BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE

Antrim Business Park

It has been a year to remember for us all, allowing us some breathing space to step back and consider how we continue to develop, grow and protect our business for the future. As part of that vision for the future we are excited to be working with local Government bodies and community leaders to bring life back into the former Enkalon site in Antrim.

HEALTH & SAFETY UPDATE

2020 has brought a host of new changes and learning opportunities to all of us at Errigal, but the one thing that has remained consistent is our commitment to ensuring that the Health, Safety and Wellbeing of our entire workforce is still the number one priority. Now, more than ever, we understand and endeavour to spread the message that the actions and decisions we make at work can have a huge impact on each of us as individuals as well as our families and friends. The message of ‘Safety First’ is one that we continually promote across the whole company. We are continuing to enhance our standards across the business to promote safe working practices on all our sites and to ensure that each person working at Errigal goes home safe and healthy every single day.

CIF Construction Safety Week 2020

On the 19th-23rd October, our site teams got involved with the CIF Construction Safety Week in Ireland. This was an brilliant event that involved engaging workshops and encouraged some excellent discussions on topics around mental health, welfare and wellbeing at work, working at height and occupational health in construction. These are important topics which we will continue to promote awareness of across all our sites .

Mental Health and Wellbeing 2020 has seen us all face unprecedented times of uncertainty which undoubtedly has brought undue stress to many and we recognise that this can have a huge impact on our mental health. We understand the importance of promoting positive mental health and wellbeing within our company and across our workforce to ensure that each person in Errigal can be both physically and mentally safe in the workplace and at home with their families. At Errigal, the health and wellbeing of each person in the Errigal community is our number one priority and while we are committed to creating continued awareness around topics such as mental illness, depression and suicide in construction, we are dedicated to working together to start promoting the importance of focusing on developing mental wealth within our company and the industry as a whole.

Darkness into light and Suicide Prevention

Due to Covid-19 the official Darkness into light walk was cancelled, however members of Errigal team came together to do some socially distanced walks in their local areas to support this great cause and promote suicide prevention and positive mental health.

Face Fit Testing A company-wide toolbox talk was also carried out on Suicide Prevention Day on the 10th of September to talk about the issues surrounding mental health and suicide in our industry and how we can spot the signs of those who may need help. We will continue to have the conversations on this important topic and hope that we will all be able to walk together again at Pieta’s event next year.

We want to encourage more women to come into the industry at all levels. There is so much room for career progression and skill development, it’s an industry worth looking into no matter what your background. If you are career-driven and you thrive on challenges that lead to success then Construction is the platform for you. TRIBUTE TO MARTIN Martin Hasson 1965-2020

In July of this year we lost one of our own. Martin was with us from the very start and throughout the growth of the company. Martin managed some of the most complex and intricate projects we have worked on to date. Martin never shied away from a challenge and constantly delivered, no matter what, and this rightfully earned him the nickname “Millimetre Martin” from all his colleagues.

Martin is, and always will be, remembered as a key member of the Errigal family and has left behind a legacy of whichhiswifeClare, sonCharlie anddaughter Ramona shouldbe very proud. Martin always knew the importance of bringing on the younger generation and was always generous with his time and he embraced the opportunity to be able to share his technical knowledge and years of experience on a daily basis with the young staff and apprentices who he worked along side. Believing in young people and wanting to see them do well is a belief that Martin shared with us and in acknowledgment of this Errigal are dedicating the annual apprenticeship award in Martin’s memory. The “Martin Hasson Apprentice of the year Award” will be presented annually to the stand-out apprentice each year.

ERRIGAL TRAINING ACADEMY

Errigal Training Academy Training is at the forefront of everything that we do. We believe in our young people and we want to empower everyone who works with Errigal to be the best that they can be.

The Errigal apprenticeship has been operating now since January 2016 and we are extremely proud of all the young people who have completed their apprenticeship successfully and it’s great to see some of our qualified apprentices moving up through the ranks and becoming a member of site management team. Errigal are committed to training and upskilling to the highest possible standard within the industry, for the good of the industry as a whole.

From January 2016 we have had 12 groups of apprentices over the last 5 years and even with the unusual times of Covid-19 that we find ourselves living in today, Errigal are still committed to providing that opportunity for young people seeking a career and wanting to better themselves. We have a dedicated team in our training department who focus not only on professional skills, but on personal development and life skills, allowing young people to find a career they enjoy, stability for the future, career progression, and a sense of achievement and pride.

