This Fall, Don’t Wait to Get Started On Becoming a Legal Resident of the United States

If you have young kids or teens, August is back-to-school season. Sure, it might not truly be fall yet, but when the school year starts, we effectively start our autumn routines. Soon, summer will be over, the weather will change, and we’ll begin the final stretch of 2021. How do you want to end this year? If I could suggest an answer to that question, it would be this: You should use this time to intentionally move toward becoming more than just undocumented. Harness the drive, routine, and productivity that comes with this time of year and use it to change your circumstances for yourself and your family. It’s true that the current presidential administration has taken a more favorable stance on immigration and isn’t breathing down our necks. It’s also true that the media isn’t always reporting on illegal immigration anymore. However, that could all change before we know it. As much as I wish it weren’t the case, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, crackdowns on finding “illegals,” and deportations could come with the next presidential election. Don’t wait until then to start petitioning for your status as a legal immigrant. You can rest a little easier right now, but just like you don’t wait for winter to start storing food, you shouldn’t wait until things are bad again to start your immigration petition. I should also note that those petitions usually take two years to go through the system, and it’s not entirely certain that President Biden will run again for a second term. There is a very real possibility that everything could change in 2024, so you should be ready.

here. You don’t have to be an “illegal” or

an “alien” anymore. You can change that, and we can help.

It’s our deepest desire that our clients don’t have to be afraid to drive their kids to school, fearing that they could get pulled over without a driver’s license. You shouldn’t have to be afraid to attend a PTA meeting at your child’s school for fear of being stigmatized by the other parents. We want you and your family to have a bright future ahead of you, where your kids can go to school, learn, and grow up in the United States without any fear that their parents might someday be taken away. You have the power to make that happen this fall with the help of New Frontier Immigration Law. Even if your appeal has been rejected before, we can give you another shot with local immigration authorities. We will do everything in our power to ensure you can enjoy a long, happy, healthy life here with your family and that you can call the United States your home for decades to come.

If you have questions about our process or how to get started, call us today at 623-742-5400 or email us at [email protected].

3 NaturalWays to Boost Your EnergyWithout Caffeine Don’t Reach for the Coffee If you can’t start your day without your daily cup — or cups — of joe, you’re not alone. More than 450 million cups of coffee are consumed by U.S. residents every day, and unfortunately, heavy caffeine consumption may not be healthy. (It’s a big reason why celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey, and Kim Kardashian don’t drink it!) Moderate amounts of caffeine can improve your mental health, and some studies suggest it could even prevent some chronic conditions. However, there are major downsides to overconsumption, which equates to more than four cups of coffee each day. These can include high blood pressure, addiction symptoms, and decreased mentality. If you want to break out of the caffeine cycle and reduce how much coffee you drink, try replacing that cuppa with one of these methods! STRETCH After lying in one position all night, your body may feel stiff and achy. Stretching awakens your muscles and helps you break out of that groggy morning feeling. Start with your back and do some slow core twists. Then, sit on the floor and lay your legs out in front of you. Stretch forward, then sit back up. Next, position your right foot on the opposite side of your left knee. Keeping your hips centered, turn your torso toward your right foot so that your right arm is on your right knee. Switch to the other side and repeat as needed. Finally, pull your head toward your shoulders to loosen your neck. GO FOR AWALK When you wake up in the morning, head outside! Movement stimulates your brain and improves your mood, and the act of walking is relaxing enough that it doesn’t require much effort on your part. Plus, it’s a great way to get your steps in, wake up slowly, and get outside before a busy day. JUST BREATHE This might sound like it will lull you to sleep, but there are actually some breathing techniques that can help you wake up! The “breath of fire” is a rapid-fire breathing technique, during which you inhale deeply, exhale deeply, inhale deeply again, and then exhale quickly. Repeat this as needed. Other practices that focus on breathing, like yoga, can be effective, too. Waking up isn’t an exact science, but once you find a healthy method that works for you, you may never need coffee again. (Gasp!)

The Rouses’ Success Story Roger and Maricel Rouse’s international love story began when Maricel met Roger while he was still in the U.S. military. Then, after a couple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and being together for over 12 years, Roger moved to China in 2015 to be with his now-wife and teach English with her. In 2019, they decided it was time to move to the States. Encouraged by a friend who went through the same process, they learned about our firm via referral and started working toward Maricel’s citizenship. In the meantime, Roger took a job in Alaska in June 2019 to prepare their family by buying a house and setting everything up for their new life together. This Family Was Separated for Almost 2 Years Due to the Pandemic

Then, the pandemic hit, and lockdowns began.

