Josh Morgan, City of London Councillor – Ward 7 Happy Holidays & Best Wishes to Begin 2022!
As we move from the end of one year into the next, it is often a time for reflection on what we are thankful for and what matters most to us. For me that involves connecting
with friends and family and being thankful for the things I often take for granted. Let me thank you once again for the incredible honour and privilege of serving in elected office. This was also my first full year as Deputy Mayor of our City. Every single day I am thankful for your trust and confidence, and I will continue to work every day to make London an even better place to live, work, and raise a family. With another year of the pandemic now ending, 2022 will truly be a year filled with hope and optimism for the future. Please accept my best wishes for a safe and happy holiday season. I look forward to what 2022 will bring all of us. Happy Holidays frommy family to yours! Snow Removal Season Love it or hate it, the snow is on the way and that means shoveling and plowing. During winter storm, if your street is missed or there are any other issues with the snow removal in your area, you can email [email protected] and copy me at [email protected] so I can follow-up. This e-mail is monitored 24hrs a day during a snowfall event. You can also submit this information digitally at: https://service.london.ca/service-requests/report-snow-or-slippery/ Detailsonour snowremoval standards andanFAQpagecanbe found by visiting www.london.ca and searching for “Winter Maintenance”.
The City of London maintains 3,625 kms of roadway; 1,500 kms of sidewalk; 720 cul-de-sacs; and 2,100 bus stops. During the Multi-Year Budget I supported additional investments in snow removal to improve our response time by lowering the thresholds for clearing. Plows now head out sooner and more often.

HUTTON ROAD ELEMENTARYSCHOOL 1855-1972
Bound on all sides by pioneer homesteads, the parcel of farmland purchased for five shillings by the township in 1855 was an ideal location for a school. Named after Fred Hutton, who lived nearby, the one room school at Oxford and Hutton Road (later renamedWonderlandRoad) hadby1962, six rooms and a portable, the growing student body walking long distances (by today’s standards) to school, mostly from the expanding suburb of Oakridge Acres. Even in the later yearsof theschool, apopular recess pasttime was feeding grass to the horses on the other side of the schoolyard fence. After class, students might wade through Elliot’s Creek, looking for salamanders and tadpoles, near where the first McDonald’s Restaurant in London was built in 1968 – and still stands. All however is not lost. A registered charity that assists persons with disabilities, located on the back half of the old school property, is known as Hutton House. The school’s yellow brick was reclaimed and used for the strip mall located on the front half, and the school bell tower, purchased by a student, now forms part of the entranceway to his nearby home.

Feeling the Rythmn with Jess Jones Jess Jones is Therapeutic Recreation Profressional, and Recreation Therapy/Psychology Student, Artist, Educator and Mother with wide experience in healthcare including working with many populations, including elders and those living with dementia, independent and assisted living individuals and children. We asked about some of the services offered by Jess Jones Recreation Therapy: What is Recreation Therapy, and what are the benefits? Recreational therapy, also known as therapeutic recreation, is a systematic process that utilizes recreation and other activity-based interventions to address the assessed needs of individuals with illnesses and disabling conditions as a means to psychological and physical health, recovery and well-being. What is your most popular program? My most popular program right now is the Feel the Rhythm Drum Circles . People love it because it’s an opportunity to use music to support social, emotional and mental health. When we are together, we can practise mindfulness, get lost in the beat of the drum, and have fun! It’s always about having fun, and, at the end of this activity, the outcome is about finding meaning and purpose while exploring our inner work. What is most rewarding about your work? The most rewarding part of my work is that I support humans of all ages and abilities to see their self-worth, value, and strengths! I love that Recreation Therapy is a holistic approach to healthcare and healing people with the power of leisure! What is Aromatherapy Dough, and what are its benefits? I make Aromatherapy Dough which is closely related to play- doh. All of the dough I make is small-batch prepared and
made to order to ensure freshness! I use only natural dyes and fragrances to create a unique experience for the participant. Aromatherapy dough is an opportunity to activate our senses through scent, touch, and aids in relaxation, mindfulness and is an excellent coping tool. What do you like about living in (working in) Hyde Park? My family and I have been living in Hyde Park now for almost 8 years. We love Hyde Park for its community and easy access to amenities! I am very proud to openmy practice in Hyde Park – keep your eyes open for the Jess Jones Recreation Therapy van! To learn more visit www.jessjonesrecreationtherapy.com. ARTISTS ALLEY ArtVenture Art Studio
“Creating ArtVenture from ground-up has been a family dream and a personal highlight of my career in the field of Education,” says Ayala Reshef, Manager and Owner of ArtVenture Art Studio on Aldersbrook Road. “Coming from a long lineage of artists and photographers, I have been fully immersed in art appreciation my entire life. Like any form of art, the visual arts interact with the viewer on a visceral level, and it is precisely this deeply emotive connection that keeps me coming back for more. As an art teacher, I aim to infuse my classroom with the same level of love, passion, and appreciation for the visual arts and its rich history,” she says. Ayala brings forth 20 years of classroom experience with a B.Ed. degree and has taught art in Edmonton, Vancouver, Stratford, London (UK) and here in London. Her favourite art technique to teach is the brush stroke of post impressionism. “With its seemingly whimsical nature and its intent to evoke emotions within its viewers, I find the focus on using vivid colours, thick application of paint, and short brushstrokes to be quite freeing,” she says. “As we slowly shift our focus away from realistic depiction of the world around us, students of all ages grow to like Post Impressionism as they lean into their innate understanding of colour and the feelings colours evoke within us”. Nearly two decades ago, Ayala was attracted to the Hyde Park area for its “edge of town” feeling. “With forest in one direction and city-center in the other direction, Hyde Park is the perfect combination of urban and rural atmosphere. While the Hyde Park area continues to grow with the development of schools, housing, and small businesses all around us, it maintains the “edge of town” feeling that originally attracted me to this part of London. With walking trails and large green fields, Hyde Park is an ideal place to run an art studio and draw inspiration from the nature that surrounds us”. With Visual Art classes that focus on Painting, Drawing, and Sculpting there’s something of interest for anyone looking to explore and stretch their creativity. ArtVenture also offers March Break Art Camps and Summer Art Workshops with a focus on Visual Arts, Storyboarding, Creative Writing, and Sculpting. This letter worked hard to arrive! Sent in November 1917, this card passed through the censor in France and made its way to Hyde Park to Mrs. Arthur Scott in December 1917. Inside, a simple message: “With kind remembrance and best wishes for Christmas and the coming year” and signed by the sender. Why Invisalign? by Dr. Sbenati Why Choose Invisalign over Braces? Both braces and Invisalign are a solution for crooked teeth – but which is going to be right for you?

