In its basic form, benevolence is to do good or be generous towards someone in need. We believe this models the heart of God. • Our benevolence ministry supports the areas of the church in which we bless others who are in financial need or it reduces costs for those who may be unable to participate due to financial concerns. Some examples of this ministry are shown through the Christmas Boxes, Thanksgiving Meal, gifts for widows, flowers for funerals, scholarships to children or youth for camps or events, scholarships for life group materials or books, donations to local benevolent agencies like the CROSS Center or Foley Area Care.

• There are times benevolence is used to help families in financial crises bridge until their financial situation is corrected.

BGMC equips kids to know, to care, to pray, to give, and to reach the lost. We have a two-fold purpose, to reach the children of the world and to create a heart of compassion in kids.

Meet the Missionaries 2022 Missions Banquet Keynote Speakers

LUKE AND TANYA MCKINLEY - LITHUANIA Minnesota natives with 20 years of ministry experience, Luke and Tanya have served in youth and children’s ministry, women’s and men’s ministry, leading worship and outreach events, members of a church planting team in Tallinn, Estonia and now they co-lead Journey Church Vilnius, a church plant in the capital of Lithuania. They have 3 children, Morgan, Isabelle, Ethan and have served with Assemblies of God World Missions since 2012. They love discipling new believers, equipping leaders and encouraging others to see their full potential in Christ.

As Vilnius is known to be the city of churches, there is a false sense of security for those who know something about church/religion.

Our greatest joy is serving with our kids and seeing lives transformed by the power of the Gospel.

With a river flowing through the center, Old Town architecture in unique church buildings and modern cafes on every corner, Vilnius is a city that can be enjoyed by foot, bike, bus, car or overhead in a hot air balloon. Pray with us that people find and experience God in a personal way! Pray that as relationships are built that people can see Jesus in our words and actions. Pray that the pull of tradition and self- empowerment would be pushed aside and true surrender to Jesus would happen. Pray for the efforts being made across the country for more disciples, more leaders being trained and more churches being planted. Pray also for more workers to join in these efforts.

Meet the Missionaries

RICHARD BAKER - YOUTH ALIVE Richard Baker is a nationally appointed Youth Alive missionary with the Assemblies of God U.S. Missions. He is part of the first YA missionary group in 1998. Richard wants every student, at every school in every community have an opportunity to hear the Gospel before they graduate from High School. This involves training individual Christian students and equipping local churches for this task through prayer and resources, as well as providing the vehicle of school assemblies and outreach programs. Even after 37 years of ministry to students, Richard is still passionate about seeing students come to Christ. That is what keeps him on the mission of Youth Alive. Please pray that I will always be sensitive to God’s voice, have wisdom as I lead my team in equipping students, youth leaders, and pastors to reach students; have favor for our school assembly programs, find a new digital missionary, and have storage space for our equipment. BOBBY LOUKINEN - YOUTH ALIVE & AIM Hi, my name is Bobby Loukinen and I live in Little Falls, Mn. with my wife Jen. We have 4 adult children, with two in college and two out of college. I’ve been in youth ministry for over 30 years now, the first 18 as a youth pastor, and for the last almost 13 years, as a home missionary with the Assemblies of God. I work with Youth Alive and am passionate about reaching students for Christ as well as mentoring youth pastors. I also am the Aim director in Minnesota, where the mission is: to mobilize student in missions! Please pray for favor with schools for assembly programs and students greatly impacted on short-term mission trips. CHRIS CORTTE - CHI ALPHA, MN We are St Cloud State University Missionaries through Chi Alpha a US Missions component of the Assembly of God; my team and I desire to reconcile students to Christ transforming the university the marketplace and the world. Our passion is discipleship because its Jesus model for transformation of people and giving people a chance to follow him. Greatest joy is developing a disciple that develops a disciple that develops a disciples. Prayer for less confusion and disruptions, it is increasingly more challenging to do any organizing these days, and for us to lead more students to a reconciling relationship with Jesus.

