From the President
Dear Members,
by Scott Howry, President, Board of Governors
Acting in my capacity as secretary of the corporation, SOCC Inc. I oversaw the counting of the ballots for the 2022 election. I was assisted with the count by member, Peter Warmerdam. This report is to provide the Membership with the official results of the election on February 27, 2022. As per the SOCC bylaws, we used procedures to confirm that only votes from equity members were counted. The total number of equity members eligible to vote was 468. This means that 235 votes are required to achieve a quorum. A total of 302 votes were cast. Under Proposal A, the following individu- als received the highest number of votes and were elected to the Board: Mike Anderson / Jim Varner / Kyle Wigley The Addendum Poll regarding the Board's plan for renovations to the Bunkers on the Oaks course in 2022 received 237 responses, with the following results: Yes 193 No 44
• West Nine renovation of greens and bunkers • New Tee Line for driving range • 3 New filtered ice/water stations on the golf course • Oak Room Renovation • Banquet Room Renovation • Locker Room Renovation • Pro Shop Renovation • New Restroom on West Nine (almost complete) I thought I would take this opportunity in my first message as Board President to briefly summarize some of the highlights of our Annual Meeting this past Sunday, for the benefit of those members who were not able to attend. In addition to providing a financial report, the Board highlighted some of the accomplishments we have made over the past couple of years. While we are not yet where the club needs it to be, the financial report showed that appreciable progress has been made fiscally, and that the club is in a substantially better financial position than it was at the beginning of last year. This is good news for sure, but it is tempered by the fact that there is still important work to be done to further strengthen our financial position both on an operating cash flow basis, and on our capital reserve position. Below are a few of the accomplishments that were highlighted at Sunday’s meeting:
Sincerely, Paul Miller Secretary, SOCC Inc.

(From the President, continued)
• Replaced Kitchen Equipment in the Mixed Grille • Two New Pickle Ball Courts • Replaced the Club’s entire computer system • Replaced nonworking Camera System • Improved food & beverage and established a very popular Basque Night each Sunday • Improved Overall Membership by over 50 new members While this is a list of significant improvements that the Board is proud of, there are a myriad of other projects that need to be completed going forward. Seven Oaks Country Club is over 30 years old, and facilities depreciate and need to be replaced and/or repaired over time. This year we are working on a 10-year plan that will assess the Club’s assets useful life so that we can, as a Club, be proactively prepared for those expenses before they materialize in the future. As part of this process, we will be sending out a survey in the near future to get feedback from the membership to assist the Board with its decision making and to help prioritize projects. The plan will identify projects that may be best characterized as necessities, and others that may be more aptly described as aspirational in nature. The Board also gave a report on Sunday on the solar project, which is in the planning phase as I write this. Much thought was given to the ascetics of this project, and the Board is very pleased with the fiscal savings on power that this project will accrue to the Membership going forward. I hope this summary gives you all more information about the Club’s recent history and where we are going. I am looking forward to this next year with optimism and I hope to see you all often around the Club, enjoying everything it has to offer!

