Welcome BRIAN BERRY T he FMB has a proud history of speaking up for apprenticeships, which isn’t surprising as I know many members started out as apprentices themselves.
“Of all the people working in construction, women comprise only 10.9%. Even smaller is the
of adequate training, and negative perceptions of women working in construction. International Women’s Day on 8 March is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also provides an opportunity to think about what we can be doing to make the construction industry a more attractive workplace for women. Read more about this on page 23. Managing price hikes As the country continues to battle with the impact of the pandemic, both members and consumers are struggling with rising prices most notably for building materials. There have been, over the last two years, some eye-watering price increases, coupled with scarcity of materials making it ever more challenging for builders to complete or even start projects. In this edition we look at managing material price increases on pages 24-25. Finally, I’m very proud to let you know that the FMB was given ‘Gold’ accreditation by Investors in People (IiP) in December 2021. The FMB was credited for being, ‘a modern and progressive organisation’ and being ‘an inspiring case study in great people management, great leadership,