PASTORS CAROL JEAN & GEARY SMITH - PLACE OF HOPE Nearly four decades ago, Carol Jean and Geary A. Smith wouldn’t have dreamed of running a ministry for people struggling with homelessness and addiction. More likely, they would have been the ones seeking help. But in 1980, the course of their lives changed when they became Christians. After years of discipleship, they began pastoring and started Place of Hope in 1997 to help those who faced similar issues. PATRICK & KALYNA STITT - JAPAN Patrick and Kalyna, along with their five children, are church planters in Japan. With many years of pastoring and teaching experience, Patrick is passionate about discipling new Christians and mentoring them in their own spiritual gifts. Kalyna home schools our five children and also has experience teaching English as a second language. She plans to use her teaching and linguistic skills to further the spread of the gospel. We love making new friends and are excited to start relationships where we can show the love of Jesus. Please pray for our children to make new friends as we move to a new country. MICAH & ESSIE ROUSER - NORTHERN ASIA We are the Rousers (Pseudonym: the Green Family), a family of 5 from Minnesota called by God to preach and live out the Good News to the Unreached (specifically Muslims groups) of Northern Asia. We have served in Northern Asia for 1 1/2 years already and are going back long-term. Please pray for doors to open getting into the country. We are financially cleared to go once we get the correct documents and acquire visas. DARETH AND THIDA LY - CAMBODIA My wife, Thida, and I have been serving in Cambodia as missionaries for 26 years. We have 3 daughters, but only the youngest is still living with us in Cambodia. We’re planting churches, training pastors and ministering to the physical need of the people through building and operating schools. Please pray for provision and protection for our church planting team, especially during this time of restrictions and constraints due to the government’s COVID-19 preventative measures. Our youngest daughter who goes to boarding school in Malaysia cannot travel home due to travel restrictions and quarantine.

Currently, I am leading the Youth Group in Cairo as well as serving in the worship team, studying Arabic, and gettingmy bachelor’s degree. The Lord is moving in Egypt! Please pray for our team. We are in transition. Recently we receivedmany new teammembers, and soonmany will be returning to the states for itineration, includingmyself. Pray that ministry will thrive in themidst of transition. Please pray for good health of our team. Please pray for a specific relationship I have with a woman who is not a believer. Pray that her eyes would be open and she would decide to turn to Jesus. TAYLOR & ABBY SMITH - SOUTHEAST ASIA We are the Smiths and our family lives on a small island in Indonesia. God has called us to reach unreached people groups through unique opportunities in this closed-to-the-Gospel country by building one-on-one friendships. In 2017 wemoved to this island for a 16-month internship to learn the language and culture of the people here, and we are so grateful God called us back in 2021. Our desire is to raise our family here until the Lord calls us elsewhere, and we believe that isn’t for many, many years! Please pray for a solid visa for our family, soft hearts for our friends to receive the Good News and a growing capacity to serve the Lord in this context. JACQUELINE CAIRY - TURKEY Hi, I am Jacqueline and I live in Central Anatolia. My small teamand I live in amedium size, predominantly Islamic town where there has been no Gospel witness for centuries. We work to make Christ know and plant the church where it does not exist. Please pray for God tomake a way for His church to grow here.

GERRIT AND TARA KENYON - PANAMA We have been ministering in Panama for ten years, sharing the gospel at the public high schools through ethics and character presentations. The Holy Spirit has called to us to take action and help mend the broken students who have faced sexual abuse, and in response we have hosted annual girls-only and boys-only event called “ILUMINA” to address taboo issues and facilitate healing. SAM UNRUH - CHI ALPHA, COLORADO Hi! I am Sam Unruh and I am reaching college students through relational discipleship on the secular campus at Colorado State University. I am part of a team here with Chi Alpha Campus Ministries where we work to bring lost students to Christ. I myself was a college student at St. Cloud State where I made Jesus Lord of my life because of the Chi Alpha on that campus! Some of the things I enjoy doing include reading books that challenge my walk while drinking some high-quality coffee, and snowshoeing. Please pray for my friend who isn’t a believer, pray that God will soften his heart through my friendship with him. Also, I have been thinking a lot about the future steps for next year in ministry. Please pray for guidance and vision from the Lord. STEVEN AND JACQUE SULLIVAN - MYANMAR Steve and Jacque Sullivan first met at North Central Bible College and were married at the beginning of their senior year in 1984. Upon graduation, they served as global workers in the Philippines and Cambodia from 1985-1998. Their ministries included church planting, leadership training, orphanage ministry and starting the first Pentecostal Bible School in Cambodia. In 2000, they answered the call to start an inner-city church and from 2000- 2013 were the pastors of Saint Paul City Church. They have served as missionaries to the Myanmar people (Burmese) since 2015. Please pray that the Burmese people would be convicted by the Holy Spirit when they hear the gospel.

