SUNDAY

Dearest Sober Queens, Monday is trickling in through the shutters as Madrid creaks into life with my candles of intention blazing strongly sprinkling light into Mother Universe whom I trust implicitly…

-And yung pueblo wrote… They asked her, “What is real freedom?” She answered, "Freedom is mental clarity combined with inner peace. Freedom is when you can see without projecting and when you can live without causing yourself unnecessary mental tension or stress. It happens every moment you are not craving for more. Happiness and freedom are one."

yung pueblo wrote

I was never addicted to one thing to one thing, I was addicted to filling a void within myself

with things other then my own love.

yung pueblo also wrote

And yung pueblo wrote….. do what is right for you. do it over and over again. lean into the light. keep going even when it is hard.

life is difficult and full of unexpected challenges.

even so, you have to ask yourself:

Especially when it is hard. do not let doubt stop you. trust the process when your mood is low.

h ow much stress and mental tension are you unnecessarily causing yourself by creating assumptions and replaying fear in your mind? how often are you refusing to let go

let growth be your mission. let healing be your reward. let freedom be your goal.

I think for a Monday that is pretty profound writing to set you on your way for this week courtesy of the magic that is yung (diego) pueblo, the author of inward and clarity & connection.

and adapt when things change? how much of your inner turmoil is self-imposed?

-I urge you to go into your day and this week seeking freedom…

Freedom by me…. Freedom to choose. Freedom to heal….. Freedom to say no. Freedom to say yes.

Freedom to have boundaries. Freedom to trust yourself. Freedom to stop shrinking. Freedom to find your voice. Freedom to use your voice.

Freedom to be quiet. Freedom to be loud. Freedom to believe in yourself. Freedom to feel joy. Freedom to feel happiness. Freedom to feel low. Freedom to accept it was not wine o clock, it was an addiction. Freedom to admit you struggled. uniqueness. Freedom to be a f*cking bother to protect your sober promise. Freedom to be you. Freedom to say not today lady, not today. Freedom to seek help. Freedom to accept help. Freedom to celebrate your Please join me in the sober dawn chorus as we say not today lady, not today. Happy Sunday xx

DILIGENCE, IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY TO SUSTAIN SOBRIETY I I believe diligence is absolutely necessary to sustain sobriety. It is so easy to forget the pain and find yourself right back in that rabbit hole. I continue to see people losing their battle with addiction and my heart breaks for them. I'm also growing angrier at our culture for promoting this alcohol "lifestyle." There was just recently a 41-year-old, The Voice contestant, who just lost his battle with substance abuse. He was talented and beautiful and it took him. It was a waste and a shame. This is why I am diligent in continuing to do my Pledge 100 each morning and connecting to my sober sisters. This could have been me in time. When the thought comes in that I can do this alone, I know that is an underlying fear and pure escapism that I've used throughout my life. Running away from people. Remaining diligent to come here each day, to connect, interact, express, and continue to work on my habits, thoughts, and actions is making the difference. I wrote in the lesson the first time around, that I was tired, but that I was trusting the process. I knew that if I stayed diligent that it would pay off. And it is... I'm growing! Holy crap! I'm working through things, I'm understanding myself better, and I'm able to talk to myself and not beat myself up for having a thought! That is amazing stuff - and there is so much more. I care about myself now. I hold myself more, I care how I present and I care where I'm going to go in my life. I still don't know where that is, but I don't think I have to know right now. That beast - that beast addiction is still near me, I can feel it on the back of my neck, like the monster on Stranger Things. Diligence will be necessary on my part to keep going so that I do not fall back down that rabbit hole. I know it is possible. I'm not on cloud 9 or in the pink zone, or whatever it is called; I'm learning and growing and I can make it through the tough days (and they will come, I know) with the help of my connections, daily commitment, the knowledge I've obtained, and belief in myself. Sobriety is a different world, it is a better world, and though that knawing is still there on the back of my neck, it doesn't mean anything except to remind me that addiction is real. Hopefully, eventually, it will get bored and move on.

I WAS INTERESTED IN THIS DEFINITION OF PATIENCE.. I was interested in this definition of patience: “the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious." I do not believe I have patience, as defined here. So I guess, the question that follows is: Why? I get annoyed easily. I get anxious easily. I have triggers for both of them. What I try to do now is just to observe myself: why is this so fucking annoying? Why does it really make me so frustrated? I think the issue is my expectations about the person, or the situation or even myself. I am not very sure patience is the absence of these feelings. I think patience has more to do with accepting that some situations are incredibly annoying and that one has to accept there is a part of one’s personality that is easily annoyed .

