years of experience backing every therapy option. Contact H2Orthopedic today, and tell us about your symptoms. HEALTHY RECIPE Jackfruit Pulled Pork Sandwich • 1 Tbsp canola oil • 1 small onion, sliced • 2 garlic cloves, minced

SUCCESS STORIES

For the last 7 or 8 years, like many others getting on in years, I’ve found myself aging not quite as gracefully as I’d hoped for, primarily due to now inoperable back problems. After several years of physical therapy at other Orange County physical therapy locations, my pain management doctor suggested giving H20rthopedic a try. At H2Orthopedic, each aquatic therapy session is done one-on -one in a HEATED pool, designed specifically for physical therapy, thus making your session something to look forward to. I’ve now been using them for several months now and the staff is outstanding, managed by Stefan and Larry. Michele and Carissa, the main aquatic staff, are a delight to work with. Just as important, they push and encourage you but never to the point of unnecessary pain." – W. J.

• 1/2 tsp liquid smoke • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika • Pinch cayenne pepper to taste • 1 1/2 cups vegan BBQ sauce • Salt and pepper to taste

• 2 (20 ounce or 567 gram) cans young green jackfruit in brine, drained and rinsed • 2 Tbsp soy sauce

• 6 sandwich rolls • Vegan coleslaw

Coat a skillet with oil and place over medium-high heat. Add onion and cook 5 min, stirring occasionally, until soft and starting to brown. Add garlic, cook 1 min. Add jackfruit, soy sauce, and liquid smoke. Cook 5 min, until the liquid cooks off. Sprinkle with smoked paprika and cayenne pepper. Stir and cook 1 min. Stir in BBQ sauce. Bring to a simmer, lower the heat, and cook 20 min, stirring occasionally. Add water if sauce is too thick. Use two forks to pull the jackfruit apart until stringy. Cook until tender and sauce is thick. Stuff jackfruit into buns and top with coleslaw.

EXERCISE ESSENTIALS Walking Lunge Stand comfortably with your feet shoulder width apart. Take a large step forward with one leg, keeping your back foot in starting position while rolling onto your toes. Keep your spine straight and your forward and back knees bent, so that you make right angles with your hip, knee, and ankle. As you lunge, you should feel a stretch across the front of the hip and thigh. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat 2-5 times.

Have You Tried Aquatic Therapy? H2Orthopedic offers Aquatic Therapy sessions which are performed in our 92 degree heated indoor therapeutic pool and is located inside our facility. There is no driving to an off-site location with limited hours and where you may share pool time with swimmers and children participating in swim lessons. Our pool is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm and all sessions are truly one-on-one; you will never be part of a group. Your physical therapist will work closely with you to guide you through your stretches and exercises during each visit. The Properties of Water During Your Treatment Session Include: Hydrostatic Pressure which helps to decrease inflammation and increase circulation, eliminating muscle soreness, and increasing program participation. The water acts somewhat like a full-body support suit, exerting pressure evenly against swollen limbs and joints. Hydrostatic Pressure also removes lactic acid from cells, resulting in minimal soreness from even a rigorous underwater workout. The buoyancy and heat of the water helps alleviate increased weight bearing on sore joints while allowing your muscles to relax allowing you to move/strengthen through greater range of motion. Water provides resistance in all planes of motion and can be increased or decreased by changing speed of movement or by adding resistance equipment. If this sounds like something that you or someone you know could benefit from, please give us a call at 949- 837-5111 for more information!
