I am very excited to help patients with missing or broken teeth regain both the confidence and appearance of youth, and those who have noticed new lines or wrinkles that don’t match their confident smile! Depending on the product and location, patients can expect a significant improvement in wrinkles and frown lines that would only need to be maintained either annually or a few times a year. For those younger patients who have not yet seen all the signs of aging, Botox and facial fillers are a great way to prevent wrinkles and facial lines or to boost your smile with fuller, smoother lips; either way, we can come up with a treatment that will give you more confidence in your overall appearance. Additionally, Botox and Dysport have finally provided dentistry with a non-invasive treatment for patients with a “gummy” smile or excessive display of gum tissue when they smile or laugh that does not require extensive surgery. If you have noticed or been bothered by increasing facial wrinkles or have always been under the assumption that you were stuck with a “gummy” smile, please make sure to ask us about how your specific situation could be treated the next time you are in the office. I think you will definitely enjoy being able to turn back the clock on some wrinkles! NEW SERVICES MEAN YOU CAN LOOK AND FEEL EVEN BETTER
Before and after treatment with Dysport
O ne of the things I enjoy most about dentistry is the constant advancements that provide more options to not only improve patients’ oral health, but also allow us to help our patients attain a more beautiful and confident smile. Staying at the forefront of advancements in technology, materials, and techniques can be daunting at times, however I am extremely grateful to be in a profession that allows me the opportunity to improve our patients’ quality of life and their overall confidence by improving their smile. One service you may not be aware of is injectable pharmacologics, including Botox, Dysport, and dermal fillers such as Restylane. Sitting in consults with patients every day, one comment I hear often is concern with facial lines, wrinkles, and aging. We especially hear this with patients concerned about having lost facial bone from missing teeth or ill-fitting dentures. While bone and volume loss from missing teeth absolutely contributes to the aging and “sunken-in” look, many patients who are not missing teeth are also asking us why they seem to have less facial volume. Most people are unaware that, as we age, not only does our skin get thinner, drier, and less elastic, but we also see the loss of facial fat. Together, these can lead to “volume depletion,” or in other words, the disappearance of the full and soft contours of youth. While we can greatly improve facial appearance with implants in patients missing their teeth, until recently there was not much else we could offer. However, that has all changed as dentistry has continued to advance, and we can now offer solutions with Botox and facial fillers.

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX
Unconventional Summer Jobs for Teens
As your teen becomes more independent, they may be interested in getting a summer job. Whether they want to save up for a big purchase or just have some extra spending money, summer jobs can solidify the importance of hard work and responsibility for your child. Plus, the earlier your teen starts, the sooner they can learn how to manage their money. Fast-food restaurants and clothing stores are popular first jobs, but encourage your teen to think outside the box and try one of these creative money-making opportunities. Online Surveys and Reviews Companies are eager for consumer feedback, and they are willing to pay for it. Sites like Swagbucks and MySurvey offer members the opportunity to complete tasks like taking surveys, writing reviews, and watching videos to redeem rewards in the form of cash or gift cards. Teens can also preview up-and-coming music as reviewers on Slice the Pie. Sites like these require quite a bit of work for a relatively small wage, but they can be the perfect first job for a child who wants to try earning a few bucks for the first time. Teens under the age of 18 will require parental consent.
are no membership fees, and after Etsy’s 3.5 percent cut, sellers receive their profits via PayPal. Minors age 13–17 must have a parent or legal guardian manage their Etsy account. Petsitting and Housesitting If your teen is trustworthy and responsible, there’s no reason they can’t work for neighbors, friends, and family. Most professional petsitting and housesitting services require their sitters to be over 18, but Care.com allows teens 14–17 to register as “Teen Providers” with parental consent. Depending on where you live and how much experience your teen has, they can expect to earn $15–30 per visit, and they may be able to ask for more to stay overnight. Help your teen get the word out by posting on social media. Most importantly, keep your teen safe by helping them screen clients and teaching them what information to share. Summer jobs are a great way for teens to earn extra cash and learn responsibility. The next time your teen asks you for money to go to the movies, encourage them to earn some spending cash of their own. Who knows? They might actually treat you to a movie sometime!
Virtual Storefronts If your child has a flare for arts, crafts, or anything else DIY, encourage them to set up an Etsy shop. There
WHAT OUR PATIENTS ARE SAYING
“I highly recommend Jones Smiles for many reasons, including quality work, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and range of services offered. Years ago, I had a horribly painful dental experience at another dentist office, which has left me a dental chair coward, to say the least. My hygienist, Rachel, along with Dr. Copeland, go a long way to not only ‘cater to cowards’ like me, but also never make me feel like a weirdo for being nervous. “My whole family (kids aged 12 and 17) are also patients at Jones Smiles, and we have had nothing but good experiences with them!” –AMY F.
“This is an extremely professional, caring, and friendly dentist location. They are very committed to being informative to you and caring that your dental experience is as pain-free as can be expected. I haven’t been to a dentist for 30 years and have quite a bit of issues — but I am very happy I did my research and chose to go to Jones Smiles. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!” –LAURIE S. “The most pleasant, gentle, kind dental practice I’ve ever been to. They actually get to know you and seem to genuinely care about you as a person, not an insurance payout. I’m encouraging my friends and family to switch.” –LACEY S.

The Hidden Dental Source of Your Headaches and Shoulder Pain
How We Treat TMD
If you have recurring headaches, aching shoulders, a strained neck, and aching or popping jaws, it may not just be the result of too many hours spent at the office or bad ergonomics in your daily life. In fact, you may be suffering from temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD, commonly referred to as TMJ), a complex disorder of the jaw joint and muscles that leads to pain and limited mobility. Various factors can cause TMD, including trauma, stress, hormonal changes, or improperly aligned jaws. Sometimes teeth are worn down or missing due to accident or disease, and your jaw can no longer settle into its natural, relaxed position. In response, muscles in the area become tense, and pain radiates from the jaw outward. Often patients become accustomed to this pain without realizing how much it’s affecting their quality of life. Luckily, TMD is nearly always treatable by simply addressing your dental malocclusion and returning your jaw to its natural position. Often, this will involve using Invisalign to straighten your teeth and correct any problems with your bite. This advanced
dental technology, honed over years and used by millions of patients, uses virtually invisible, removable aligners to straighten your teeth without clunky metal braces, wires, or headgear. And the transformation happens much quicker than with older technologies — you can expect to feel better in just 9–15 months! For patients suffering with persistent headaches or even migraines, we have another solution that doesn’t require drugs or surgery. We can provide you with an NTI device, a small oral appliance that relaxes the muscles near the scalp, relieving the tension that causes the large majority of headaches. In clinical trials of this FDA-approved device, 82 percent of patients had 77 percent fewer migraine events. It’s easy to use, effective, and very affordable. If you’re suffering from an aching head, sore neck muscles, or the symptoms of a misaligned jaw line, there’s no reason to deal with it any longer. Call Dr. Jones and the Jones Smiles team at 770-965-3048 and take the first step toward a pain-free life and a beautiful, healthy smile! SMILE-FRIENDLY RECIPES