So patience is really practicing patience with myself.

My well-being would be greatly improved by working through my frustration with situations and people and just life in general. It is a slow process. It will take much more time than I would want. If I keep wanting people to behave as I think is rational, logical, and well, like grown-ups, I will only continue to be frustrated. So, I have to stay in my lane, do my thing and just distance myself from the absurdity of other people's behaviors. Regarding anxiety, there is a part of me that will always be anxious. Not all the time, not constantly, but frequently. So again, patience with myself and accepting I have this mental issue I have to deal with. There are all types of things that help me deal with anxiety, so I have to continue practicing them, daily. We did not have infinite choices or infinite time to go around in circles, doing the same things, reacting the same way, or thinking in a certain unhealthy way. So yes, patience with a clear single-minded focus on accepting it takes time to change. Which is different from being self-indulgent and not striving to do better. Change is the goal. Not self-indulgence.

MINDSET IN SOBRIETY IS PARAMOUNT TO S UCCE S S .

Mindset is paramount to success in sobriety. We have spent decades, drip feeding our psyche with limiting beliefs. Battering our self-esteem, making little of the respect we have for ourselves. For too long, as a female, I have tried to be all, do all, and unify daily all relationships within the home. Setting very high standards in everything I do, in addition to being a people pleaser, naturally, fall into the role of carer. When I read that, that is a lot, an awful lot for one pair of shoulders, could I be shocked I needed a crutch..?. The mindset shift needed can only come in sobriety when we look deep within. Our worries, fears, anxieties, hopes, and dreams. Then, only then as switches start flicking the right way, we can gift ourselves with the mindset that will be needed in sustaining sobriety. This mindset will reflect more of at LAST accepting, yes addicted to ethanol. No there is NO third door in my world, right, this is what I need to do DAILY. Then, as we move along our sobriety days and weeks, all those little victories will feed that mindset. Def the 2 nd round has been key for me. Cementing everything, the connection here daily I love. Does NOT feel like work, it is a privilege. Loving this round so much.

-Y.B. Pledge 100 Thomond Warrior

SUCCESS TASTES GOOD AND BREEDS MORE S UCCE S S

My mindset in sobriety is one of success. Determination is grounded.

My feet are on the ground. Resolve is strong. Success tastes good and breeds more success. My success is in a big part influenced by my friends here. Coming in every day and seeing the same names, the raw content of the shares, the truth, the soul searching, and the loving and honest support is genuinely empowering. It feeds the soul and the resolve. It gives me faith in humanity. I had lost faith , I'm a cynic at heart. Life's blows have made me so. You ladies have sent that cynicism into touch. My belief in human kindness has been renewed or even born. I rarely accept that people are kind for no reason, not expecting something in return, here we are.

Love you all x

"Spreading good news—being a messenger of what’s good in the world—is something we can all be doing today. Think about it. We don’t even have to speak or write something to spread love, compassion, kindness, or goodness. It’s all about how we show up in the world. It’s all about our actions and how we make people feel Ask yourself this week, are you a messenger of hope, love, and good news? Or are you stuck in a cycle of negativity and doom, pointing fingers and spreading bad news?" - Maria Shriver The Duke University Basketball Women’s Coach Kara Lawson said this week "We wait for stuff to get easier. It will never get easier. What happens is you handle hard better.” And Robin William's in Good Will Hunting said, “You will have bad times, but they will always wake you up to the stuff you weren't paying attention to.” So ask yourself, are you a messenger of hope, love, and good news? Or are you stuck in a cycle of negativity and doom, pointing fingers and spreading bad news? Are you the FLAME-THROWER in the group? Maria Shriver writes, "Whenever I would say anything was hard, my mother would say, “I don’t want to hear a yip out of you.” She would ask me what did I expect, did I expect it not to be hard? She would say, “Everything is hard, just keep moving. I know these are hard times. They are really, really hard times for millions. People struggle with inflation, gas prices, and a sense of hopelessness, grief, and despair. Yes, these times require perseverance, strength, and hope. We can only get through these times if we believe we can do what Coach Lawson told us we could do. We can only get through these times, I believe, if we each commit to something larger than ourselves. I believe we can rise up if we believe we can make a difference in another person’s life. So today, think about that. Realize that we can each do what the coach did. Each of us can inspire another . Each of us can help another person shift their perspective of how they see the world, even if it’s just by two degrees ." PLEASE remember, “We wait for stuff to get easier. It will never get easier. What happens is you handle hard better.” Coach Lawson And this week know, “You will have bad times, but they will always wake you up to the stuff you weren't paying attention to.” ― Robin Wi l l iams And ask yourself, are you a messenger of hope, love, and good news? Or are you stuck in a cycle of negativity and doom, pointing fingers and spreading bad news? "The rule of life? Let it fucking happen" – Thomas Shelby of Peaky Bl inders

LOVE yourself SOBER

"Boozing is living a wild, crazy, blurry, detached and numbed-out life that is sometimes fun and sometimes sad and sometimes downright miserable (when you get to where I was with my boozing). Sobriety is not. Sobriety is not grand gestures and exciting developments. Sobriety is all the little things.