Seven Oaks Book Club The Seven Oaks Book Club meets each month to discuss books on a reading list which is selected by mutual consent of the Book Club members. All members of SOCC are invited to attend. Our selection for March is… The Violin Consiracy by Brendan Slocumb In this riveting page-turner, Ray McMillian is a Black classical musician on the rise - until a shocking theft sends him on a desperate quest to recover his lostfamily heirloom violin on the eve of the most prestigious musical competition in the world. This “galvanizing blend of thriller, coming-of-age drama, and probing portrait of racism … will do for classical mssic what The Queen's Gambit did for chess” (Booklist). Our next meeting is Thursday, March 24th at 4pm Please email Bee Barmann at [email protected] to receive information on joining the meeting.
Manager's Message
by Enrique Contreras, General Manager/COO
I would like to thank all of the members that ran for the Board of Governors, in the recent election. Please join me in congratulating our newest members to the Board of Governors: Mr. Mike Anderson, Mr. Jim Varner and Mr. Kyle Wigley. I would also like to congratulate Mr. Scott Howry for being nominated as the new SOCC Board President. Thank you to our Past President, Mike Burton for a great year and your service to the Club and Dianna Prather, Ryan Newman and Jeremy Brehmer for their service on the Board of Governors and to the membership over the last 3 years. We are very happy to be able to bring events back to the Club! Friday Night Live still proves to be a popular event and we will be continuing with various entertainers throughout the year. Events for March include, Heitz Cellar/Brendel Wines Wine Dinner on Friday, March 4th, Ladies ‘Mad Hatter’ Luncheon & Fashion Show on March 16th and Cigar Night on March 24th, featuring a fantastic 3-course dinner, Rocky Patel cigars and scotch tasting with Johnny Walker. We hope you will join us. We are also in the final planning
stages for some great golf and family events that are coming in April – check your Weekly Update email on Thursdays for more information over the next few weeks. One of our main goals at Seven Oaks, is to provide exceptional service to our members and anticipate their needs. If you would like to see something new or different on the menu, let us know. Beginning in April, we will also be implementing monthly recipes into the newsletter, created by Chef Jorge, for you to enjoy on your own and to share with friends and family, if you wish.
Thank you for your continued support and loyalty and I look forward to seeing you at the Club!

Links News
by Tom Lipscomb, Director of Agronomy
After many months of hard work (and a little prayer), we are pleased to announce the reopening of the Main Chipping Area and the West Nine Course!
Main Chipping Area The area will be open for full usage, starting Tuesday, March 1st. Please refrain from continuing to use the Lakes and Oaks practice greens for chipping practice. West Nine A ‘soft opening’ of the West Nine will begin on Tuesday, March 15th. This ‘soft opening’ means that until about mid-April, the West Nine will be open for play on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays only.
With the reopening of the West Nine, we ask that you please keep the following items in mind:
• Be aware that the greens on the West Nine are extremely young and tender and cannot be mowed to the same height as the greens on the Original 18; this means that their speeds will be a little slower. Our #1 goal is to nurse these young greens through the heat of the summer so that after our heavy aeration in fall, we will be able to mow them to the same height as the Original Course. We ask that you please help us take care of them by fixing ball marks - those that you make, and/or those that you happen to see unrepaired. • As you may know, we have experienced many obstacles in the regrowth of the #8 green. To prevent any further delay in the reopening of the West Nine, we will have a temporary green in play on this hole until further notice. If you overshoot the temporary green and your ball lands on the #8 green, please carefully remove your ball, drop it on the approach, at nearest point of relief, and finish the hole. DO NOT PLAY ANY SHOTS OFF OF THE #8 GREEN !!!
• Remember to enter and exit the bunkers at their lowest point.
We appreciate your patience during the construction project and we hope that you all will be very happy with the outcome of the work.

Senior Sessions are on Thursdays and our Junior Sessions are on Saturdays, now through early April. See the Full Schedule on page 8. We are continuing the Wednesday and Thursday afternoon Junior Golf Sessions, beginning at 3:45pm each day. As we’re all excited to have the WEST/ISLAND 9 reopen in the middle of March (and the 3rd Short- Game Green too), we still have a high demand for daily play on the Original 18. You can make Starting Times two weeks in-advance by calling the Golf Shop (661) 664-6474. Please inform the Golf Shop of all the Players in your Group upon checking-in, plus cancel any Starting Times you’re not able to make as we have a daily list of other Members looking to get out and play when we get openings on the Tee Sheet. We are doing our best to always accommodate Members looking to get onto the golf course even if we have a full Tee Sheet.
Let the March Madness begin! We have quite the list of Demo Day/Fitting Experiences at the Club in March: an ‘Elite
Eight’ of them. Custom Fitting Appointments can be reserved directly in the Golf Shop plus online via certain Golf Manufacturer’s Fitting Day Links! We had an impressive turnout with 104 Players competing in our February 13th Super Bowl Tournamentearlierthismonth. Congratulations, toall theGrossandNetWinnersplustoallwhoparticipated! We have two new SOCC Golf Cart Agreement Lease Options now available for those of you who play a lot of golf and use our SOCC Cart Fleet. Inquire with the Golf Shop regarding those two Agreements.
