Welcome to the Experience-Driven Lifestyle! LIFE ENHANCING OUTDOOR LIVING

For decades Denmark has consistently earned the top spot in the World Happiness Report. Why are Danish people so happy with their rainy weather and long winters? How do Americans rank? America consistently ranks below number 20 on the World Happiness Report . Our high-stress lifestyle combined with the ever-growing need to compete and stay busy is taking a toll on our personal lives and our families. A few years ago, we discovered the concept of hygge (pronounced hoog-uh) , while researching ways to help people decompress in their personal environments. Hygge loosely translates to: "The art of creating an atmosphere and experience that evokes feelings of of coziness, contentment, and connection with the people you love". To us, living in the fresh air (alfresco living), has always been restorative. Combining hygge with alfresco living was a perfect solution to our over-stressed lives. It just makes sense. To experience hygge one must consider the following equation: Hygge = Comforting Environment + Ambiance (soft light, sound, fragrance) + Relaxing Entertainment + Good Food + Your Favorite People. Applying the Concept of Hygge to Outdoor Living Design Capturing the restorative benefits of hygge in the design process begins by envisioning the types of experiences you hope to have in your new space. You'll determine how you and your loved ones relax, play, and connect. This experience-driven process means that your new outdoor spaces are designed and tailored to your unique way of connecting and de-stressing. It’s unlike any other design process for the outdoors. Embracing the concept of hygge means embracing the idea of prioritizing quality experiences with your loved ones. That's how our Experience- Driven process began. What do the happiest people in the world know that we don't?

The Experience-Driven Lifestyle The experience-driven lifestyle helps you envision the experiences that are meaningful to your family and translates those intentions into a well designed and crafted environment created to foster connection and relaxation. By focusing on creating meaningful experiences, your home becomes a safe haven to help your family escape your daily stresses. Creating hygge inspired experiences in the fresh air for a fulfilled life

Experience-Driven Design

Improving the well-being and fulfillment of people's lives by helping them determine the experiences that help them de-stress and connect with loved ones, then designing, crafting, and nourishing the outdoor environments that foster those experiences. Our process is inspired by combining Danish concept of hygge with the restorative benefits of the outdoors. How Does Experience-Driven Design Work? Determine the experiences you wish to cultivate then create the environment, atmosphere, and opportunity to make those experiences happen! As your guides, we'll walk you through the whole process. The Experience-Driven Lifestyle Living an intentionally fulfilled life focused on creating meaningful experiences and memories with your loved ones. Determine the memories you'd like to make and then determine how to make them happen. Then repeat that process routinely.

The Five Historical Styles The history of landscape design can be traced back to southern Europe when the wealthy began creating gardens for beauty instead of sustenance. As the concept of gardens designed for enjoyment spread throughout the world, five distinctive styles form the foundation of all styles we know and use today. By understanding these styles, we're able to create timeless designs that age with grace and beauty. The experience-driven concept can be applied to any style and any design aesthetic. Even if you prefer to combine two styles into your garden. Naturalized Gardens Sub-Styles: Prairie, Craftsman, Duch-Wave. Nature inspired gardens are easy care, free-form, full of soft, billowy texture and wildlife friendly.

Dutch-Wave pioneer Piet Oudolf helped foster this relaxed style throughout Europe. As we've translated versions of naturalized gardens in America, we include varying levels of bed space versus lawn and texture versus structure. Naturalized gardens can be adapted to any area of a property or home.

Country Gardens Sub-Styles: English, Cottage, French County

Country gardens are the romantic, old-fashioned landscapes filled with blooming shrubs, perennials, and cut flowers. Country gardens are often filled with a diverse variety of blooming plants and soft textures. Country gardens can be casual or semi-formal depending upon your tastes and architecture.

Formal Gardens

Sub-Styles: Italian and French Sophisticated, highly structured gardens comprised of hedges, geometric beds, and varying levels of symmetry. Throughout history, formal gardens are often the hallmark of European style. Italian gardens are some of the earliest recorded ornamental gardens in history and Romans are responsible for the spread of ornamental gardens throughout Europe.

Modern Gardens

Sub-Styles: Contemporary, Modern Modern gardens offer a clean, simplistic aesthetic based on uncomplicated architecture. The hallmarks of a modern garden are clean lines, un-fussy plant palettes, and texture derived from both plants and hard surfaces. Color variations are subtle and not always provided by blooms.

Asian Gardens

Sub-Styles: Japanese, Chinese, Oriental, Buddhist, Hindu Asian Gardens evolved from Hindu and Buddhist gardens historically. This explains the inclusion of spiritual aspects when designing authentic Asian gardens. Asian gardens are filled with natural elements, specimen features, and places to commune with nature.

Free isn't Free

EXPERIENCE-DRIVEN DESIGN

It can be overwhelming deciding who to have design, build, and care for your landscapes and outdoor living spaces. The process for creating beautiful outdoor environments begins with the design. While some businesses offer free designs or design credits, we believe that your design should be taken seriously. Outdoor living projects are serious investments and the time and effort required to produce exceptional designs is not free. Even if someone tells you it is. Free designs are either mediocre due to time constraints or the fees are hidden into your bids in other ways. Our unique design process combines the strategy of creating experiences in your outdoor spaces through the experience-driven lifestyle concept with identifying your unique design style and architecture. The end result is beautiful, functional, and meant to be lived in. There is no other process like it. Anyone can design a patio with a few plants around it. Not everyone can design an environment based on creating memorable experiences. Our prices are transparent because we have nothing to hide.

