SEPT 2021
Labor Day often makes us think about barbecues and extra time for relaxation or shopping — but it should also remind us of our colleagues and American workers who always go the extra mile. In my life and business, there’s nobody who goes the extra mile like Ashley Glasser-Konecky, my wife. In 2011 after my father passed away, Ashley was my full-time legal assistant for four years, until our daughter Jade came into the world. She’s always had a hand in the success of the firm, whether it meant calling insurance companies or providing updates for clients, or just being a sounding board for difficult cases. In fact, since the beginning, clients have always had a connection with her. Her bright, compassionate personality isn’t easily forgotten, and we still get our older clients asking all the time about how she’s doing. While she might not be calling medical providers for paperwork anymore, behind the scenes Ashley still does a lot for our firm that not many people know about. For one, she’s always been our editor-in-chief, whether it’s for our newsletter, our website, our blog, our books, or numerous other projects. Before anything goes online for people to read from our firm, she’s the one who carefully reviews it and makes any necessary changes. It brings out one aspect I’ve always appreciated and admired about Ashley: her attention to detail. She’s a stickler for details. Sometimes, to my chagrin, she wants to dive deep into a topic or story, and I’m the one who has to tell her, “Great stuff, but remember, we don’t have enough pages.” Ashley is the kind of person who loves to overdeliver, and I think we can all learn a lot from her dedication and commitment. full-time mom. Of course, as her husband, I can testify that she’s an incredible mother and partner. Her keen eye and loving heart never fail to keep our home happy and healthy, and she keeps the ship running smoothly at home with our daughter, Jade.

The minute you meet Ashley, you know she’s something special.
Anyone can tell just how big her heart is. Whatever she does, she’s invested in it, and she does it with intention. Her sweet, calming demeanor matches her selfless heart, and I couldn’t be more appreciative or lucky to have her in my life. Thank you so much, Ashley! I love you!
Although she does awesome work at the firm to this day, her full-time job isn’t at our office anymore — it’s at home being a

3 Ways to Keep Your Phone Clean Is Your Phone a Superspreader?
Download These Books Today ! When it comes to the legal process, you may have a lot of questions. Well, I have answers! Right now, I am offering my two resource books for free. YOUR LEGALRESOURCE DON’T SHARE DEVICES. This one will take a little practice. Think about all the places our phones go: up to our faces, into our hands, onto counters, into our purses or backpacks — you get the picture. Now think about where our hands go and how many of those germs are then transferred onto our phones and tablets. Do you really want a stranger’s — or dozens of your child’s closest friends’ — germs on your phone? They will surely get on your hands, against your face, and sit on your kitchen counter. Don’t share devices outside of your immediate family, unless it’s an emergency, and consider alternatives. For example, offer to place the phone call yourself if a person needs to use your phone. Also, remind your child to think of their phone like a toothbrush: It’s theirs and theirs alone. JUST WASH YOUR HANDS. You’re sick of hearing about it, but proper hand-washing techniques can protect you from the transmission of germs and infections. Plus, when you wash your hands consistently, you remove the possibility of transferring those bad germs onto your phone, where they can linger.
As your children return to school and in-person instruction, the routine once lost to COVID-19 and summertime fun seems to have returned. Everything seems “normal” again — right down to the return of fall sniffles, colds, and flus. To avoid the “back-to-school plague,” as many professionals call it, you would hope that recent insistence on hand-washing, sanitizing, and staying socially distanced would remain a habit, but we all know how kids can be. And as more children and teens use cellphones, their risk of spreading germs increases, too.
This back-to-school season, keep some of our dirtiest devices clean — cellphones and tablets — with these doctor-recommended tips.
“In a short period of time, Mr. Konecky gave sound legal advice to me that didn’t necessarily benefit him, yet he was helpful, honest, and very professional. Thank you, and I would highly recommend you.” –Chris S. “Matthew Konecky is definitely one of the best, if not the best, attorneys in Palm Beach. I’ve had the pleasure of obtaining his services for multiple offenses as well as always recommending him to my friends and family. He makes the best out of the worst situations every time. Super professional, willing to work with you, and above all extremely knowledgeable of the law!” –Koke H. AMESSAGE FROM THE FAITHFUL WASH YOUR PHONE REGULARLY. This feels like a no-brainer, but many of us don’t wash our phones enough. Short of dunking the device in a tub of bleach, the easiest way to eliminate germs from your phone is to use an alcohol wipe or sanitizing cloth. Simply sanitize the phone lightly throughout the day. There are even eco-friendly products, like Zagg’s UV sanitizers and cleaners, to make cleanliness even greener! These products use light to zap away germs!

