Brahamhelps tackle climate change
Warrenpoint-based electrical contractors, Braham Electrical has signed a £1 million contract to install EV charging and hydrogen infrastructure at three Translink sites, Milewater, Short Strand and Newtownabbey in preparation for 145 zero and low emission buses. The Citybus Zero Emissions project for Henry Brother Ltd, is part of the decarbonisation of public transport in Northern Ireland. Speaking to Ireland’s Electrical Magazine, Managing Director of Braham Electrical, Ciaran McQuaid said: “With the world’s focus on climate change and green energy at the moment, we are pleased to be part of Translink’s Zero Emissions Strategy and with it, continue to add to our extensive portfolio of Translink projects.” Representing an investment of around £66 million by the Department for Infrastructure, the vehicles will initially be deployed to Metro and Foyle Metro services in Belfast and Derry/Londonderry and are expected to be in service by 2022. The first three hydrogen-powered double decker buses ordered earlier this year are due to enter passenger service before the end of 2021. They will only emit water, no greenhouse gases or other pollutants, and are the first of their kind in Ireland.

IrwinM&Eopens newly refurbishedMalluskoffice
Irwin M&E was delighted with their newly refurbished Mallusk office which has been transformed to make better use of the space available. The focus of the project was to upgrade the existing facilities and systems, while also improving energy efficiency. The project has introduced three new spacious meeting rooms, four new single person offices, a hot-desk area and incorporated a general reconfiguration of the open plan office. This includes sound reducing acoustic panels to reduce noise transfer throughout the open plan area of the office. In addition, a new VRF air conditioning system was installed to provide heating and cooling to all spaces, and air quality has been improved
with the installation of a new heat recovery system to provide continual air changes. Mechanical and electrical works were undertaken by Irwin M&E with the assistance of regular supply chain partners. New energy- efficient LED lighting has been installed, complete with zoned presence detection and the office interior is now branded in Irwin M&E’s corporate colours. Keith Stewart, Managing Director told Ireland’s Electrical Magazine: “We want our staff to feel comfortable at work, and we are delighted to deliver this much improved office space. The refurbishment has allowed us to improve the work environment while also ensuring our office is as energy efficient as possible.”
