Happy Hour

Fridays are for Friendship! It’s like a cocktail party every Friday night! Members love to catch up with friends–not to mention meet new friends—at Happy Hour, from 5:30 to 7pm, every week. Drinks are half price, everyone is there, and many consider it a highlight of the week! Evening Colors at Happy Hour The third Friday of each month, we hold a “colors” flag ceremony at sundown, lowering the stars and stripes in a beautiful ceremony led by the Commodore and other members of the Bridge in their snappy “whites.” It’s complete with Taps and a cannon boom! Flamingle Table There’s nothing like the camaraderie of dining with other Members. That’s why we have the Flamingle Table! When you make a reservation for a Friday night dinner and you’d like to sit with other Members but haven’t made any specific arrangements, just tell Elaine or Tina, “Please put me at the Flamingle Table!” You’ll see a pink flamingo centerpiece on the table, a sign of a great way to mingle!

Dining Areas

Our Hours (Hours differ by season)

Dinner: Wednesday – Saturday 5:30pm – 8pm Lunch: Wednesday – Saturday 11:30am – 2pm Sunday Brunch: 10am – 2pm Dining Areas Dockside Lounge Just past the reception desk, you’ll find the Dockside Lounge. Its two walls of windows and photos of Members’ boats give it a real nautical feel! It also has a lovely bar—and on some hot, summer days, you may find Happy Hour here! Harbour Room Take the stairs—or the elevator—and you’ll find our largest dining room, the beautiful Harbour Room. Dinner is usually served here during the Season. The Point Just beyond the Harbour Room, you’ll find a stunning spot called “The Point.” It’s a great place to eat “al fresco” during the season—and wedding ceremonies are often held on The Point. Burgee Bar No doubt you already know where the Burgee Bar is! During the Season, enjoy lunch here with generally casual fare. On Saturdays in Season, the Burgee Bar is hopping, so be sure to join in the fun!

Clubhouse Events & Activities Parties and Balls

From the dazzling Commodore’s Ball when new officers are installed to fun themed parties like “Hats & Horses” on Derby Day, you’ll enjoy a wide range of entertaining events. Watch Anchor Lines and the Calendar to see what’s happening when. Wine & Dine This is a favorite night of many members. A wonderful four course dinner is paired with flights of wines described with flair by a sommelier. Dinner jackets are required for men. Boater’s Night

The Bridge wear their “whites” and give brief reports. Dinner is a fixed menu and there’s no pre-arranged seating plan, so it’s a good opportunity to mix. (No o t required!) Canasta and Bridge

Every Thursday morning the ladies canasta group meets at 9:30am to play and stay for lunch. The bridge group meets on Wednesday, starting with lunch, then playing till 3:30 or so. Water Aerobics Tuesday and Saturday mornings Members get together for a water aerobics workout at the Marco Island Marine Association (MIMA) pool, located by the Dock Master’s station as you drive towards the Club. (Thurs. p.m., too.) Golf The Club has two golf groups, a men’s group that plays every Friday and a mixed group that plays monthly. Contact Bob Winterhalter or Alice Jobe for more information. Book Club Read an engaging book, then have a lively discussion over lunch—with a special menu coordinated with the storyline in the book you’ve just read! 5

Boating Activities Organized by Members of the Bridge (pages 7-8)

Sunset Cruises Enjoy a lovely evening on the water, hosting other Members on your own boat, or joining another Member on theirs. A group of MIYC boaters sign up for Sunset Cruise nights, and other Full members sign up to go as passengers. If you’re a “passenger,” you may be assigned to a boat, or you can arrange to go with a particular friend. After the sunset, boaters come back for a delicious dinner at the Club. Day Cruises Day cruises typically leave in the morning and cruise to another Yacht Club for lunch. Signup works the same as for Sunset Cruises, above. Some Day Cruises are competitions, such as our Nautical Scavenger Hunt, where teams follow clues to find target items and snap a photo to “land” them. Extended Cruises For a real change of scenery, go on an extended cruise. These trips go to more distant destinations and stay a few days, where Members party together and enjoy the sights, restaurants and activities of the new harbor. Sailing Our sailing program is in the process of re-building. We have reintroduced sailing instruction for youth and adults, and are looking to restart our Regatta program once we get more sailors. Join the Boating Committee and help develop the program! Blessing of the Fleet If you own a boat, you’ll want to participate, and if you don’t you’ll want to watch the boats parade by in this colorful, annual invocation of good fortune for boaters. The event includes live music and lunch at the Club.

The Bridge

The Bridge is responsible for all boating activities at the Club, including Blessing of the Fleet, Extended Cruises, Day Cruises, Sunset Cruises, Regattas, and Boater's Nights.