WHIPLASH ISN’T A SMALL INJURY Here’s How to Recognize It
If you were involved in a car accident, there is a chance you might have whiplash. Whiplash isn’t necessarily a condition, but rather a cluster of symptoms that can appear immediately or with a delayed onset after a car accident. WHAT IS WHIPLASH? Whiplash occurs when your head or neck is subjected to a sudden, forceful back-and-forth or side-to-side motion. It is not a minor injury, so if you think you are suffering from whiplash after a car accident, there is a good chance that you are. The most common symptoms include sore or stiff neck, headache, neck strain, limited range of motion in the neck, strained neck muscles, tingling sensations (in the neck, back, or arms), unusual dizziness or drowsiness, pain or soreness in the shoulders or back, and overall soreness in the body. SHOULD I GO TO THE DOCTOR FOR WHIPLASH? If you have been involved in a car accident, especially a rear-end or side collision, it is imperative to seek medical attention as soon as possible. While someone may feel minor soreness after an accident and brush it off, delayed whiplash symptoms can occur later on. Whiplash injuries often result in severe pain leading to loss of income as your ability to work can become restricted due to loss of mobility. A doctor can evaluate you for whiplash symptoms and recommend treatment based on your injuries. Seeking medical attention after an accident also protects your right to recover financially as it shows you are doing all that you can to return to normal. A personal injury case is based on
your injuries, and those must be documented by a doctor first. Without seeking medical attention after an accident, your ability to obtain compensation for your injuries will be limited. Even if you seek medical attention after a car accident, not following doctors’ orders can decrease your chances of having a successful outcome with your personal injury case. HOW DO I FILE A PERSONAL INJURY CASE? After seeking medical attention for a car accident, the next step is to contact an experienced local personal injury lawyer. Florida law allows up to four years to make a legal claim for damages after a car accident. You are not required to wait until you have significant medical expenses due to an accident before making a claim. It is much more beneficial to make a claim as soon as any effects of the car accident are felt. Our expert legal team at Law Offices of Matthew Konecky can help you and your family get proper justice — just give us a call.

Watermelon Jicama Salad
This late-summer salad hits every flavor note and is a great way to get acquainted with jicama, a root vegetable native to Mexico that you’ve probably passed numerous times in the produce section! It’s easy to prepare (just peel and eat) and has the crispness of an apple and the satisfying starch of potato.
Ingredients
• • • •
1 3-lb seedless watermelon
• • •
1/2 cup cilantro, coarsely chopped
1 small jicama
3 tbsp fresh lime juice Kosher salt, to taste
1 jalapeño pepper, thinly sliced
1 scallion, thinly sliced
Directions
1. Prepare the watermelon by removing the rind and cutting the melon into 2 1/2-by- 1/2-inch sticks. 2. Peel the jicama with a vegetable peeler, then cut it into sticks the same size as the watermelon. 3. In a large bowl, combine the watermelon and jicama with jalapeño, scallion, cilantro, and lime. Sprinkle with kosher salt, toss gently to combine, taste, and adjust seasoning.

Nothing to See Here: Mystery Spot Tourism
Nothing to See Here
AHistory of the Mystery Spot
The most famous mystery spot is in Santa Cruz, California, but it has cousins in Oregon, West Virginia, and Michigan. Each one is inexplicable — drawing thousands of people every year to come and spend their tourist dollars. And for many, the whole thing is just one big hoax, designed to take in suckers and generate cash.
Although Santa Cruz has the most visitors, it was “inspired” by the Oregon Vortex, which was a spot that had odd occurrences “documented” back to the early frontier days. From a mining office sliding off its foundation to the high presence of optical illusions, the Vortex was the home to some odd events. Naturally, the thing to do was build a structure there and start taking people’s money! It’s not a coincidence that these locations began to pop up at the same time as the average American got access to automobiles — “roadside attractions” of all kinds have been the rage since people began to tour America by car, and it’s pretty clear that, real or not, these mystery spots fall into that category. That’s why many of them have updated over the years to suit changing tastes — such as the Michigan St. Ignace Mystery Spot’s addition of zip lines and other attractions. And unlike many other roadside attractions, mystery spots continue to draw attention. Something in the American psyche loves the idea of the paranormal; Google “Europe mystery spots” and you’re likely to discover lists of unique vacation destinations. Perhaps they recapture the “paradise is just over the hill” mystery that in part drove colonization of the American West.
Or perhaps it’s all a bunch of hooey. The best way to decide, of course, is to visit one of these mystery spots for yourself
