(continued from outside)
Causes of Osteoarthritis While the exact mechanisms of howOA starts are not known, a lifestyle of inactivity, poor diet, weakness in an area, injury, or disease can accelerate osteoarthritis in people, even in young adults. Your cartilage is a shock absorber for your joints and depends on your overall health and nutrition to survive the relentless daily pounding it takes. Over time, joint alignment and muscle weakness around a joint can significantly affect the pressure on the cartilage causing it to wear down faster. 5 Symptoms of Osteoarthritis What most people are not aware of is that arthritis in the spine, knees, hips, and fingers are themost common areas for Osteoarthritis to occur. The symptoms typically come on slowly, but as the disease continues more symptoms occur such as:
1. Pain in a joint.
2. Swelling or tenderness in one or more joints.
3. Stiffness after periods of sitting or inactivity. This is especially noted when getting up in the morning.
4. Flare-ups of pain and inflammation after using the arthritic joint.
5. Crunching feeling or sounds of bone rubbing on bone (called crepitus) when moving the joint.

RELIEVING ARTHRITIS PAIN NATURALLY!
How Osteoarthritis Affects You
What Can Help Arthritis Many people think that once they have arthritis nothing can be done about it except take anti- inflammatory medications, supplements, and in worst case scenario prepare for a joint replacement surgery. However, what most people don’t know is that physical therapy is one of the most effective treatments for Osteoarthritis and can help relieve symptoms significantly. Whether you have been suffering for a short or long time, a lot can be done to help joint alignment, stability, and pain.
Pain?
Physical therapy focuses on the body’s ability to engage in movement. Movement can be anything from getting in and out of chairs to climbing stairs, walking in your neighborhood, playing a sport or doing recreational activities. Goals of physical therapy in arthritis include improving the mobility and restoring the use of affected joints, increasing strength to support the joints, and maintaining fitness and the ability to perform daily activities.
Our physical therapy focuses on addressing your individual problem, improving normal mobility, and strengthening the muscles around the joint. Different treatments are performed to relieve pain, swelling, and restore muscle balance around the affected joint. We then teach you valuable techniques on how to maintain your joint health so you can get back to the activities you enjoy. Therefore, you can have a life with less pain and more movement. Call us today to find out how!

I’ve been able to sleep without waking up with pain... “Since therapy I can raise my arm and it doesn’t hurt so I can put a coat on. I have noticed a definite improvement in my walking. “Since starting therapy, I have noticed a definite improvement in my walking. I tend to favor the right knee causing me to limp, but this is less pronounced. Going up and down stairs is no longer a challenge.” - D.C.

BRIDGES Lie flat on your back and bend your knees. Extend your arms out beside your body and lift your bottom off of the ground and slowly return back down to the floor.
MINI SQUATS Start with your feet shoulder width apart and toes pointed straight ahead. Next, bend your knees approximately 30 degrees of flexion to perform a mini squat as shown. Then, return to original position. Knees should bend in line with the 2nd toe and not pass the front of the foot.
Always consult your physical therapist or physician before starting exercises you are unsure of doing.