Commodore The Commodore is the primary face of the Club to the community and has ultimate responsibility for all boating activities. While each member of the Bridge is responsible for specific areas, the Commodore provides overall direction and coordination. In addition, the Commodore sits on the Board of Directors and assists the Chairman of the Board with various club management activities. Vice Commodore The Vice Commodore organizes Sunset Cruises and is actively involved in planning and executing all boating activities, with the Power Fleet and Sailing Fleet Captains reporting to him or her. This position also sits on the MIYC Board of Directors. Rear Commodore The Rear Commodore plans and executes all of the social activities held in connection with boating events. Arranging speakers and programs for the monthly Boater’s Night is a major responsibility. In addition, the Rear Commodore sits on the Board of Directors Port Captain The Port Captain welcomes members from other Yacht Clubs arriving at the Marco Island Marina, answering questions and making their stay on the Island enjoyable. He or she invites them to use MIYC facilities and informs them of Club hours, dress codes and other pertinent rules. Visitors also receive a small welcome bag with a Marco Island map and Chamber of Commerce magazine as well as other items.

The Bridge

Power Fleet Captain The Power Fleet Captain chairs the Boating Committee, which plans the Club’s various day and extended cruises. Overnight cruises to ports around Florida and the Keys require a lot of planning and logistics. These excursions generally last several days, with arrangements made for boat docking as well as group social and dinner plans for the nights away. Sailing Fleet Captain The Sailing Fleet Captain runs the sailing program, including managing our participation in any regattas the Club may sponsor. We also participate with other southwest Florida yacht clubs and sailing organizations in a circuit of nine or ten sailing regattas held in various venues off of Florida's Gulf Coast. The Sailing Fleet Captain also works with the Marina Association and others in the Annual Nautical Flea Market in March and other fund-raising efforts supporting the Community Sailing Center. Secretary The Secretary publishes minutes of Bridge meetings and handles other record-keeping, administrative and organizational functions as needed. Safety & Training Officer The Safety and Training Officer is responsible for planning and offering courses and seminars oriented toward the safe operation of recreational vessels. As part of this, the Safety Officer encourages new boaters to enroll in a complementary safe boating course leading to Florida certification. This officer also provides access to vessel safety inspections and, on a continuing basis, keeps membership apprised of timely safety issues.

Change It Up!

Variety is the spice of life, and sometimes you want a change of scenery. A Full membership in MIYC opens doors (and docks) for you at all 36 members of the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs (FCYC). Whether you just go for brunch at the Naples Sailing & Yacht Club or take an excursion to Key Biscayne, you’ll have safe harbor! We are also members of the Yacht Clubs of America, where you’ll be welcome at hundreds of clubs across the country.

You are entitled to social and dining privileges as well as excellent marina facilities. Some clubs offer golf and tennis as well.

• Review what each club offers, check days and times of operations, and note contact information for dining or docking reservations. • Call the club to make a reservation and give them your Member number. They will call the Club to verify your active membership.

• Show your membership card when you arrive. • All charges will be billed to your MIYC account.

Building & Grounds With a big, beautiful Clubhouse, there’s always maintenance, repairs, replacements and upgrades to plan. We hire and deal with contractors and suppliers, and recommend capital purchases. Join us to help keep the Clubhouse looking great! Operations & HR We oversee Club operations and address many HR functions, making sure the right people are in the right positions with appropriate compensation, benefits and annual reviews. Events Party planners, we’re looking for you! We need idea people with creative event concepts as well as hands on workers who like to decorate, research bands and DJs, and pitch in however needed. Ship’s Store The Ship's Store carries ever changing merchandise that will surprise and delight you—clothing, caps, pillows, kitchen towels, totes, jewelry and more! We’re looking for “sales associates” that enjoy a good time while helping out the Club. Membership Recruiting and retention of Members is what we’re all about. We plan and run Open Houses, hold new Member Orientations, and assign ambassadors to help new Members get involved. Join us! Marketing & Communications Wear your creative hat when you join this team! We prepare communications for Club Members as well as PR and Advertising to reach the public. Looking for writers, designers, marketers. Finance & Mariner’s Fund Ensuring the Club’s financial health is our mandate. It’s all about budgets, cash flow, etc. Experience in this area required. Mariner’s Fund Do you have ideas and experience with fund raisers, endowments, silent auctions, appeals for donations etc.? We’re looking for you!

Communications

Anchor Lines Members eagerly await each issue of Anchor Lines, our monthly newsletter. In it you’ll learn what’s coming up in the next month and enjoy a great round-up of recent news and events along with a host of terrific photos. You’ll receive a link to each issue by email. You can also find it on our website or pick up a hard copy at the Club. If you have a good story or story idea for Anchor Lines, don’t hesitate to submit it to [email protected]. eBlasts Timely emails keep Members up-to-date with news and details on events, and we call them “eBlasts.” Both you and your spouse or other on your membership can be on the email list. The list uses the addresses you included on your membership application. MIYC Website Our website has a public side and private, password-protected side. On the private, Member Central side you can see your statements, pay them, find a roster of members, a calendar of event and more. Facebook Our Facebook Page is another way to reach out to the public, but it’s also a great place for you to see highlights of Club events and read interesting boating articles. Be sure to “Like” the page and ask your friends to like it, too! Flickr We have a Club Flickr site where you can post and view photos from Club events. Go to www.flickr.com and enter the username [email protected] and password MIYCphotos123.

