Sharing Your Stories Irving Seager Continues to Amaze at Memory Care of Little Rock
where he served from 1950 to 1953. He met Betty George Seager while at a church conference in Arkansas, and the couple was married on Oct. 29, 1956. Irving would eventually become a high school biology teacher and help Betty raise two daughters. He taught students until he was 70 years old, but long before then, his reputation as a handy, helpful, and kind man had been cemented.
“He’s just an amazing, amazing man,” Karen says. “My dad never gave up on me, never spanked us, and never put us down.”
Irving has called Memory Care of Little Rock his home for the past three years, when he and Betty moved into the community together. Betty had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and Irving had lost his short-term memory as the result of a stroke. Betty has since passed away. Karen visits her father every day. “It’s hard for me, but he sleeps, and then the next day it’s a whole new ball game. He’ll say, ‘I haven’t seen you in a long time …’ But [Memory Care of Little Rock] are doing the best they can.” Today, Irving and Karen can’t physically be together, due to protective measures taken by Memory Care America to limit the effects of COVID-19. However, Karen swings by her father’s window when the weather is nice. She sings him a tune, and he follows along with his violin. When everything returns to normal, Karen hopes she and Irving can return to their regular Thursday show slot, performing for the Memory Care of Little Rock community. It’s just another way Karen says she feels connected with her father and knows he’s in a good place. “I know he’s safe. I know he’s well taken care of,” Karen says. “I know they really care about him.”
Karen Seager Curley never knew her father, Irving Seager, could play the violin by ear— until a stroke brought up old memories from when he was 12 years old and learning to play. It’s just one of many ways Karen has found she can connect with her father, despite dementia causing his short-term memory to become almost nonexistent. Born in 1929, Irving has lived a life worth remembering. Upon college graduation, Irving was drafted into the Korean War,

Staying Active This Spring Our Memory Care America Communities
Spring is in the air at our Memory Care communities, and between the change of the seasons, birthdays, and St. Patrick’s Day, we have had plenty of reasons to stay active. Check out what our communities have been up to! Note: Some of these events were held prior to COVID-19 safety measures intensifying. Two communities that really got into the spring spirit were Memory Care of Little Rock and Memory Care of Simpsonville . In Little Rock, residents and staff filled bird feeders in anticipation of spring visitors, while our Simpsonville residents planted gorgeous plants!
Elsewhere, the celebrating was a wee bit Irish. Memory Care of New Braunfels and Memory Care of Westover Hills both celebrated special birthdays and St. Patrick’s Day with parties and treats! And finally, our Memory Care of Naples residents had some special messages to share with their loved ones. If you have a soft spot in your heart for the work we do, then don’t keep it a secret! Referrals are the best compliments you can give us. Direct those who could benefit from our services to MemoryCareAmerica.com or find us on Facebook.

GOOD OL’ GARLIC Memory Care Wellness
And Everything We Love About It
Health Throughout history, garlic has been used to treat wounds, cure asthma, combat diseases, and even fight gangrene. Today, its recognized health benefits are a little more practical but no less astounding. Garlic contains vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that can boost immunity, reduce inflammation, lower cholesterol, promote healthy hair and skin, and fight fungus and bacteria. The best way to take advantage of these benefits is by eating it raw, but if you can’t deal with the lingering stinky breath, following proper cooking methods can still yield healthy results. How-Tos When buying garlic, avoid shriveled or soft bulbs. Its shelf life is roughly eight weeks if the skin is unbroken, and around two weeks for individual cloves. Garlic works well in recipes that call for its relatives, like onions, shallots, and leeks. When cooking with garlic, the finer you mince and mash, the more flavor you’ll get. You should also let your garlic rest between chopping and cooking, and add it to the pan near the end of the recipe to better preserve its nutrients and flavor. Garlic breath can often be combated with a little bit of lemon juice, but if you’d rather let it linger and savor the flavor, your secret is safe with us!
Did you know that there are over 2.5 million acres of garlic in cultivation worldwide? It’s no wonder: Garlic boasts a fascinating history, has unparalleled health benefits, and is used in so many different types of cuisine around the world. Plus, garlic just makes recipes tasty! National Garlic Day is April 19, so here are some facts to help you brush up on your knowledge and celebrate it to the fullest.
History Humans have been using garlic for a variety of purposes for over 5,000 years. It originated in central Asia and rapidly spread to many civilizations and cultures around the world. Its nutritional and remedial benefits quickly made it popular
in recipes, medicine, and even magic potions. Its pungent aroma was thought
to ward off evil beings like witches and vampires, and ancient Greek warriors ate it to instill strength and courage. Egyptians worshiped the plant and even used it as local currency. It’s still loved by many today, though it is primarily used for cooking.