Questions

What are your project minimums and why do you have them? Question 1:

Our projects start at $10,000 with a range up to over $1,000,000. The only exception to this is pre-existing clients who we already know and have knowledge of their properties. Our business model is set up with skilled crews who each have a specialized combination of tools, equipment, and trucks. This particular arrangement helps our clients who need specialized help on large or complex projects. We simply cannot compete with cheaper options on small projects that require less skill or specialized equipment. It would not be fair to either party to waste your time. (Just like you wouldn't want a surgeon to treat a paper cut!)

What if I already have a design? Question 2:

We're happy to provide our custom quality and service for the project management, building, and after-care of our outdoor spaces. Instead of beginning by selecting a design package, you'll schedule a site-analysis. The site-analysis will provide the roadmap to construction and accurate estimating with less surprises and a more enjoyable experience. Site-analysis packages begin at $250 and include a comprehensive site, architecture, and construction evaluation.

Who does the construction? Question 3:

Over 98% of our project scopes are completed with our own staff. We have stone masons, horticulturalists, project managers, equipment operators, and a full support staff. On the rare occasion we need to manage a subcontractor, it will be for electricians, plumbers, or rare one- off services such as artists, supplemental contractors, or a client's preferred provider. How do you schedule your crews? Question 4:

Projects are scheduled once a contract is signed and retainer is received. Our crews are broken down by specialty and managed by a project manager.

Questions

Did an architect design your national award winners? Question 5:

No. Every single award winning project High Prairie has won has been designed in-house with our own design staff. While we compete against architects for our national awards, our degrees are based in horticultural design. There is value in both types of design education and they often inter-mix. Our talented designers provide all concepts and analysis for projects ranging from $10,000 to over $1,000,000 in-house. While we have skilled design staff, we are also happy to work with your preferred architect or designer.

Why don't you offer concrete patios? Question 6:

How long do I have to wait for my project to start? Question 7: Project timelines are based on the season and scope. It is common for projects to start between 10 and 15 weeks after you've committed. For scopes that require products from Europe, the wait can be 16-20 weeks. Our advice is to start early and communicate with your designer. Openings can happen sooner on a rare occasion. While concrete serves as an excellent foundation for paver and brick overlay projects, we do not offer finished concrete to our clients. While we don't judge someone who prefers concrete, we simply cannot promise concrete will age gracefully. Our brand promise focuses on the concept of lasting beauty. Unfortunately, concrete cracks, peels, and fades with our Kansas City weather extremes. We provide paver, stone, and brick patios and driveways because they age beautifully and last longer if crafted to our standards. Once my project starts, how will I know what's happening? Question 8: You'll have your own project portal where you'll see progress updates, communicate with your construction team, monitor financials, and schedule appointments.

Questions

What if I can't afford to do my entire project at once? Question 9:

It's very common to create a master-plan for your project and then phase the construction based on your priorities, budget, and scope. Phasing allows you to create a long-term plan without sacrificing quality or style. Enhancements can also often be added at a later date. Enhancements are things like:

Lighting Sound Systems Accents or Art Pergola or Shade Structures

My new build or interior project went over budget. Now what? Question 10:

Will my project require a permit? Who obtains the permit? Question 11: Permitting is based upon your local and community ordinances. As licensed general contractors, High Prairie is happy to help obtain needed permits as part of a project management package. We also often assist with HOA approvals. Exterior projects often happen after an interior project or entire home build has been completed. Pricing volatility today means that those projects are sometimes going over the planned budget, leaving less available for your outdoor spaces. Your best strategy is to create your ideal master plan for the outdoor spaces and then phase it as you need. (We can create the master plan for you!) Priorities for these types of situations will consider your goals, budget, and required scope for occupancy permitting. The ever evolving local ordinances mean that permit requirements sometimes change. Our process it to verify requirements with your city and pursue any needed permitting at that time. What if I need help with maintaining my outdoor spaces? Question 12: Our garden care division offers full service care when openings are available. We do have a waitlist in certain communities, so check on availability to ensure there are openings.

Who We Are

What if a company set out to challenge the status quo of corner cutting and mediocracy within the landscaping and outdoor living industries? What if we believed that you deserve more. You deserve peace-of-mind with life- improving service and design. What if your improved landscape and outdoor spaces were designed, built, and maintained by professionals who are educated, have clean backgrounds, and stay year after year to serve you better? Humble Beginnings Our small, family-owned business was started by one woman in 2010 after witnessing poor quality and poor employee treatment within our industry. Robyn Schmitz started out with nothing but an old Jeep and the desire to help people experience a different kind of outdoor living company. A company who believes in treating all people, both clients and employees, the way they deserve to be treated. A company who delivers a rare caliber of design, craftsmanship, and service. We’re still small enough to care but large enough to deliver exceptional results on both complicated outdoor construction projects and complex garden care programs. We’ll never be the cheapest, but we’ll provide value for every dollar through lasting quality, peace-of- mind, and maximizing your property’s potential. You deserve no less.

Thank You...

Thank you for considering our small business. You have choices and we're honored. We're delighted to get to know you and your family. Business is built on relationships and we're your neighbors. As you've learned by now, we're a different kind of company. We're not JUST a landscape company or JUST a hardscape company. We're designing, building, and nourishing natural environments crafted to provide a comprehensive experience of relaxation, contentment, and human connection in the fresh air of your own garden and outdoor spaces. Welcome to the experience-driven lifestyle!