ERRIGAL FACADES

We are delighted to be working on one of the largest regeneration sites underway in London. Brunel Street Works is our flagship facade project where works have been continuing at a rapid pace throughout 2020. These striking buildings adjacent to Canning Town station will form a prominent feature for years to come on the London skyline, whilst delivering 975 mixed tenure homes along with commercial and retail space. The full development is spread across 5 blocks ranging in height from 8 to 26 storeys. We have been working in conjunction with Vistry Partnerships since late 2017 on the scheme providing preconstruction advice on design, constantly testing the decisions and ensuring the most economical build. ERRIGAL RECLAD

Due to the on-going demand and critical importance of safe recladding of buildings across the UK and beyond, we have been focused on building our knowledge and expertise in this area and in 2020 have set up a specialist recladding division with a dedicated delivery team. We are equally adept at delivering one specific element of the process outlined below, to taking the lead on the whole project as a one-stop-shop. We are proud to have successfully delivered this service to many clients within the last year, with several projects in progress.

Stage One : Inspection We complete a thorough inspection of the existing façade. Cladding panels are removed and the existing system, insulation, fire barrier and support system is surveyed and a detailed report issued.

Stage Two : Design Our design team work with all involved from main contractors and clients to consultants and certifying bodies to: •Review the existing building line and interface requirements. •Review the design of the building and proposed re-clad materials to maintain the aesthetics of the building. •Develop the re-clad design details for the projects based on the architect’s intent. •Confirm structural analysis of proposed systems •Advise on compliance of systems to current standards and requirements on testing if required.

Errigal

Stage Three : Testing We design, construct and facilitate the testing of existing or proposed facade solutions to verify and certify that the proposed remedial solution will pass the relevant building regulations and testing parameters. We have fully constructed and tested a total of 15 fire test rigs in accordance with BS8414 for various cladding systems and bespoke designs.

‘I am proud of the development of our façade expertise across all areas from design to final installation, building relationships with professionals and contractors in our industry and with Grenfell always on our minds it is important that we have compliance at the forefront of all decision making’ Brendan Treanor - Contracts Director

Stage Four : Final Specification Errigal consults with the architect and client to provide options and select and specify a suitable replacement cladding material that will meet performance and the aesthetic finish to the facade. Working closely with supply chain to model and fabricate replacement cladding to match the profile and building line of the existing façade. Ensuring quality Quality Assurance procedures are maintained at all stages.

Routing ACM( aluminium composite material

Mech-slip brick slip cladding

Stage Five : Installation Re-clad works are carried out in a sequenced manner. Isolated areas are ‘stripped’ and reclad in single visits to minimise the building envelope exposure and impact on residents, businesses and general public. Quality assurance inspection and reporting is conducted at each stage to ensure installation is carried out in accordance with the design, specification, testing and quality requirements.

‘Failure of our product is what we all strive to prevent in our industry every day. We have leaned on the expertise within our company over previous years and built a team that will face the challenges and address any deficiencies. Our team can deal with everything from initial inspections & reports, development & testing solutions, logistics & access to final strip & installation. Having no legacy projects in this field has allowed us to approach this with clarity of mind and resolve’ Chris Hodgkinson - Contracts Director

TESTING AND DESIGN

Fire Testing

We have continued building upon our vast testing experience this year and have carried out a number of Facade (BS8414) and Internal Partitions (BS476 Part 22) fire tests with our long established manufacturing partners. These tests were carried out at the Efectis Facility in University of Ulster. We will continue our testing in 2021.

Design Capabilities

City Tower One Nine Elms On this residential project Errigal are required to prototype the building in the virtual environment in accordance with UK BIM standards. Producing a fully coordinated BIM Model allows Errigal to “Clash Detect” with the various other trades eliminating site conflicts and increasing site productivity. Errigal has the ability to use this model to review build sequences, schedule and quantify materials to their specific locations and using a digital tablet to superimpose the design on site.

‘BIM to site and back again.’ We can now relay setting out information from our developed 3D models to robotic total stations in the field. This allows us to precisely set out all elements from the model, then load any alterations due to site variations back in the model to produce an “As Built” model.
