MEET THE ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM THAT MAKES KAIZEN PT FUNCTION

I’m grateful for every employee at Kaizen Physical Therapy, but in honor of Administrative Professionals Week this April, I want to use this space to recognize the hard work and dedication of our three administrative staff members. They have helped this practice grow in so many ways, and I feel incredibly lucky to have them on this team. They do so much more for this office than I could ever fit on one page. MEL I consider Mel to be my right hand.

insurance companies. Her goal is to ensure that patients receive accurate and timely billing statements, which is very considerate given how difficult it can be to keep insurance companies accountable. I also rely on Machelle’s reports for the various decisions I have to make on a daily basis. She tracks metrics with precision, and I need the most accurate information available to make the best decisions for the clinic. She’s a vital behind-the-scenes component to our daily operations and our larger goals. ALYSE

She takes so much off my plate and ensures both the practical and medical components of this clinic are operating at a high level. Mel serves two roles here at Kaizen Physical Therapy. There’s the patient-facing role, in which she’s scheduling appointments, making sure patients who only

We recently brought Alyse on to the team to assist Mel in the day- to-day patient communication tasks, and we could not have found a better person to supplement this work. Alyse is efficient and quickly responds to patients. She’s often helping patients reschedule or confirm new appointments, and she does

schedule a few appointments at once are not forgotten, and answering incoming phone calls. Then there’s the vital marketing component to her job, which often sees her planning and executing our print and digital communication with clients and managing our workshop calendar. Mel is very skilled at multi-tasking. She could be coordinating online Zoom appointments during a February snowstorm one minute, then calling all workshop registrants to confirm their bookings the next. She also manages to keep our “Wall of Fame,” featuring testimonials and photos from patients, up to date to ensure that our potential patients understand just how beneficial our treatments can be. Mel handles her hectic schedule with grace, and I can trust her to do anything. She keeps Kaizen running! MACHELLE

so with great consideration for what each patient needs. This is a huge benefit for our care staff, who rely on an efficient schedule. Like Mel, Alyse is constantly multi-tasking. She’s often managing new patient emails, faxing details, answering the phone, and helping our physical therapists keep all their paperwork up to date. Furthermore, Alyse has been vital to ensuring that our clinic stays caught up on nuanced needs. Alyse has been completing our monthly compliance tasks every month. Should we be audited by the state, we can prove that we are following proper codes and procedures based on Alyse’s meticulous record-keeping. She’s also been updating our internal referral list. This allows us to ensure we are properly budgeting to acquire patients we can help. The next time you’re in the clinic, I encourage you to thank each one of these hardworking women for their contributions to our clinic and to your healing journey. We couldn’t help you without their dedication! Thank you, Mel, Machelle, and Alyse.

We rely on Machelle to keep the lights on at Kaizen Physical Therapy. Machelle handles our billing, and as an experienced medical biller, she’s proven to be an invaluable member of our team. Machelle will track down every penny we’re owed from

As people grow older, they’re more likely to find themselves at home with less company. If your family members live far away or you have physical limitations that make it difficult to leave the house, you may be at an increased risk of experiencing loneliness. This is why adopting an animal can be so helpful. Pets offer comfort and love, and many encourage physical activity. Integrating a pet into your life as you grow older can be just what you need to lift your spirit and keep you healthy. The Benefits of Pet Ownership A lack of purpose can take a significant toll, but the sense of duty pet owners have around caring for their animals helps them avoid this. The daily tasks of feeding, playing with, and walking your animal can help provide structure and bring meaning to your life. They also give you something to look forward to each day. What’s better than waking up or coming home to a wagging tail or loud meow? This is how pets help improve their owners’ mental and physical health. Studies also show that those who care for pets have less stress and lower blood pressure and cholesterol than their petless counterparts. You’re also more likely to maintain a daily exercise routine. FELINE FRIENDS OR CANINE COMRADES HOW PETS IMPROVE OUR HEALTH AND HAPPINESS

Humans have an innate need to be social, and without someone to talk to regularly, our mental well-being can start to deteriorate. Pets may not be the best conversation partners, but they may increase your social activity. Walking a dog to a local park every day, for example, can provide an opportunity for you to interact with other people. If you live alone, this simple activity can increase your social circle and improve your mental health. Find the Right Pet Before taking advantage of the many benefits pets offer, it’s crucial to consider which pet is right for you. Doing research can help answer important questions about which animals might be a good fit for you and your lifestyle and which aren’t. Finding a perfect match may take some time, but once that connection is made, there is nothing that will bring more joy into both of your lives. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a list of questions that will help guide you to the perfect pet. Take a look at CDC.gov/healthypets .

DON’T SLEEP ON THESE TRACKING DEVICES WANT A BETTER NIGHT’S REST?

Sleep is essential for good health. It recharges your body and helps you start your day refreshed and alert. With so many wearable devices and sleep tracking apps on the market now, you may be wondering if you should be tracking your sleep. If any of the following apply to you, you may benefit from using a sleep tracker. • You have difficulty sleeping soundly. You wake up repeatedly throughout the night, either due to environmental noises (a snoring partner) or a sleep disorder (sleep apnea). • You feel exhausted during the day. When you don’t get enough sleep at night, you’ll feel tired during the day and may have difficulty focusing and be less productive.
