Memories of Summer

For many people, memories of summers past bring on feelings of nostalgia. I look back on my own childhood and remember so many wonderful things. I remember going to scout camp and traveling to stay at my grandparent’s home in Twin Falls, Idaho. I remember when I would ride bikes through the neighborhood with my best friend, Aaron. We would try to ride as close as possible without wrecking. My wife, Colleen, has fond memories of pancake breakfasts and outdoor games with church groups over the years. She remembers going to the beach with her cousins and playing card games on the floor at her friend Becky’s house — for hours on end!. With all of those memories, there’s one thing that comes to mind: how long those days used to be. Today, every day passes so quickly. If you blink, you’ll miss it! But when you’re a kid and you’re out of school for the summer, the days seem to go on forever. They seemed endless. Looking back, and as the days start to feel shorter, it reminds us how important it is to cherish our old memories as we make new ones. My wife and I have been trying to help our kids build these kinds of fond memories as we visit family or attend family reunions, and as we play summer games together. Living in Arizona, half of the summer is spent trying to figure out how to beat the heat. As we get into July, I know the heat is on everyone’s mind. With a lot of people packing up and heading to milder climates, there are

some days where it almost feels like a ghost town. Of course, there are still a lot of people sticking around, but it does feel different.

Whether you’re leaving for a few weeks on a vacation or a few months to escape the heat, don’t forget to take care of yourself. We like to remind patients that, while you may be away from home, it’s still important to do your exercises. They can be easy to forget while you’re out having fun, but if you keep up with it, your body will thank you! Here’s another thing to keep in mind: Don’t let pain or injury get in the way of making new summer memories. If something comes up and takes you out of the fun, don’t hesitate to give us a call (at least, if you’re in the area — if you’re not in the area, still seek out assistance). You don’t want to have to sit on the sidelines because of pain or injury. We’ll be here when you need us.

So, have fun, stay safe, and enjoy making new memories this summer!

IS ‘HAMMOCKING’ A BETTER WAY TO SLEEP?

(Theoretical) Benefits of Sleeping While Swinging

Hammocking has become a popular leisure activity within the last 5–10 years, with the global hammock market growing about 17% between 2017 and 2021. As fun as it is, though, could hammocking be more than that? Could it be a better way to sleep, not just on camping trips or in the park, but in our homes, too? The short answer is that the >Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4