It's the lovely conversations at the end of a party, the quiet cosy conversations that are real and memorable.

It's getting up at 11 pm to rub a sick child's back and feeling so grateful to be fully alert. It's the delight in an empty recycling bin. It's driving home at midnight. I love driving home in the dark so much. It's hearing people talk about their own struggles and not inwardly running a mile, but listening, really listening. It's that beautiful moment after you've stared down a pang and resisted the urge to drink, it's gone away and you realise it was lying to you and you didn't want/need/deserve the drink after all. That is a truly beautiful sober moment. It's waiting, waiting for bad moods to pass, waiting for glum phases to end, waiting for the light to return. Knowing that it always does. It's really appreciating a hot cup of tea, really appreciate each and every sip. Or really appreciating a small sweet square of chocolate as it melts in your mouth."

LOVE yourself

We’re all so busy CHASING the extraordinary that we forget to stop and be grateful for the ordinary.

John O Donohue writes,

"May my mind come alive today To the invisible geography That invites me to new frontiers, To break the dead shell of yesterday, To risk being disturbed and changed. May I have the courage today To live the life that I would love, To postpone my dream no longer But do at last what I came here for And waste my heart on fear no more."

We all know, that wine addiction o clock will not help.. …..the celebration with family any more bearable. …..to heal those loved ones who are ill in your family. …..take away your anxiety or feelings of worthlessness. …..it will not make your marriage any easier or any better. …..turn you into some goddess…that my friends may take surgery (!) ……to switch off the white noise in your head. ……it will not stop the internal chatter. …..make your ex-partner-husband into a normal functioning adult. ….will not make your day, your week, your life better.

Throwing your sober promise into the air and romanticizing what one glass (which is never one glass and is always one bottle, one year, one decade) will do HAS ONLY ONE OUTCOME, a hangover, a shitty feeling of failure, and the hopelessness of it all will strangle from within. And I want to say to you this day..Be kind to yourself. Be patient. Be wise in your choices. Be mindful. Find boldness. Stop shrinking. Keep rising. Don't apologise. Don't take crap. Don't f*ck it up. Shout if you need me. And one final thought, "May I have the courage today to live the life that I would love….." Remember, we’re all so busy CHASING the extraordinary that we forget to stop and be grateful for the ordinary. Richard Wagamese tells us, “There is such a powerful eloquence in silence. True genius knows when to say nothing, to allow the experience, the moment itself, to carry the message, to say what needs to be said. Words are less important, and less effective than feelings. When you can sit in perfect silence with someone, you truly know how to communicate.”

Mash-Up Reading at Hola Sober Support Meeting-

“But you can’t get to any of these truths by sitting in a field smiling beatifically, avoiding your anger and damage and grief. Your anger and damage and grief are the way to the truth. We don’t have much truth to express unless we have gone into those rooms and closets and woods and abysses that we were told not to go in to. When we have gone in and looked around for a long while, just breathing and finally taking it in – then we will be able to speak in our own voice and to stay in the present moment. And that moment is home.” ― Anne Lamott

LOVE YOURSELF FIRST

“The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can't be any large-scale revolution until there's a personal revolution, on an individual level. It's got to happen inside first.” ― Jim MORRISON

WELL DONE WELL SAID IS BETTER THAN

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

“when we taste discomfort and want to run is when the actual work starts. Most of the time we show up like I do in a yoga class, full of our own ideas and judgments. Sometimes we are so full, we can’t hear some of the more profound lessons and teachings. To find what works for you or to learn new things on a path of recovery, you have to empty yourself of the things you think you know. You have to be willing to try things you normally wouldn’t try, and you also have to allow yourself to experience them and make decisions based on those experiences. You have to create the space for change to occur and allow yourself to be changed. You don’t have to like everything you try, or fill yourself up with shit that, upon investigation, is just totally not for you. Discernment should come from experience, not just judgment or what your friend Sally said about Kundalini awakenings or what your uncle Ken said about The Fellowship.” ― Holly Whitaker,