“I couldn’t get back to see them,” Roger recalled in a phone interview. Not only were Maricel and their son isolated in China, but COVID-19 caused many problems and delays. “The embassy stopped doing interviews. There was a lot of backlog — employees couldn’t go back to work, and it extended the whole process.” Maricel didn’t want to wait in complete isolation, so she flew with her son to stay with family in the Philippines, moving her citizenship case from China to the Philippines. It wasn’t easy for Roger and Maricel to spend so much time apart during an international crisis. “[The process] took almost two years from the start.” Without technology, it could’ve been much worse. “We were able to do WeChat, the Chinese version of Facebook, so we were able to see each other and chat every day.” Despite the delays, the Rouse family was very impressed with Hillary and her team. “The people who work with Hillary were very helpful and available all the time. I’d email and get a response right away.” All things considered, they were extremely grateful that they didn’t have to navigate the process all by themselves! “[New Frontier] dots all the I’s, crosses all the T’s. Nothing got kicked back, and they were able to move the process from China to the Philippines very easily.”

Now, the Rouse family lives together in northern Alaska near the Arctic — what a change of scenery! Thank you so much for sharing your kind words and experiences with us, Roger and Maricel. We were very happy to help!

‘She Has a Heart of Gold’ MEET HILLARY’S HUSBAND, SHAWN!

Hey there! I’m Shawn Walsh. Usually, a staff member is spotlighted in this part of the newsletter, but I’m very honored the staff reached out to me, Hillary’s husband, to help them turn the spotlight on Hillary. I thought I’d share special, firsthand experience of her legal expertise — because as a first-generation immigrant, my dad was actually one of her first clients. When my dad moved to the U.S. in the ‘70s, he married my mom in the States but kept living on a green card. Having nothing but a green card can be extremely risky, especially with kids. If he’d made one slip or mistake while driving, he could’ve been deported and separated from us. (Considering he’s from Canada, it’s not as far away as it could have been, if he ever were deported, but it’s not easy being forcibly separated from your family.) He never became a full citizen for one reason or another, whether it was the cost of time,

money, or both. However, he always thought of himself as a citizen and loved America like no other country. After Hillary and I were married for a few years, she became interested in immigration law and offered to help him become a U.S. citizen. Although my dad’s case was relatively simple, Hillary made it easy for him every step of the way, and I’ve always seen the same level of dedication from her in any case she takes. Dedication is definitely one of her strong suits; she had to transfer law schools three times to finish her law degree due to our moves, since I was in the military. But one of the most impressive things about Hillary is that, once people meet her, they immediately know she has a heart of gold. She’s the type of person who wants to help as many people as she possibly can. When I was deployed in Iraq, she went to Uganda and volunteered at an orphanage for children, and it wasn’t her first time

doing that. She felt so compelled to help women with no voice or representation.

I could tell you all day about Hillary’s achievements that make me incredibly proud, like the time she took on her first pro bono case in Las Vegas for a young girl who had been trafficked. But when she won in the 2016 American Bar Association Awards as a pro bono lawyer in South Korea, I was very thrilled that she was being recognized on such a scale, especially when she worked tirelessly with a pair of twin toddlers, helping clients in the corner of a library. No matter what the odds are, if you put your heart into it, there’s so much good you can do. There’s no better example of that than Hillary. Thanks for being the incredible attorney, mother, and wife that you are!

Cheering for you always,

–Shawn Walsh

Meet Hillary’s Husband, Shawn!

Meet Odin, the Fireproof Dog

them. Great Pyrenees are prized livestock guardian dogs that will do anything to protect their charges, and Odin lived up to his breed. “I said, ‘Okay, Odin, take care of the goats. You’ll be fine,’” Roland Hendel told ABC News. Both Hendels were sure they were seeing their dog for the last time. Their hearts sank even further when they heard their home had burned down completely. But on a trip back to examine the ashes, something amazing happened. “In the distance, I saw Odin’s tail,” Roland told ABC. “Sure enough, there was Odin coming at the head of all his goats.” Not only did Odin survive the fire and run right up to the Hendels for belly rubs, but he also kept every single one of his goats safe! A few wild deer even joined the goats, and he shepherded them through unscathed. The incredible story made the news, and Odin became a local legend. Unfortunately, even legends don’t live forever. This April, Odin passed away after a long life of tail-wagging, treat-eating, and goat-saving. In his honor, Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri gifted the Hendels two new Great Pyrenees pups: Buddy and Snowflake. They’re following in Odin’s pawsteps, protecting the goats he loved so much.

In October 2017, California was in flames. One of those blazes was the Tubbs Fire, which charred its way through 36,800 miles of forests and vineyards in both Napa and Sonoma County. More than 5,600 buildings were destroyed, and 22 people were killed. But when the flames finally died, a four-legged hero emerged from the ashes: Odin, the Great Pyrenees dog. Odin belonged to Ariel and Roland Hendel, two farmers in Sonoma County. When the Tubbs Fire threatened to char their home, they packed up as many of their animals and precious items as they could. Unfortunately, their flock of goats wouldn’t fit in the getaway vehicle — and their goat-herding dog, Odin, refused to abandon Meet Odin, the Fireproof Dog This Great Pyrenees Guided His Goats Through aWildfire