Once you log in, you need to select “You” from the menu by the Flickr logo at the top of the page. Then select any of the dropdown choices, such as Photostream or Albums. (Only the “You” section has MIYC photos.)

protected Member Central section of our website lets you pay your bill online, see an updated roster and more. You just need to register and use it!

Registration on MIYC Website: www.marcoislandyachtclub.net Just click on Member Registration , underneath the Member Login on the homepage. You need to register to set up your username and password.

Enter your member number, then enter your first and last names as shown on your Club statements (e.g. first name could be “John” or could be “John and Jane” etc.— use names as shown on your statements.) This validates who you are.

Username and Password: Next, a page will appear to set up your Username and Password. The system will suggest a username, but you can change it. Fill in the fields, click “Create User” and you are ready to login. You and your “significant other” will need to share this account, as only one login is available per member couple. If you ever forget the password, click “Forgot Password” on the login page and we’ll email you a “Reset Password” link. Login

Once you’ve registered, you’re ready to login. Just return to the homepage and enter your new Username and Password. It will take you right to the Member Central page. Check “Remember Me” for quick, easy login next time.

Dress Code

General Members, guests and visiting boaters are expected to dress in a way that befits the Club’s atmosphere. Shirts and shoes are required at all times. Gentlemen and boys remove their hats or caps in the Clubhouse except as part of a costume or when in Club uniform. Ripped, torn or dirty garments have no place on Club grounds. Dining Room after 5pm “Smart casual” is the normal attire in the dining room after 5pm. Collared shirts, turtlenecks, slacks, designer jeans and tasteful shorts are acceptable for gentlemen. Blouses, jerseys, slacks, designer jeans and tasteful shorts are acceptable for ladies. Only on Wine & Dine nights and some special occasions are gentlemen required to wear jackets. What not to wear? No beachwear, flip flops, or standard blue jeans. For gentlemen, no work pants and for ladies, no leggings without a tunic. Dining Room at Lunch At lunch the attire is somewhat more relaxed in the dining rooms. Collared shirts or turtlenecks are still required for men, however cargo shorts as well as flip flops are acceptable. For ladies, spandex, open midriffs, leggings and flip flops are permitted. Outdoor Dining Come comfortable and casual for outdoor dining at the Burgee Bar. You can even wear beachwear, with a cover-up. Denim is permitted here, too. Shirts and shoes (of any type) are always required.

Billing

How to Pay Your Statement Online Login to Member Central to view your Club statements—even individual chits—and pay online by credit card. 1. Click on Statements 2. View your Last Statement and click the Pay Now button at the top 3. Complete the payment form and click Pay Now at the bottom. Be sure to click only once after you enter your information. You’ll receive a confirmation email to the primary email on the account. Monthly Statement You’ll receive a statement each month with the last month’s F&B (food and beverage) and Ship’s Store purchases. All statements go out by email, but if you request, you may receive yours by postal mail. Pay by the end of the month to avoid a Late Fee. Ways to Make a Payment There are several ways to pay. Be sure to include your Member number on any checks. • Mail a check to Accounting, 1400 N. Collier Blvd. Marco Island FL 34145 • Drop off your check at the reception desk at the Club • Call Accounting and pay by credit card • Pay online in the secure Member Central section of the MIYC website (once you’ve done it, this is the quickest, easiest way to pay!) Annual Dues The Club year begins October 1 st each year, coinciding with the new Season. Therefore annual dues need to be paid by September 30 th to avoid a Late Fee. Installment payments are also offered for a modest convenience fee.

Mariner ’ s Society

What is the Mariner’s Society? Contributions from generous MIYC Members have made a real difference to the success of Marco Island Yacht Club. As a Club, we want to recognize these Members for their generosity and their impact benefitting all of us. A Mariner’s Society recognition plaque with the names of individuals making significant contributions is on display for all Members to view in the entry area of the Club. The Mariner’s Society recognizes four levels of contribution, reflecting a Member’s cumulative contributions. Mariner’s Society Recognition Levels • Bronze $ 500 • Silver $ 2,500 • Gold $10,000 • Diamond $20,000 Certificates of Appreciation are presented at the Annual Meeting to Members who have donated at one of these levels. Mariner’s Society honorees who make additional contributions may move from one level of recognition to a higher one, and will be recognized again at the Annual Meeting. Donations can be in cash or cash equivalents. How are Donations Used? Many contributions are in connection with appeals for specific projects, such as the recent refurbishment of the Tiki Hut. A Board Committee has been established to identify areas or projects needing contributions from Members. Other contributions are not directed to specific projects but rather made to support ongoing, emergency or future needs for capital improvements in the Club.