Braces are always an option – but they do need a lot of upkeep that make the process of straightening your smile more of a hassle than it should be. Dealing with metal brackets, adjusting the position of wiring, and causing minor discomforts like scrapes and tears are inconveniences most people don’t want to deal with. Wearing the clear aligners eliminates all the extra steps when compared with conventional braces while still giving you the results of straight teeth. This futuristic align technology works by using a custom invisible aligner designed to straighten your smile and deliver similar if not better results than braces. The advantages of Invisalign: The Invisible Treatment: Invisalign is a completely discrete solution allowing you to straighten teeth and improve your smile without the metal of traditional braces. The clear aligners fit perfectly on your teeth so you can smile with confidence, while still improving the form and shape of your teeth. Less Pain and More Convenient: Braces can cause an amount of discomfort and pain from small cuts and tares caused by sharp wires and brackets. Invisalign’s easy-fit aligners take away the pain by slipping onto your teeth comfortably without the need for metal wires. You are free to take them out to enjoy your favourite foods or taking part in your favourite activities. It is also much easier to brush your teeth (simply remove the aligner!). Easily maintained: Metal braces require constant check-ups without knowing the end-result. With Invisalign you get the results upfront. You and the Sbenati dental team can customize your Invisalign journey during consultation, so you can be confident that Invisalign is right for you. More Sanitary and Better for Dental Health: With the ability to quickly remove Invisalign aligners, you’ll be able to maintain your regular brushing and dental hygiene habits without taking extra steps for cleaning.

Cultural Cooking Dundee Cake by A Taste of Britain A Taste of Britain, a local outlet for British groceries, was established in the fall of 2001. The owners, who emigrated from Scotland in 1967, settled in the London area in 1976. The first store was opened on Oxford Street East and after a couple of moves to larger
premises, continues to be family owned and operated with a location at 2115 Aldersbrook Road (at Wonderland Rd. N.) and another at 9 Southdale Rd. E. (at Wharncliffe Rd.) with locations also in Sarnia and Chatham. A traditional Dundee cake comes from Dundee, Scotland. Here Rick of A Taste of Britain shares a Dundee cake recipe from his Mom, Ann.
Ingredients 4 oz. currants 4 oz. raisins 4 oz. sultanas 4 oz. candied peel 1 orange
10 oz. flour 8 oz. butter
8 oz. soft brown sugar 2 oz. whole almonds 4 eggs 1 lemon Directions
Grease and line an 8 inch tin. Prepare fruit, chop peel and nuts (leaving a few nuts for decorating the cake top) and grate orange and lemon peel. Mix dry ingredients. Cream the butter and sugar until light and creamy, then beat in eggs, one at a time, and lastly fold in dry ingredients. Put mixture into tin and arrange almonds on top. Bake in a slow oven (325° F., Mark 2) for 2.5 to 3 hours. When quite firm to the touch, remove from tin, and cool on rack.

The story of Dundee Marmalade begins back in the 18th century when a Spanish ship took refuge from a storm in the harbour at Dundee, Scotand. On board was a consignment of Seville Oranges which were purchased by a local grocer. Discovering they were too bitter to eat, the grocer’s wife boiled them with sugar, to create the delicious preserve now known as Dundee Orange Marmalade. A Taste of Britain stocks a large variety of British jams and marmalades, including MacKay’s Dundee Marmalade. Enjoy with tea and biscuits!