I am a missionary associate serving in Cairo, Egypt with the All Souls Egypt team. Originally from the Willmar, MN area, God called me to go to Egypt while visiting on a short- term trip in 2018 and I returned in January, 2021. Within the team I serve with our youth Bible study, worship team and weekly adult service. Please pray for God’s supernatural favor over all team ministries, wisdom, and the Holy Spirit’s direction for me leading our youth and continued opportunities to disciple Egyptian friends who do not yet have a relationship with Jesus. NATHAN AND SHANNON KRAINES - DUBAI Nathan and Shannon met while working in India in 2017 and got married in 2019. They now live in Dubai, UAE and just welcomed their daughter, Zoe, into the world. Their greatest desire is to serve the Lord through meeting the lost where they are and inviting them to do life together. Please pray for us to find a long-term living location for greater connection with long-term Indian Ex-Pats where we are able to connect, do life, host a Bible study, and grow our friends, family, and community.

CRAIG AND NATALIA BAUMTROG - MEXICO CITY We are the Baumtrog family: Craig, Natalia, Noah(5), and Jackson (2) serving the youth of Mexico City. We both received a call into missions at a young age. We are a bicultural family from Argentina and Minnesota. The biggest challenge is simply just the size of the field with over 9 million people in downtown Mexico City and 2 million of them are between the ages of 14-29. Our mission field is the largest university of all Latin America where there are over 300 thousand students. Where it can feel overwhelming to simply be on campus. Please pray for God’s favor as we build a team of nationals to work together in reaching the next generations; also for the safety and protection of our family. MIKE REINI - CAMBODIA Even though life in Cambodia can seem the complete opposite of life on the Iron Range of Minnesota, I believe I am able to take elements of my upbringing in the Northland to ministering in the Kingdom of Wonder. I have been a missionary in Cambodia since 2013, and I currently serve as the Academic Dean of our Bible school, Cambodia Bible Institute. Other projects include a worship ministry and a dormitory for students looking to study in the capital city. Please pray for logistics as I get settled, and pray for more short and long- term workers. BOB MCKAY - GEORGIA My name is Bob McKay, and I have been a foreign missionary to the former Soviet Union (Ukraine and Georgia) since 1998. I spent 10 years in education in Ukraine for the past 14 years starting churches and bible colleges in unreached areas of Georgia. I have been a Minnesota missionary for over 30 years now. Before going on the mission field, I was one of the pastors at Jesus People church and also taught at North Central University for 7 years before going to the field. Please pray for the Lord of the harvest to raise up more workers for the need, for the material resources needed to reach out and to help our current churches to have a church (what we call a “House of Prayer”), and continued freedom to preach the gospel and for God’s favor.

