Northen Surveying Services is seeking to appoint an Associate Director (Cost Management) to lead the growth of its cost management service offering. Established in 2009, Northen Surveying Services is a Bristol based Quantity Surveying Practice with a national client base and an industry leading offer in bills of quantity production, risk management and dispute avoidance. Having developed an enviable track record and client base in our existing specialist services we are now seeking to appoint an ambitious Associate Director to further expand and diversify the business by leading the growth of our cost management offering. Working closely with the Founding Directors, the Associate Director will play a key role in the management and growth of the business, with a remit to design and implement business development and client relationship management strategies for our cost management offering. It is anticipated that the Associate Director will grow their responsibility for business management over time, with a view to becoming a Regional or Managing Director over the longer term. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to lead to the cost management function within an aspirational business with the chance to progress to a Board Director role on merit in a relatively short timeframe.

Established in 2009, Northen Surveying Services is a Chartered Quantity Surveying Practice. Regulated by the RICS, the company has successfully completed a wide range of projects for a number of clients in London and across the South West of England in recent years. NSS is based within a converted barn in the village of Latteridge, in North Bristol, which is ideally located with access to London and the South West by the M4, and Midlands via the M5. We now have a team of five Quantity Surveyors supported by part-time team covering Business Admin, HR, Marketing and Accounts. We adopt a rigorous approach to detail and set high standards. In addition to fundraising and pro-bono work for construction charities, NSS choose to work for selected local community projects for free or a nominal fee as part of its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility commitment. These schemes also provide a training opportunity for team members working towards RICS professional qualifications. And we’re proud to be currently supporting Gympanzees in such a capacity as they develop a project to open and run the country’s first, fully inclusive leisure centre in the Bristol area to cater for the play exercise and social needs of the 58,000 children and young people, from 0-25 years old, with disabilities living in the area. We set sustainable standards for running the business by limiting our environmental impact and minimising our use of resources, recycling, and also supporting local businesses in the supply chain. NSS is focused on maintaining and measuring its Environmental Management System, which has achieved ISO14001, the International Environmental Management Standard.

The Role

The Associate Director will play a key role in the management and growth of the business, with a remit to design and implement business development and client relationship management strategy for the NSS cost management offering. Job Purpose To develop and grow a new business stream, delivering a full scope of cost management services to clients. Training and development of new and existing team members to support NSS service offering and team member attainment of RICS APC. Reporting to: Managing Director Key Responsibilities: 1. New business development 2. Customer relationship management 3. Work planning 4. Development & Training 5. Fee earning. Delivery of cost management services to clients

Principal Tasks and Accountabilities

1. Cost Management Business Development • Develop with the director’s new business stream • Set own targets to achieve the directors turnover and expenditure objectives • Full liaison with the Business Development Director to ensure integration with business operations 2. Work Planning • Maintain a schedule of leads and live projects, with target task periods • Maintain a rolling work plan detailing work in progress • Work with the MD to allocate resources for tasks • Ensuring Management reporting information is kept up to date via Management Information Systems, such as workflowmax 3. Client Relationship Management (CRM) • Develop, secure, and maintain Client leads and introductions to the business • Liaising with the MD to ensure maximisation of opportunities • Update IMS with significant client issues • Promoting the company 4. Cost Management

• Estimating and budgeting • Earned value management

• Change management • Resource management • Risk management • Quality control • Schedule control 5. Development & Training • Support the development and training of team members • Make development & training recommendations to managing QS/Directors

The Person

We are seeking an individual who is looking to progress their career in an entrepreneurial role where they can play an influential role in the growth and strategic direction of the business. You will have demonstrable experience as an MRICS Chartered Quantity Surveyor in a consultant cost management role at Senior QS and/or Associate level, with experience of providing cost management services to clients through the pre and post contract stages of project. To be a success in the role you will enjoy and have a track record business development and client relationship management, and will be able to devise and execute plans for growing our cost management offer. The role would suit and individual who has positive, can-do attitude, with an entrepreneurial and enthusiastic approach to growing a business.