Meet the Missionaral Organizations

SPEED THE LIGHT The concept is simple: we give so others can speed the light of the gospel to a world in darkness. This is accomplished by providing the “essential transportation and creative communication” equipment for missionary evangelism. Through modern transportation, radios, television, print, audio, and digital equipment, our missionaries can help make Jesus known. Speed the Light is the student-initiated, volunteer, charitable program that provides much-needed equipment to missionaries across the nation and in over 180 countries around the world. It began in 1944 after Ralph Harris, then head of the National Youth Ministries department prayed for a way to give Assemblies of God students the opportunity to help missionaries in their work. Nearly 75 years later, Speed the Light is one of the most effective youth missions ministries in existence. Since its beginning, over $300 million has been raised for missionary equipment around the world. And, Speed the Light is still helping to disciple students to live a life of generosity as they become personally responsible for the mission of God by helping our missionaries make Jesus known throughout the world. GIDEONS INTERNATIONAL The Gideons International is the result of a meeting between two men who wished to band commercial travelers together for evangelism. What began in 1908 as an Association of Christian businessmen placing Bibles in hotel rooms has evolved into an expanding mission to provide Scriptures to all people in nearly every facet of life. Today, the Gideons have taken more than 2 billion Scriptures in more than 95 languages to 200 countries, territories, and possessions across the globe.

To encourage, attract, and exhort the body of believers at NLC to meet the challenge of missions through prayer support and/or the financial underwriting of local, state, national, and global missionaries (Matthew 28: 19-20; Acts 1: 8; 2 Kings: 26-28). Meet the Missions Committee

MISSY & TERRY PAULSON - COMMITTEE CHAIR Through a series of events over the last few years, both individually and jointly, God was at work preparing each of our hearts for a desire for missions (which had never existed before). As time went by Terry found himself having a deep desire to continue the legacy of supporting missions that his aunt and uncle had begun. Soon we learned of an opportunity to support an individual who was excited for missions and had a big God given dream. As we followed that individuals mission trip, we learned how lives throughout the world were being impacted by building relationships and sharing God’s love. What we didn’t expect or anticipate was the impact it would forever have on our hearts. Needless to say, this lit a fire to learn more about missions and be more involved; and so the journey continues… JAMES MILLS I have been married for over 15 years and have 7 wonderful children. I have a passion for serving others because Jesus sent me a young woman (now my wife) passionate about missions, I was saved at the age of 19 years old. From that day, I have always been drawn to help others around the world. After starting to sponsor children around the world, we learned how much missions have helped us grow and have changed the lives of many in untouched areas for God’s kingdom.

17 BE ONE

PASTOR JIM VON WALD I love missions and believe missions is the way our church can spread the gospel of Jesus and be His hands extended from Foley to the rest of the world. I can’t be in all those places, but can be a part of supporting those who can. Being a part of the missions committee gives me the opportunity to have a hands on experience at the ground level of what New Life is doing through missions. It is so very exiting to see how the committee is helping the church become more aware of how important missions is to the heart of God and how all of our hearts are changing towards missions. PASTOR PAM SCHRUPP - COMMITTEE SECRETARY I have supported missions financially for a while now. Last year, I felt God calling me to go on a mission trip, much to my chagrin. I had no interest or desire to go on a mission trip! “Couldn’t I just continue to give money,” I reasoned? God had other plans. Needless to say, I went on my first mission trip to help build a family home in Baja, Mexico last summer! What a work God has done in my life through that trip! He opened my eyes and heart to missions on such a grand scale; so much so, I am heading back to Baja again this spring! JODI ERKENS For a number of years I’ve been drawn to help others whether it be through donating time, items or monetary. As I learn more about my own spirituality I feel missions locally and beyond is a natural way to help bring other people to explore their own spirituality and how we can impact the lives of others from all over in a positive way.

18 BE ONE

BRENDA SCHULER I joined the missions committee due to our love of helping people accelerate something they have already started. Although there are instances where a handout is needed, I believe more good is done by giving a hand up. Although I like many of you will not likely be called to the mission field, I know there is still a way to help spread the gospel. My goal is for New Life missions to be that hand up to the folks who have received a call from God to go into the field as the hands and feet of God, by bringing knowledge and understanding to the New Life family on the impact we have as a body to those in the mission field. NANCY KAMPA We are beyond blessed in America, and I want to make peeps (especially women and kids) lives better, and God gave me some talents to help with that. I will be heading on my first mission trip (with New Life Church) to Baja, Mexico this spring. I am looking forward to this opportunity and seeing all that God is going to do.
